We basically can't win. It's the same logic that constantly, constantly b*tches about women being sexualized despite someone's best efforts to depict a character reasonably for everyone. (Though that is a totally different can of worms.)

Anyway! Yay Femshep! *waves more sparklers*

lmao are you serious with this false dichotomy bull****? yeah, that sort of thing does happen in real life, and as someone who's quite girly myself, it sucks bigtime.

but no one is saying this about new!fshep. she actually has a TON of makeup on, not just a little. if i wore it to work i would be told to wash it off. if anyone in our current-day militaries wore it they would be told similar.

no one is patronizing her or calling her weak because she dares to wear makeup. that is all in your heads.

edit: the difference between you and i deciding to wear ultraheavy makeup and fshep wearing it is that we are real women who decided it for ourselves.

f!shep is a creation, designed by men (in this case) to be sexy.

Disclaimer before anyone reads this post: I love FemShep, and I regularly play as FemShep. I even voted for the general look they ended up going with. (Only blonde, not red) I am also really stoked at how much attention FemShep's been getting in advertising for ME3, and thrilled to no end there's a trailer featuring her.

But, I can't honestly say I like her look. I've tried, and tried, and tried...but I can't make myself like it. From the minute I first saw the full face reveal, I was disappointed. I watched the trailer again several times, but it's just not jiving. I know BioWare is always open to constructive criticism, so I'm going to give it. There are three main issues I want to address:

1) Her face proportionality is off...I think I can even pinpoint it. It's very wide, and she's got very severe features including a heavy-set jaw, very high and prominent cheekbones, and just a bulky facial structure in general. Then you add a delicate little nose, cute lips, and huge eyes, and it makes it look pretty unnatural. I know BioWare has tried very hard to make a FemShep that looks realistic for us, but I don't think they did that very well. She doesn't look real at all to me...not like any actual person I've ever seen. It's almost as if they tried too hard to combine a strong look with a feminine look, and it's not working.

2) I don't think she looks that much like the original FemShep art we chose to be her default appearance. In the art, her facial features are more delicate and proportionally correct: she looks real, like that face could be the face of a real person. The in-game result doesn't seem to have that same effect. The facial structure is more bulky, and her eyes, nose, and mouth don't work together as nicely as they do in the art piece.

3) At 0:43-0:44 in the trailer, she looks like she's got a bad botox job. The area around her lips is puffy and her lips don't move as fluidly as Sheploo's or even my CC-created femShep. I don't know if that's an early animation thing or what, but it jumped out at me the first time I saw it.

Overall, pleased with the trailer in general. I wish we could have seen her more with the other characters and had better face shots of everyone, but the concept is good. Can't wait to play ME3!!!

Yeah, I got pretty much exactly the same vibe.  At the end of the day they delivered a femshep trailer, which was awesome of Bioware.  But yeah, this particular femshep looks really wierd.  But they were never going to make everyone happy with her look; we all have different canon sheps.  I (like most people, I think) never expected this Shepard to replace my canon (Aenea Shepard is the real Shepard as far as I'm concerned).

Yup, that's what the ignorant see.

Wait, there seems to be a pattern forming here.

But there is a balance, one of my femsheps has feminine hair but slightly grey to give that mature seasoned look, I've kept some of her scars with some renengade actions, I refuse to use the dermal regenerator, those scars are a reminder of her struggle, she has makeup but minimum, it's good to maintain a little pride in your appearance.

I like her look, except for ****ty lipstick. Armor and body proportions look great and I hope the hair and the eyes are available for custom sheps. I still get a feeling that something is wrong with facial animations or the faces in ME3. I never noticed something like that in the previous game and never really focused on it. They seem so cold and lifeless.

I love how Sheploo is still in the trailer. He's in the background in the couple seconds you see Miranda XD

:? This is the assumption that I'm girly myself. I find makeup annoying and horribly awkward to put on. So perhaps I'm at a disadvantage to see when someone's wearing too much?

Maybe I've just been seeing a little too much of people violently swinging back and forth on how females are depicted that it kind of just spilled out then. It's been buzzing around my head for days now.

Sorry for angering you.

The trailer is epic, and finally seeing Miranda, Legion, Samara and Jacob is incredible.

However, that femShep looks strange for me. Oh well, my femSheps are custom anyway.

Great job Bioware. Excellent trailer and the look of default femshep is really really good.

So basically, unless YOU like the default Shepard it's a disappointment? 'Us' mean the other tiny minority. All two of you.

Seriously what did you expect? There is no design that would please everyone. A femshep without makeup, looks plain, or too young/old... looks too butch... etc. Nothing would satisfy the naysayers. They want perfection.

@Ashira; i was speaking hypothetically. if we decide to wear makeup, it is our own decision.

and you didn't anger me; i'm just irritated with every other post insinuating that i and the many others who find shepard's makeup much too heavy are somehow objectifying or demeaning women when really we are doing the opposite.

I don't think ademska would be as livid if the makeup was toned down a bit, makeup, especially when heavily applied can have a pretty dramatic effect on the whole face.

so, broski, where exactly did you see that last one?

considering i'm the most vocal person in this thread right now, i assume you're talking about me.

i also assume you can't or won't read, since i've stated a few times now that all my sheps wear makeup, as do i personally. i don't have a problem with makeup, i have a problem with this much makeup.

AND NO, real soldiers are not allowed to wear as much makeup as shep is here. makeup is permitted within strict, natural guidelines, and this exceeds them; ask any irl soldier. shepard is a spectre and is not required to conform to those standards, of course, but it still looks ridiculous and is ridiculously time-consuming.

i want shep to be hot, but she doesn't look hot here, she just looks like a cartoon. she looks like she stepped out of bioshock: infinite.

that is a problem.

OMG, you know this is a video game right? set in the future? if you dont want her to wear so much makeup then dont put it on her. you have already stated that you loathe her to the very fabric of your being so it pretty safe to assume your gonna create your own. yay problem solved.

what??? wait, what do you mean this is a videogame? what's a videogame?? i honestly have no idea!! :wizard:

i don't have the option of not putting it on her, dingus, because bioware made her. i am not talking about creating a custom fshep, i am talking about the default appearance rendered to help create an identity for fshep in the same way sheploo has for mshep. i cannot change anything about her awful face, thus i am complaining.

i understand i can custom my own shep, and obviously in the past i have. but i've always greatly enjoyed bioware's defaults, like sheploo and also garrett and marian hawke, because they always look unique for vg protagonists, and i like for the aesthetic of my character to match the rest of the game. sheploo and dragon age 2's defaults were given the same attention that npcs were (compare sheploo to custom low-res mshep, or hawke), and i enjoy the game more when everyone is cohesive.

some people genuinely enjoy playing defaults, guys, and this child-like doll is a huge disappointment for us.

this. look: http://imgur.com/PvL...ArK,MwxuP,CQJps

and dont call me names. you can mock my speech but have enough respect for me as well as yourself or the mods may ban you. but again since you know its a video game then you should know this as well.
