So, is Beattie back as Mordin or not?
No. He isn't. /sigh of defeat
The guy handling his character now is pretty decent at it. He doesn't quite have the mannerisms down pat though, at least not from what glimpses we got.
There's never been an explanation for it, no. As I've said before, I don't presume that we'll ever hear about it until the dust has settled some time after ME3 and someone feels like being open about it.
To a lot of people it's a tiny speck on the radar, and, well, anyone who knows me on BSN knows that I don't complain often, I really don't. I love both ME1 and ME2 and while I have a few issues with them (nothing's perfect) I don't make a habit of focusing on them so much. But losing a prominent VA hits pretty close to home for me because it's a field I'm interested in pursuing and Beattie's performance blew me away in ME2.

My only major concern was the lack of options with dialogue, it was auto response after auto response.
Yeah, if it follows through like that for much of the game a lot of people are going to be really... really... pissed off.

Yeah, I timed the recharge speed of an Adept's Warp in one of the demo vids last night:JeffZero wrote...

Bah, I wish they'd let you customize your weapon loadout for the second part of the demo. Four weapons really cranks up power recharge times.
Yeah, that would have been nice. The cooldowns basically turn the understandably-harder part of the demo into something that few of us will be silly enough to make so consciously difficult. Kind of makes it artificial, really. I doubt "Insanity is so insane in ME3!" will hold up as much once the cooldowns are tempered back down to normal because the players have the option of removing half their load.
- On Earth with just a pistol, it takes 2.5 seconds for Warp to recharge on an Adept
- On Sur'Kesh with 4 weapons, it takes 16 seconds for Warp to recharge on an Adept
One interesting thing I noticed in this new demo was a few unique differences in dialogue compared to the previous leaked beta, which I'm suspecting is based on whether or not your Shepard has been imported:
During the Shepard/Anderson talk on the way to the Committee, in the leaked beta Anderson is talking about very specific events that Shepard has done in the past (talking to and destroying Sovereign, discovering the Reapers intent to harvest humans through the Collectors, destroying the Alpha Relay), whereas in this new demo Anderson's discussion of Shepard's past actions are all very generalize and vague ("We've seen your reports...", "The sh*t you've done...", etc).

It sounded close to Beattie, like the best one so far. I don't think its Beattie though, but its deffinatly doesn't stick out as bad, which is all that counts.

Anyway, yeah, I noticed that bit about different dialogue too. Looking forward to hearing the more specific issues once I import. All that journalism buzz talk about how the game adapts so much if you're a new player wasn't off the mark.

Not all that counts. Not to me. But it goes a long way, yes.

I played Infiltrator on Hardcore, mainly using the shotgun, and I didn't find it all that terribly difficult once I got used to the game's controls.

I enjoyed ME2's start, because it continued where ME1 ended. You were scanning for Geth activity, when out of nothing you die. You wake up in a Cerberus base and... I think we all know what happens... My point is, that you, as a player, know what happened and why.JeffZero wrote...

I just played it and overall, I got a positive review.
The combat really is improved and not just hiding behind cover anymore, I really LOVE the new skill-system, the facial animation is great, graphics are clearly improved (especially lightning), and conversations seem to be more than a pattern of straight animations like they were before.
Only negative input is the kind of rushed introduction, the (so it seems) nerfed conversation-choices, and some awkward running animations.
Re: rushed introductions, that's kind of something I take issue to with ME2 as well. But like I said earlier, either in this thread or another, the majority of fans seem to be pretty adamant about complaining if there's 'too much exposition', so folks like us have to deal with it. Ah well, it's a pretty intro and it definitely gets its point across to us.
In ME3, you are on earth, you are at the Alliance, on a trial... I thought ME2 ended with a rouge Cerberus ship. Now between those 2 events, there is a huge lack of information that Shepard has, but the player doesn't.
I would have expected that you return, land on earth with your Cerberus ship. Not that you have a new Normandy, your crew is who knows where and you are on some trial.

...did you never play Arrival?
EDIT: OK, in rereading your statement it's clear that you probably did. I do see your point, but I don't think it's quite as disparate as you're making it out to be, nor was ME2's opening quite as form-fitting. ME1 ends with Shepard rushing off to find a way to stop the Reapers and then you find out he's been assigned to geth-stomping for a month.

Out of combat it was all over the place. In combat it seemed locked for the most part. There really shouldn't be a FPS drop in a cutscene Bioware.

The gameplay is fun, Insanity is challenging now, not just cheap (well the grenades will feel cheap at first, until you get to grips with the new cover mechanics)It took a few minutes to get used to the new cover mechanics but when I got the hang of it it was good, if a little clunky when trying to retreat. The soundtrack is looking like it's gonna' be awesome too.
