I'm stunned at these facial animations I'm seeing in the demo and not in a good way

While the facial models look better than ever, the animations seem to be the worst in the series.  There's very little if no emotion in any of the animations and it seems at times that the lip syncing is off.  I'm using Femshep and I'm wondering if Sheploo is better because this is very bad.  I'm aware that the animations can't be at Uncharted levels due to technical issues but there has to be some sort of inbetween as this falls way short.

Can you give some examples?

There can't be an in between because Mass Effect has realistic facial models, Uncharted is slightly exaggerated. And by doing so, Naughty Dog managed to avoid the uncanny valley while making faces obviously human (and pretty damn similar in many cases to the character's VA) without making things look awkward and managing to get realistic facial movements.

The more human it looks, the static and unemotive it looks.

There is some shockingly bad footage, indeed. But I have also seen the exact different. These jumps are especially noticeable in the VA-reveal.

I think it's just early footage you have seen. Don't worry.

The lip synching has always been off, in both games. Not all the time, but it's had it's share of obscene moments.

I hope to god Sheploo can smile correctly in ME3.

Pretty much most of the stuff on the first level. The kid in the vent has no facial emotions despite being scared, Femshep and Anderson(at times) in the hallway going to the meeting, the meeting itself. It's like a bad dub is the best way I can describe it.

I'm aware of the difference between the two franchises but I just used Uncharted as it's the golden standard.  As I said, it doesn't need to be as good and it really can't.  It just needs to better than what this is.  It's full-on uncanny valley.

I just played ME2 and it didn't seem anywhere near this bad.  It's possible because of the higher rez facial models the animations are just appearing worse.  Regardless, something in future games from Bioware needs to do something about this.

He's playing the early-access demo that was just released, it's the same one that we're supposed to get on the 14th.

There is no early access demo just released. There is only one existing leak, that has been confirmed not to be that what they will show us.

...or have I missed some leak again?

EDIT: nevamind.

As for OP; are they truly that bad? Because BW promised a revamp when it comes to facial animation. This makes me a sad panda. :/

I noticed at the end of the FemShep vid that FemShep is carrying a big gun with the intent to use it on some Reaper I expect, but looked incredibly calm about it, not a snarl, not a frown, nothing. It gives me a small sad.

I have noticed "dead faces" in the preview footage. I thought that was still work in progress because I could not imagine that they would take a step back at something the series was promoting from the start.

As I said, I'm just kinda stunned. It really looks to be the worst of the series. Maybe it's just generic Femshep has issues with the facial animations but even the NPCs are on the poor side. I knew going in after looking at some of the videos that it wasn't going to be great but man.

That's because it's combat footage, it's not an ingame scene.

I will reserve judgement for the final game. Since the demo is basically the same build they've been showing for months, I don't see why anyone would assume that it is final code.

It's been put out to try and sell the game.  If it's significantly worse than the actual product, such that I cannot form judgements on it, it shouldn't have been released.

It's a public demo, not a Beta.

It's very unlikely that something as big as facial animation will be that much better in the final game.

Anyone here who has played Dragon Age Origins and is complaining about the way faces look in Mass Effect 3 I am confused.

Most facial animation systems look bad until you adjust to them.
