sad thing is that a few loyalty missions are really cool. why game devs, writers & voice actors r so awkward when it comes to romances in video games is beyond me but they sure as hell are

I've done every romance in the series so far including kelly. Liara's is one of the best. Her refusal to let Shepard go is incredible. She pits her faith in Cerberus to see her lover alive and then she has the restraint to stay away long enough to finish her revenge on the Shadow Broker. Liara is one phenomenal lady.

I found Liara's unwillingness to let Shep go kinda disturbing actually, especially if you didn't romance her.

But eh, to each their own perspective.

VS is only the "worst romance" in the game if you dislike some emotions & drama. Easy going romances are nice, but not the stuff people are looking for. Actually, BW tried to make different romances:
Liara's is quite easy and lacks any drama & issues since Liara is devoted to Shepard.
Tali is really cute and fits perfectly the "first love / teenager love" trope. Sweet stuff.
Garrus is a non-physical romance between comrades in arms.
Miranda appears to be a vixen that's difficult to attract but once you got her attention, every outcome is possible: One-night stand to lifelong love.
Jack's romance appears to be the punk love that either can stay "punk" or get fixed to a really romantic love.
Kaidan & Ashley's love are quite similar in the way the female partner does the first steps while the male part is less active. In both cases it's the love of equals and their emotions get loaded by deep love but also deep drama.
Any LI I didn't mention yet: they don't feel similar.

So in short: every romance fits a specific taste. There's no "worst" romance.

Liara is probably my favorite.  The Garrus romance is probably my second favorite. I like the Ashley, Miranda, Tali, Jack and Kelly romances as well.  Even Jacob isn't that bad.  I pretty much hate Thane as a character, but even that Romance isn't anywhere near as bad as Kaidan.

I always interpreted the Garrus romance as Shepard looking for a 'friends with benefits' arrangement, and ending up actually falling for Garrus, just because he turns out to be sweet, cute and caring.  Ashley and Shepard have tones of common ground to build on, especially if you chose the Sole Survivor or Torfan backgrounds, and I can easily picture Colonist or Earthborn Shepard enthralled by Ashley's stories about family.  Miranda is a fairly compelling character in a lot of ways, once she opens up after her loyalty mission.  Tali is someone who's been there with Shepard almost from the start.  Jack, I think, makes the most sense for an Earthborn Shepard, though I could also see a colonist Shepard finding something meaningful in the relationship.  Shared pain and shared healing.  Kelly is a cheerful little fling with no strings.  Jacob is just a decent guy.  No real damage, no huge issues.  Kind of a rock of stability.  The Thane relationship, much as I hate Thane, even makes sense as two people who've lost everything finding comfort and solice together.

The Kaidan relationship though... Ugh.  I've done a Kaidan Romance play through exactly once, and it was the only time I've ever saved Kaidan on Virmire, because the character always strikes me as a spineless, wishy washy weasle of epic proportions.  He's pathologically incapable of committing to anything.

I think her romance was really good - maybe the best in the series. The Lotsb content is leagues ahead of the other romances, in my opinion. It had tons of good lines and it was nicely woven into the story. Jennifer Hale and Ali Hillis have a great chemistry too (I haven't played Maleshep/Liara yet).

worst romance? Jacob (horrible sex scene, the build-up was not bad) or Kaiden (just wooden)

Kaidan's romance>Liara's romance imo. Liara's is better than Jacob's but Jacob's isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

The great thing about the Garrus romance is that it's left up to the imagination. Therefore it is both physical and non-phsyical. The most players see is a headbump.

Tali's is right behind that, but she does sneak in a passionate kiss. However if people disagree with the two having sex, for any number of valid reasons, they can continue to perceive the scene as just that kiss (plus however many followed).

Same goes for Jack's romance.

Jacob's is relatively explicit, as are Miranda's, Thane's, Ashley's, Kaiden's, and Liara's.

Ever notice how most romance depicted in books, movies, and TV are either A) lusty or awkward? It's because it's probably very hard to craft a convincing romance between characters. I can count on my hands the number of convincing romances I've seen in fiction (a good example is from the His Dark Materials series). It takes significantly lead up with good dialog, subtlety, and chemistry to pull it off, which is something a lot of people are either incapable of producing or too lazy to try.

At least Jacob romance made me laugh.


Also after Suicide Mission, Jacob actually has romance best lines to Shepard.

Which is weird after that awful romance.


While Liara is just plaint bad.

At least I laughed at some Shepard's lines and in LotSB it was pretty good.

Flirting with Kaiden was pretty dull and uninspired, in my opinion (Liara's ME1 romance wasn't great, but I think LotSb redeemed her)

Exactly. I just see the headbump - which works great for both, if you like. I pretend Shepard and Garrus didn't go any further since we don't know if Turians have similar organs for reproduction. Or do it the same way. ^^

Yeah, but here my interpretation says that Shepard and Tali came close enough to a "reproduction deed" - at least on Quarian standards. Lifting the mask for a kiss? Heavy risk. I'm sure Tali also got rid of her "gloves" too - so she can touch Shepard with her own hands. Besides that? I doubt she stripped down to fully nakedness. And therefore they didn't do the deed.

Actually, only Ash, Kaidan & Liara's scenes are explicit. They did it, there's even a post-sex dialogue included hinting they all wanted more.
Miranda & Jacob showed some skin but besides that, it could also end with the foreplay. So it's up to you if they did it - or not. In my case I believe Miranda did the deed and Jacob doesn't look like a man that refuses a good .. err ... errrr ... fuuu ... nevermind

I appreciate the reality that not everyone read the leaks. If people want to pretend nothing happened beyond just having a friendly chat, that's fine, but the same "argument" can be made for the rest of the squadmates. And it will still be just as much of a stretch.

I remember there was a thread asking whether FemShep actually had sex with Garrus and Thane in their respective scenes. Was rather amusing.

I'm sorry but Jacob has the worst romance ever. and Liara's is probably ranked among the best with LotSB. That's right I said it. Deal with it.
