Its high time us Mass Effect 2 fans get the real truth on why the entire Mass Effect 2 squad outside of garrus and Tali are getting a cameo treatment in ME 3 .

I also would like to know how did Garrus and Tali escapet this fate

Garrus is obviously because "meh, we brought him along this far" and Tali is because of fan service.

Bioware doesn't owe you anything.

I'm kind of tired of this additude around here.

Are you so sure Tali isn't getting a cameo?

What needs to be explained?

It makes sense to have a smaller squad and it makes sense that not everyone will have the same "screen time"  or roles (I don't know what else to call it) as certain characters.

And I grow tired of this elitist attitude from the fanboys. The OP is simply inquiring as to why the squad is getting the cameo treatment. While it's quite obvious, what right do you have to tell him he can't ask that question? Get off your high horse.

Because there are waaaay too many characters in ME2 to give them ALL the level of character development they deserve. They could have picked only a few to have as permanent squadmates but that would have angered the fanbase of those characters which didn't get picked.

And plus ME3 isn't about the characters anymore - ME2 relied on these characters for storytelling (it'd be a dull game without those loyalty missions) as the plot in it was non-existent. Also, if you think about it, you only recruited those characters for a single mission (i.e. the Suicide Mission) and they've served their purpose.

I'm pretty sure I remeber bioware saying Tali was fanservice. Originally she was meant to have a smaller role, but they decided that the fan out cry would be too big.

I wouldn't mind some official explanation. Right now they're just acting like ME2 was a 30 hour side quest. I think that's much worse than the OP's inflated sense of self entitlement.

The official explanation is coming soon. It's called Mass Effect 3.

You make a really, really good point in my opinion. The whole purpose of recruiting them was to stop the Collectors. Mission accomplished so now you need a different set of allies. I used to be upset but after reading this, the only thing that still upsets me is the L.I.'s not being squad mates.

I have been asking myself this for months now. I would love Bioware to give the TRUE answer, but really admitting its blatant service to Garrus and Tali fans is the only answer there is that fits, as annoying of an answer as that is. I'm a Garrus fan, I love Garrus. As much as I also was desperate for a ton of Miranda in ME3, a wish that looks guaranteed to be left unsatisfied (except in future DLC maybe), I think I would have gona absolutely bats**t crazy if I found out Garrus wasn't gonna be at my side for nearly the whole game. Garrus is like my Shep's brother for life, not having him would have been so bad I swear I would have actually considered boycotting the game. I really do enjoy Tali, so I am glad about her as well. I'm not excited about Ashley being on my squad at all, though I have heard somethings about her situation in the game that may make my hatred of her more tolerable. It does suck having her over Miranda or some of the cool ME2 guys like Mordin, Legion, and Thane.

Because none of the ME2 squadmates were supposed to be back but since Garrus and Tali were the most popular ones (not to mention they were in ME1) they decided to bring 'em back. The rest didn't come back because Bioware wanted a fresh new squad for ME3.

SIMPLE.

Handwaving and contrivance. I sure am glad I got the CE.
