The ol' Batarian Hegemony needs to go down a peg or two,
But i find it hard to hate Batarians outright when the smearing of them throughout the games is so transparant. It doesn't stand to reason that every race in the game gets a balanced story whilst all Batarians are just born with evil in their hearts!

It's kind of funny how people are forgetting the Reapers here.
Yeah, was about to say that. But I don't think the poster ment them to be included.

Allow me to justify my answer. I totally get the Jews/Arabs allegory that they are seemingly going for between them and the humans. Be that as it may, the Batarians are jerks. I mean, the unabated invasion of human colonies by slavers; the attempt to drop a meteor on a human colony; the attempt by a Batarian AMBASSADOR to assassinate the Citadel Council; and the general disregard for the life of any non-Batarians.
The game has never established any animosity on the human side apart from acceptable retaliation to wrongs already committed on them by the Batarians. I mean, at the end of "Arrival", Admiral Hackett is anything but thrilled by the fate of that Batarian-occupied system. Hackett is known to make off-the-record remarks to Shepard, but never does he seem happy to have eradicated so many Batarians. The tensions between the humans and the Batarians are extremely lop-sided (I won't say one-sided, even though I want to).
How many pleasant, level-headed Batarians have we met throughout the Mass Effect universe? None! There is always an exception to every rule, so I won't say that there isn't at least one sensible Batarian out there. However, since we've never seen them, can we really say they exist?

valid points.
Aria's bodyguard seems cool enough.
There was also a side mission at the end of which you keep to your word to a batarian, who seems pleasently surprised.. This may be more important than you think.
