Hi guys! I'm sorry if this question has already been addressed or answered, but one of the videoes on the Mass Effect site got me curious.

Personally one thing I've always loved about Mass Effect is that I'm not tied down to being completely good or completely evil. From day one my main Shepard has always done whatever she pleased, responding to a situation however she liked and I've never once felt penalised by Bioware for it. In Mass Effect 1 and 2 she had high rankings in both Paragon and Renegade and I felt a certain satisfaction that I'd opened up a variety of conversation options to use as I saw fit.

However, in the weapons trailer I noticed that on the skill set tree screen for Shepard the paragon and renegade meter seemed to have been merged into one. Does this mean they're taking a more Dragon Age style approach where paragon actions drain renegade points and vice versa? As I'm not sure I'm terribly keen. Of course, I've seen a different skill set tree floating around on the internet which seems to have the two as two seperate entites still. For anybody wondering, these are what I'm talking about:

So does anybody have any idea which of these is accurate? Or if they've changed the system yet? If so, thanks in advance for answering. :)

Renegade/Paragon points don't detract from the other points - their cumulative for Charm/Intimidate options.

Yes, I know. :) But what I'm asking - Or trying to ask in a ham-fisted way perhaps, is if the single paragon and renegade bar means that instead of both bars filling up side by side depending on how you play, will performing a paragon action take away renegade points and will performing a renegade action take away paragon points? Or do they all still accumulate in that single bar, and it's possible to fill it (roughly) half full with one and half full of the other without having anything taken away?

So what I guess I'm trying to say is, if I act like a renegade action early in the game but I'm a straight paragon all the way through the rest of it, will those early renegade points *always* be there like they were in the first two games? :)

I saw that single bar too and had a similar question. I wonder if the 2 branches is the same mathematically (like you're 50% P and 28% R so the diff is X and that means Y amount of dialog options are available for the conversation) and so maybe the new single bar was chosen as more of an interface aesthetic reason. I'm not sure what I just typed made sense.
I never got how P and R options were tallied. I played a neutral Shep one go-around and got R responses when I could've sworn I would've gotten nothing. Anyone know.
