My gripe with those who kill in the SM intentionally

I honestly don't understand how it's a stretch. I do kind of agree that it requires Shepard to be a bit of a ****** to get people killed except maybe at the end...

Cheez do you often refer to people as your babies? Are you old enough for that?
I coddle my friends, pets, and family members, too. I can get really, really obnoxious about it sometimes.

It's either I get the sunshine and rainbows or I make Shepard look like an incompetent idiot.
... and I really hate sunshine and rainbows.

I've killed off some of my favourite squaddies simply because that particular Shep has made a bad choice or a mistake, and said squaddie is paying the price for it.
The depth of variables and potential role playing opportunities, and being able to mould a particular Shep's personality, has me still playing this game even 18 Sheps later. The ability to let certain characters die helps facilitate that IMHO.

Yes, mother...
Wait, this is weird.
And I can't kill anyone, at least not in my serious playthroughs, I get too emotionally attached and I WANT TO A BIG DAMN HERO DAMMIT.

Point taken.
Not sure whether to be thankful or slightly unnerved. Where is an elcor when I need one..
On-topic:
I don't kill off people, makes me feel incompetent and is a potential waste of resources in ME3.

Besides, sometimes picking the incompetent path is funny.
Miranda: For the fire-team leader, we need someone who can command loyalty through experience.
Shepard: Jack, I pick you.

I don't like intentionally going around, doing stuff for every squadmate, just because I have a checklist that guarantees whether or not they're loyal enough to survive. That's just heavy metagaming, and I stopped enjoying that after the second or third playthrough.
Screw having everyone survive; it's much more satisfying for me to roleplay each Shepard a certain way, only completing sidequests/loyalty missions that my Shepard would feel obligated to complete, ignoring upgrades that seem too costly or too time-consuming to implement (I'd imagine that having Silaris armor and the Thanix cannon installed on the Normandy would take up lots of precious time, for example), not always assigning the best squadmate for mission objectives, etc... for me, playing that way makes each decision feel more impactful, and more enjoyable than keeping track of which story variables I've fulfilled and trying to predict how the SM will play out.
Plus, I want to see how the story diverges as a result of dead characters. I love Mass Effect, but I'd get bored with it real quick if I never changed things up.
