So, I have a huge technical issue with this game and I've been directed here to resolve it. Let me begin with some information about the hardware. I currently use an 60GB first generation Playstation 3 latest firmware update, bought Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition (all DLCs and Awakening included) brand new.

Throughout the entire game I've been experiencing frame rate issues, missing spoken dialogue, and lock ups. I've dealt with these, putting up with them because I wanted to play the game through. Frame rate issues I expect, there is a lot of content and a lot going on at once. Missing spoken dialogue is a downer, but manageable. Lock ups can be dealt with by saving more often. I normally got the lock ups when picking up treasure from fallen enemies or opening treasure chests.

I got fed up on Saturday when it went from bad to hell on Earth. I began the quests leading up to and the beginning of the Landsmeet. I spent about three hours Saturday morning doing this when I decided to save. The sace screen came up but the picture was black and there was no time/save data under the picture. It looked odd so I exited the menu and same back... same thing so I paid it no mind, hit save and it loaded my last save. The save screen had become the Load screen.  In frustration I began again losing three hours of gameplay and began to play catch up. I figured I would just power through the rest of the game (since there was just the Landsmeet and the Final Onslaught to contend with) and be done.

So, I kept playing and oddly enough my PC went from level 19... to level 20... and then 21. Odd as I believed there was a level cap on Dragon Age:Origins. I figured maybe it was a miracle and I got some extra talents... but kept playing. Finished the Landsmeet, and began the Final Onsluaght and what do I see... DWARVES! I picked Golems... I damn well made SURE to pick Golems. Gritting my teeth I told myself it was simply an aesthetic issue and played on. Keep in mind this is getting on 11p.m., now... I get to the outside of Redcliff where you begin slaying hoardes of Darkspawn and I go to grab treasure from a downed Spawn and the game locks up.

I'll spare you the two paragraphs of frustration I had and ask for assistance.

In all honesty, I've been directed here by EA. I took my frustration to EA who over the span of a week insulted my lost time and money then directed me here. I am not sure what kind of technical advice any of you can give me for what seems like one of the glitchiest games I've ever seen. To sum we my Save Screen turned in a Load screen, the Load Screen was still the Load screen-- so I had (or have) no way to save once I begin playing. The game locks up constantly... which becomes an issue if I cannot save.
So, how do I fix this?

On the PS3, there's only one thing we can really say.

Delete your game data, not saves, and reinstall. Maybe it's messed up. I've yet to have any trouble with DAO save for a few minor lockups (less than 1 every several months.) But I have the PS3 slim. I wonder if the ram is a factor here.

The PS3 isn't a Win/Mac. We can't really do much tinkering.

How exactly do I accomplish this?

On your PS3 on that games tab, go to Game Data and delete the one that's DAO. It should be a few gigs. Not the Save Data "folder" but Game Data. Think its near the top.

To delete: hover over the file and hit triangle. Then hit delete.

Thank-you, I'll give that a shot tomorrow. If I screw it up and delete my save data you'll hear me... my cursing this game will be loud enough for the entire globe to hear.

Just don't go in the PS3 save game folder, and you'll be fine. The Save is the one right above Trophies I think. The Data one is all the way at the top or around it. ;)

So, I deleted the Game Data, reinstalled it... life seemed ok. I tried to load my game and it claims that I cannot load it because the DLCs are not available. The DLCs are included ON the disc!

It even somehow had the AutoSave of just before it locked up which meant I could have recovered those 10 lost hours.  Now I've lost all my saves, which is a total of 68 hours...

Did you install the DLC? Did you log into your DA account? Are you connected to the net? Simple stuff, but that's how the DLC gets a "Okay. You're good." Probably something silly like that as many have reinstalled it, including me, without trouble save for the time I forgot to reinstall all the DLC...

The DLCs are included on the disc though, what installation need they go through?
When I started the game I did not need to install them, nor did I need to create a DA account. I never created a DA account. I still was able to take advantage of all the DLCs such as getting Shael through the Stone one, Warden keep, Liliana's Song, etc.
Why would this have changed by reinstalling the Game Data?

Do you have the ultimate edition? If so, there are two discs on the one disc. The one below DAO is the DLC. Each has to be manually installed. That's the only version that has it all on one disc. Now, if you've downloaded it, that's another matter entirely.

How you didn't have I can't say. Maybe someone else did it. Maybe you just don't remember. Maybe something clicked and DAO downloaded and installed it al from teh bioware store by itself. I really don't know. The UE has it on the disc as a separate partition. It's a bunch of files you have to run. That's all I know.

*shrugs*

I do, indeed, own the Ultimate Edition (explained in the original post as requested by this form's rules). When I first began, like I said, nothing needed to be installed... I clicked on New Game and off I went. I had access to all DLC areas and content, no download/installation/sign up... nothing. It just worked. Are you saying somehow that a possibly glitchy load of the Game Data made the DLCs available for use when they should have otherwise not been without some sort of download/install/sign up?
No one else in my home plays this game, much less uses the PS3. It's my wife and my one year old daughter, and they are not home when I am not home I guarentee it.

I think this is just bad design on EA/BioWare and I am not impressed by their response to all of this. I do thank-you IceHawk7 for your incredible help though, you've been a real gem through this and your time is much appreciated in helping me. Enjoy your days.

I have no idea why you didn't need to install it all. Got lucky I guess. Installing it all takes time and is a pain since there is no "One click and install all."

No problemo.

I came here after having 5 crashes in one afternoon. I don't know what kind of magic you're using. I'm resorting to saving my game after every single battle because I never know if the next one will lock up my PS3.
