eh, I like him. just not as much as some others since Jacob by himself doesn't stand out enough.

I guess he's annoying to Femsheps who ain't sexual predators + dislike cheesy porn lines, as well as Mansheps who ain't too crazy about peeps with upstanding morals.

I don't hate him but I don't like him either.
He's okay in my books, but he is a bit useless in combat and boring.

I don't really see that much "hate" for Jacob, more apathy. In my opinion, there were just so many other characters in ME2 with more interesting stories (seriously, his loyalty mission was as dull as everything else about him, easily my least favorite of them all), deeper backgrounds and, well.. alien, he just never got a chance to stand out.

This.

I have yet to see someone HATE him, but I've seen plenty of people who don't care either way about him.

I'm one of those people.

Wrong. There's definitely hate for Jacob. There's numerous threads on Bioware with people hating him. A few of them had some very weird - latently racist - criticisms, but the others were mostly critiques of his character and how it was written.

This hate thread isn't that bad though: Here.

With his passive ability, and barrier he's pretty good. Also, with the Geth plasma cannon, he's a much stronger character.

I find it hard to hate a character when I basically know so little about him. Other than that I think he's actually a pretty nice guy (maybe not as a character)...

Well ok he wins "the priiizzeeeee" for the cheesiest romance dialogue. And something that my brother mentioned that I never realize previously... If you google Jacob Taylor, the first autofill cookie thing result isn't Jacob Taylor Mass Effect but Jacob Taylor Lautner (LOL!). Doesn't help that our dear Jacob also likes to show off his abs -_-

I just wayyyy prefer Kaidan hands down as LI, while Garrus and Thane have more interesting stories than him. Poor Jacob, I hope they fleshed out his character more in ME3.

It only turned into hate for me as opposed to apathy as others said when he was responsible for sizing up every squad mate I brought along. I loved in ME1 the whole crew meeting but I get it if bioware didnt wanna do it. It makes sense to have Miranda there due to her keeping tabs for TIM. But why my Shepard was forced to take crap from Jacob and watch him size up all the squad mates and I could never tell him off. Plus he is just so dang boring

If Jacob was female then she'd be popular even if she had a dead attitude. Being male human is hard work in ME.

Hey, now, I like Liara.

But my femshep could have a conversation with Liara without sounding like she was in heat. I felt I had to hose her down after going to the weapons room. And Jacob was always like, "Yo, bro, I'm not up for this talking thing" with my male shepard. So...I just never talked to him. And then he's all like, "My dad, he's not dead." and I'm like, "...I don't care."

Interesting take. I found the same thing about Jacob. If I had a Femshep, he was all cool and actually got to know him. Male Shep and I wasn't caring at all about him and wanted to punch him in the face. It was like Bioware only wrote for him to be interesting for a LI and since they didn't do the same sex thing, Jacob was one-dimensional and boring when playing a male Shep. Then he was just trying to be a pimp for the Femshep after seeing him in the Male playthrough first.

But he was still a step up from Kaidan. Kaidan only survived one playthough and it was my first. I couldn't stop Ash from killing Wrex so she had to go. But every playthough after that I knew what needed to be done to save Wrex so Kaidan died because he was basically Carth with a little less personality.

I made a playthrough to try his romance, and I have to say, my view of him changed a bit. I realised that the problem with his romance wasn't him - it was Shepard's lines. They're terrible. And the way she delivers them is so... Disappointing. I mean, Jennifer Hale is awesome, but I wonder what the hell the voice director told her to do in this particular case. Because man, it's terrible from all sides.

Except Jacob's. I think his response to the romantic interest feels natural, and right. But his character was, in fact, too uninteresting. His loyalty mission should have been something related to his past in the Alliance. Maybe they could have thrown in Anderson or Hackett, chosen a more interesting setting, like some place in the Solar System...

Instead we got a strange castaway story with little relation to anything, and daddy issues that come out of nowhere and are barely mentioned again by Jacob himself.

He had potential. But they made some really poor choices, and wasted a chance to make a great male human character.
