When you finally have ME3 on your hands, install it to the hard drive before starting it up. (If it's two disks, install both disks.)

I know many of you plan to do that already, but those who don't, you very much should. Make no mistake: ME3 is going to be a big game, and running it straight off the disk may not be a good idea especially if you're going to be playing it for hours on end. By installing the game to your HDD you will save yourself the trouble of having to deal with potential annoyances such as extended loading times, occasional cutscene lag, and even sudden disk read errors. More importantly, your 360 will be much more comfortable running the game for hours thanks to the disk not spinning (which, in turn, contributes to minimizing the chances of potential failure on both the console's end and the game disk's end).

Once again, I am probably playing Captain Obvious here, but I also realize that there are some of you who may not exactly be fully aware of just how much trouble HDD installation can save you, so this is more directed at them. It's also a friendly reminder for those who do know that. Assuming ME3 comes in two disks, you'll need anywhere between 13 to 15 GB of free HDD space to install it, since the average disk size is about 6.8 GB for AAA games these days.

That is all. Happy hunting!

I usually do some push-ups and then go make myself a cup of tea or coffee. It's done by the time I'm finished.

I've actually never done this.

First game I tried, was NCAA 11 on my old 360 and the field was brown. (glitch or whatever but it was every game I played). So I deleted it off the hard drive and just played disk. I had asumed copying to HDD wasn't the best idea.

I completed mass effect 2 about 5 times before I realised I could install it on the hard drive. I ran through another couple of times and noticed a difference. Unfortunately my xbox (god rest its soul) died shortly after. Farewell old friend, adieu.....

This would be an exception rather than a rule. I have heard that some games don't take HDD installation kindly but these do appear to be a rarity.

But for this, I will.

It definitely made ME2 run much smoother, especially during the Suicide mission. Much less stuttering.

I only rarely do this.   Considering I have 80gb of Hard drive space available I really should do more :P

I tried this once for another game, I didn't notice a difference so haven't bothered since. Maybe I just have the paitence for loading times. I only notice the loading time on ME2 during my 3rd playthrough.

Wonderful advice. I've noticed a big difference with every game.

Interesting that some don't, though. Wonder what's up with that.

I normally do not eat junk food, but seeing how del taco is one of the few things open at midnight, I will eat my meal while the disk is installing

It's too bad the PS3 doesn't have this option. I got ME2 for that as well, and I couldn't stand how out-of-sync the audio and video would get.

The X360 version really spoiled me.

You can't install ME2 on the PS3? Really? Man, that kind of sucks. You can do so with a good number of PS3 games, as my library can attest to. Certainly not all of them though, yeah.

Funny enough, this is the first thing I do with most of my Xbox games. It's kind of like the install on PC; a soothing ten minutes of anticipation.

Only part of it, I think, if you have the disc.  Considering there's two DVD discs-worth of content plus most of the DLC packed onto it, after all.

Although now that I think of it, there IS a digital version for PS3.  12 gigs, if I recall correctly.  And it STILL gets out of sync pretty often.

Thanks for the PSA, Fiery Phoenix. I've made it a point to do this since getting my own XBox, and it definitely makes a noticeable, positive difference.

Every time I get a new game, that's what I do immediately. I spend the waiting time going over the manuals.

It unfortunately backfired with Skyrim when it made all my graphics crappy.

I always do this with every game. It is rather helpful. I do have one question though, does anyone know how many discs ME3 is going to take?

When there are manuals, in any case.
