I'm stunned at these facial animations I'm seeing in the demo and not in a good way

Seriously? Some wonky facial animations do not make a bad product and demos are made on old builds all the time because working with the final build would leave them almost no time to get it out there.

No, no, no. I've clearly been told that this isn't how things work. Which is really confusing for me, because I thought it was.

Yeah, and why release a demo that is a months old build?

Maybe BioWare wants people to think they're product is bad? Oh wait...that would be stupid.

I was speaking about old builds in general actually. You don't use an inferior version to sell your product a few weeks from release. People keep making that excuse.

I remember all those times when ME1 and ME2 were showered with accolades for Animations. People compared it to LA Noire . . .

Oh yeah, that didn't happen.

Bioware is great for dialogue heavy RPGs, I've never seen them as a monster of animation. I see the uncanny valley effect and the UV oily skin that shines under light to look plastic on my monitor. That won't bother me one bit either.

I will still enjoy this game, like I enjoyed the last two. You can be critical and not indignant.

It may be something that changes on a case by case basis. Some games are of course going to be under more pressure during the final crunch than others.

Because demos need to be certed in advance on the platforms they inhabit, your demo will always be older than your final game product.  It may not be Octobery old, but its not February new either.

Dunno if I'd call it an excuse. I simply said that I was going to wait until the game game out before passing judgement on that, and was repeatedly told I wasn't allowed to.

They really don't have an option. Like I said, they simply don't have the time to make a demo from the final build.

Demos are nearly always 95% representative of final builds. Never played one significantly different from the released game.

This is a good way of putting it. The issue isn't whether they would want to show the newest build, but whether time and workload would allow them to. It happens all the time.

From my experience this is the case. I know people want to be optimistic about what they're seeing but more often than not what you see is what you get.

This. A good example is the DA2 demo, everyone (well some people) were saying there would be changes. Cut to release everything is the same except for a single line Cassandra gives.

If people were talking about a specific bug, or an ability that needed it's balance tweaked, I'd buy that it's likely to be fixed in the main game.

I'm not going to buy that they would have released a demo with unpolished facial animations. And if they did, and didn't tell people doing that, they would be idiots.

People always hold up Heavy Rain as one of the worst emaples of uncanny valley and I just don't see it. Maybe it's because the facial features in HR are so detailed that even slight inperfections seemingly break the imersion but i've never experienced this and I would to this day put Heavy Rain way up their with L.A. Noire and Uncharted. Am I wrong in this?

Heavy Rain facial details are so good to me that imo you would only notice imperfections in facial movements during video and therefore uncanny valley wouldn't be evident in stills.

Yeah, they might not be the greatest, but I don't really care at this point. If they include more content, story, and gameplay at the expense of some facial animations not up to par.. I'll still be happy with the end product.

I'll wait for the demo to decide for myself, but if they really are bad, then that's a deal breaker for me and I'll just wait for a price drop.

People say that about Heavy Rain because in screen shots, they do look wonky, while in game they look normal. I can think of a few in heavy rain that stood out as weird, but not as many as in ME2. There were allot of derp faces in ME2. Miranda was probably the worst offender.

Nope, I've been told there is a thing wrong with the game that will have no impact on my enjoyment of it. So I'm definately going to have to cancel one of my pre-orders.

He's just pouting. When you bring up to many counter points, the BDF shuts down and spits that out.

This narrative is getting really old. You do realize that Bioware stated the reason they delayed the demo was so that they could have the most polished experience? Not that I'm complaining about the animations, I didn't find any problems with them, but the fact that you guys would blindly defend against any criticism with weak excuses. But please, continue.

That's definitely what it seems like to me. I've never understood the fascination with defending or even disliking something with such determination.

That should read BDF not BSN.

LOL. Skipping the game due to facial animation issues. Amazing.

Jeff... surely you can't be amazed by how silly some BSNers are by now?

Someone already has pointed out in this very topic but I find it funny how people are spitting feathers about this considering that the previous games weren't exactly absolutely the best ever facial animations.

Case in point...

Let's harken back to ME2's Voicecast video where it showed a scene of Miranda talking whilst also showing Yvonne Strahovski saying the same lines inter-cut amongst each other. RL you can see Yvonne's facial animations on her brow, in the game, Miranda's brow doesn't move an inch like the RL counterparts did.

To them that gonna cancel the game over this... [/url] is all I got to say to you
