Yeah, rpg is the norm while action=no dialogue options and story=low difficulty (but the fact that you can skip cutscenes and change the difficulty at any time renders these other two rather obsolete).
You have to press a button to skip cutscenes, and action mode sets it so does that for you. Unless it's different than in the first two games, you can't skip an ENTIRE cutscene, you have to repeatedly press the button to flip through, and it stops everytime you hit a dialogue option.

Why would anyone choose anything other than roleplaying mode?
Yes, it hurts my feelings. This does seem to be a pretty pointless feature though when you can just go for rpg mode and skip cutscenes.
Because it disgusts me.
It's just a videogame. Get over it.
But I thought it was all real
It isn't real!? Pre-order canelled! How dare BioWare make a fictional universe instead of making the Reaper Invasion actually happen!!

They are basically a way to screw up ME in the eyes of many players. Bad options to spend resources on IMO.
It doesn't 'screw up' anything for anybody, and I can't imagine it cost a signficant amount of resources to put in. It basically just does something automatically that had to be done manually before.

No it doesn't. It's just an off switch of the rpg features. They still fully focus on the rpg feature of the game you like with out having to comprimies rpg feature because this mode exsists.CannonLars wrote...

The way the game is made affects me. This feature reflects aspects of the mindset being used to develop ME3.

You know, you could always lower the difficulty. It was still an option in ME1 and 2, it just was in the pause menu.

How? You do realise that not everyone wants to deal with dialoge trees in their game. How is more options a bad thing?CannonLars wrote...

Be more open minded. This allows more people to paly the game. You get the action rpg you want, they get the game they want.CannonLars wrote...

I would elaborate and say (again) that this feature is designed to AVOID compromises to your game. It is designed so that YOU get what you want and Bioware gets what they want (a larger audience; whether it works remains to be seen).

Not to mention that they're not spending months on implementing a feature that's pretty much an autoplay, so those resources probably weren't wasted as much as some people think.

We'll see. I predict we'll get bored of people coming on the board to complain about lack of dialogue options because they didn't realise what Action mode implied.

This is BSN - three quarters of what goes on here is people complaining about something. You probably won't even notice.

I am picking story mode. it has less action in it. because i want to. because the story, choices and dialoge mean more to me. because i dont want to have to sit there and be scared and have to try over and over again to develop a strategy to get through a level. because the new combat system is harder (smarter, cooridinate with each other, etc). so i am going with strory mode for now. maybe on my 50th playthrough (or sooner) i will pick rpg or action, it just depends on how much time i have.Wulfram wrote...

It's amazing how many RPG fans think that everyone hates the genre.
I didn't say that. But if you don't have a predisposition towards RPG or Action, then RPG mode doesn't sound as exciting.
But Action sounds cool. Why would you pick a mode with less action in it?

Lots of newcomers to Mass Effect are going to get confused over this, and pick stupid choices like "Action". Then they'll come and rage at these forums.
I sure do hope this is not included in the final game.
Why have you got a problem with this? Why? I'm actually confused.
Action: For people who want to kill some bad guys.
Story: For people who want to watch an epic interactive movie/film with some easier
combat.
Role Playing: For people who want both challenging combat
and engaging interactive story.
You know what. I enjoyed all the daft conversations about complaining about Ashley and Miranda's outfits for reasons of immersion. I enjoyed all the whining about the wait for Female Shepard's trailer. I enjoyed the threads moaning about Kaidan (or Kaiden however you choose to spell his name). But wouldn't it be nice to complain about something more, well productive (for want of a better word).
Such as how combat can be improved.
How elements of a story can be improved.
Characterisation.
The big things that actually make a big difference to the game.
Complaing about the game modes seems pointless to me.

story mode is supposed to have the easiest combat. they could not take out all the fighting for technical reasons, but it is supposed to be shorter and very easy. i would jsut make sure when you pick story you also pick easy mode just to make sure. we will find out in the demo.RinpocheSchnozberry wrote...
I'm torn between RPG mode with Easy combat and Story mode. Does anyone know if Story mode's combat is easier than RPG mode with Easy combat, or are they essentially the same thing?

I agree, but it will not affect the reviews etc.? Because I think that in the'' Action'' mode, the game will not show 100% on what she can ...
