I'd have thought this would already have come up, but searches of the forums reveal nothing.

Does anyone know if the toolset (and mods for that matter) will work with the downloadable version of Dragon Age: Origins such as the Direct-2-Drive or Steam copies?

Any offical word about this?

Why on earth shouldn't it work?

And, yes....mods should work fine with all versions...

Part of what he might be thinking has to do with at least one other D2D product.  The D2D version of Oblivion doesn't work with some advanced mods, such as the Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE), because the D2D license didn't allow for hacking the code of the game. I ran into this myself, i.e., OBSE not working, and called D2D about it, and the support guy didn't know himself so he went and got a definitive answer.  I think and hope this is a different situation.

Because both D2D and Steam have had some rather notorious problems with toolsets and player mods because of their files being encrypted. Filkertom mentioned Oblivion which is a great example. Both D2D and Steam have different methods of installing the game files which differ from the retail copy. So that's why I ask. Would be nice to know if it will have any effect on the Toolset as it has on other games.

Fortunately companies like Valve actually have a strong desire for their customers to be happy and want to actually *gasp* do the right thing. When things like OBSE didn't work w/ Steam, Valve actually went and wrote their own version to make it compatible. Shocked most of the community that they'd release an official version of a player created mod just to make all the mods that used it work.

I have a lot of trust in BioWare, and Valve, and while I'm sure if there was a problem with player made content working w/ the Steam version it would eventually be fixed, I'm curious if it'll work right "out of the box."

Same here. I bought from D2D cause they had both sets of DLC content but if I'm not going to be able to use the toolset then I've wasted my Money, becasue I'm going to have to go out and Purchase a second copy of it.

Read the D2D Dragon Age FAQ it says right there "This version of Dragon Age: Origins is compatible with universal patches and the mod toolset from BioWare." I am pretty sure you wont have any problems. I know when I got Oblivion I had some issues with mods but this you should have no real issues or problems at all.

I'm having a slit issue just getting the toolset to install. because Steam has a custom install path for it's games, the toolset keeps saying I don't have DA:O installed then shuts down. I found a wiki site that said to edit a certain SQL file, but I don't have that anywhere in my install at all. Has anyone gotten it to work or is it just me?

--edit--

weird, I tried it for a 4th time and it finally worked...
