Probably because she can wear it into battle as well.

Just making an observation that any person combat trained seems to wear cloths with weapon slots, unless it's military style BDUs or dress uniforms. like the kind C-Sec/Colonists wear.

Actually, now that I think about it. The ME universe has a very distinct lack of varying style. Everyone is extremely uniform.

I like her new look, mixes the relaxed/civilian with military and just gives her a fresh look outside of armor. Of course it could have been handled in a number of different ways in how to make her look, but I'm content with them fleshing out Ash when she isn't in "military-mode".

Besides, she wears armor whenever you take her out of the ship. Its not her all day everyday look.
