I've been wanting to do a playthrought with Loghain as a compaion, but I want to still make Alistair king. The only way you can do this is to harden him and have him marry Anora. I read that you can Harden him at the end of his quest by picking the diolgue option ""Everyone is out for themselves", but he still will not start the start the conversation in camp to harden him! His approval is nearly maxed out and everything! Does anyone know a work around for this? This bug is getting rather annoying...

Step One is to fins out the truth (aka who his father is): I have always had him in may party at Redcliff ans he tells me, not sure if there is another way, I assume it would come up when you revive the arl.
Step Two is to give him the pendant that you found in Redcliff Castle (in the Arl's Study), he would ahve told you about it at the start of the game even at low rating.
Step Three is to go to his sister.

Step 4 you'd get the dialog option to harden him thereafter ("Everyone is out for themselves ...")
Step 5 initiate the follow up dialog with him again -> Any response EXCEPT "That's not what I meant. Don't do that!" will harden him.(you don't need to be in the camp, can be done right after leaving the house)

Yes, I'm that juvenile xD. The others have already explained it perfectly. You need to click on him, though. He won't initiate this hardening conversation on his own like other ones in camp. Others than that, I don't know either. :/
