Well I certainly have enough space, but the downloading time.... D:>

I usually do some push-ups and then go make myself a cup of tea or coffee. It's done by the time I'm finished.

I usually sit in my pj's eating a pack of donut's whilst I wait,  way to make me feel bad  :P

I do this for all of main games, hate waiting but my xbox doesnt make a sound if I do. :wizard:

Yeah, the noise from the disk drive can be unsettling at times. Best to be safe and eliminate it.

I can't play any disced game without installing it first. The noise from the disc drive is annoying the hell out of me, if I don't install it.
I have to say, the HDD install option is the best thing that happened to Xbox360, ever. No noise from the disc drive, (usually) faster loading times, the consoles don't overheat as much, wich means they don't RRoD as much, disc drives also get a boost in life expectancy, game discs are much safer while in your console (if you accidentaly bump in to your console while the game is running), etc...
So yeah, installing a game before playing it, is pretty much obligatory for me.

I had never installed a game until Red Dead Redemption overloaded my console and caused the good ole RROD.  Thereafter, I downloaded to harddrive and it hasn't failed since. With that said, I noticed the odd graphical/pixel problems in RDR after installing .  Generally, I've learned installing equals better performance, but I don't get the impression this is the case on all games. We'll wait and hear the verdict as for ME3.

It's not always the case, no. Some games get hampered in performance, if installed. Halo 3 muliplayer maps take longer to load, if ur game is instaled for instance. There have also been issues with running Skyrim from your HDD, but htey have patched most of it, last I checked. And I'm sure there are more games that have install issues, but considering how minor these issues usually are vs. all the other benefits you get from installing game, I think install wins hands down.

Good advice. I'm one of the people OP was playing Captain Obvious to. But it's definitely the way to go. It really is RROD's kryptonite.

Yeah I plan on too.

Not really the place to ask, but does anyone know if there is a texture problem when you do this with ME2?

It's good advice which I do for all my games. Having the slim 360 with LOTS of memory comes in handy to be sure.

Some advice to those with 20g hard drives, if I may...

If ME3 is anything like ME2, then the Normandy itself is disc neutral. Meaning that no matter where you are in the game, if you're on the Normandy, you can play it on either disc.

So I'd recommend saving before you go into the galaxy map before the prompt to switch discs. Then you can uninstall one disc, install another, and continue the way you were going to. It saves you a couple of minutes and it breaks immersion less.

It's something I do, anyway.

The Slim definitely made life much easier with its huge HDD. I probably wouldn't have bothered upgrading to 250 GB if I hadn't decided to buy a Slim. Now I can install my games as I please without worrying much about free disk space. It almost feels like a PC.

Can I install the game on a USB stick? I can't afford a 120gb/250gb HDD.

If so, how big would this game be, will I be OK with an 8gb USB stick or should I go for a 16gb one?

Question already answered HERE.

In short, yes, you can. But it's not without some cost.

Hey, since I've been ignoring the forums, anyone know if keeping the stupid disc in and swapping them is still going to be required even though you installed them to the HDD this time around?

I always do an install when I get a new game, far easier on my 360 that way. It also makes it so I don't have to listen to that fan blow loudly as I play.

I don't think we've heard anything definitive either way, Pacifien. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance after all the help your old posts have been this past year or so as I've combed through the archives.

I do this with all games, there is a big difference when you install

with some games AKA fallout it actually clear up alot of the bugs that would happen.

it also doesn't make your console sound like a jet taking off.

RPGS are console killers so this thread is the best advise to look after your console

We don't know yet, though you can take an educated guess and presume the swapping will still be required given what happened with ME2. I'd prefer not, but we'll see...

Thanks! I'd only use it to install this game.

What do you mean some cost? USB drives aren't that expensive, certainly a damn sight cheaper than buying an official HDD!

I have had my xbox since they first came out 2006 was it? I believe at that time you could only get 20 gb hd but im not 100 percent sure. And because of that all my ME 1 saves are on that hd. I barely have 8 gigs left. I wish i could install. But i fear i dont have the room

But then you'd miss all the awesomeness of popping the disc in, limping your injured self back to the chair, settling in with a cat on your lap, and then having to get up again to change it.  <_<

I just meant they're not quite as fast as the HDD, and the 360 will ALWAYS use 16 GB as the maximum amount of space regardless of how large your USB drive is. So if you install ME3 (assuming it's two disks) to a 16 GB USB drive, it will take up close to 90% of the total available space.

When you finally have ME3 on your hands, install it to the hard drive before starting it up. (If it's two disks, install both disks.)

I know many of you plan to do that already, but those who don't, you very much should. Make no mistake: ME3 is going to be a big game, and running it straight off the disk may not be a good idea especially if you're going to be playing it for hours on end. By installing the game to your HDD you will save yourself the trouble of having to deal with potential annoyances such as extended loading times, occasional cutscene lag, and even sudden disk read errors. More importantly, your 360 will be much more comfortable running the game for hours thanks to the disk not spinning (which, in turn, contributes to minimizing the chances of potential failure on both the console's end and the game disk's end).

Once again, I am probably playing Captain Obvious here, but I also realize that there are some of you who may not exactly be fully aware of just how much trouble HDD installation can save you, so this is more directed at them. It's also a friendly reminder for those who do know that. Assuming ME3 comes in two disks, you'll need anywhere between 13 to 15 GB of free HDD space to install it, since the average disk size is about 6.8 GB for AAA games these days.

That is all. Happy hunting!

I was thinking on doing this for all my 360 games specially ME1 and 2. I have the slim 360 so it came with 200+GB so space is not an issue.  I was wondering though are there any downsides to this? and do i still have to put the CD in?
Edit: also does anything happen to my DLC? or is that all handled through Xbox live?
