yes I remember...after all I've played the game over 40 times...But still...I just don't see her wearing stuff like this...make up and such...it just does not seem like her.

I never quite understood this argument against Ashley having her hair in anything but a bun. Some people seem to think that people who are in the military look like they are in the military, 100% of the time. The reality isn't quite like that.

Ashley had her hair in a bun in Mass Effect 1 because she was an Alliance Marine on deployment with the SSV Normandy. Her hair was in a bun because that was probably the regulation for female Marines when in uniform, just as it is with females serving in the US Marines. When Ashley was assigned to Eden Prime and she had liberty (days off from work), she would have no doubt have been going out in the town in regular civilian clothing and with her hair down. We just don't see her like that in Mass Effect 1, because we always see her in an 'on duty' context.

It's not the hair alone I'm talking about...it's the entire Bioware attitude of "she needs moar sexy" ...there was nothing wrong with her in the first place...

LOOKIE HERE.

Around the 7:15 mark or so.

They fixed the white bits of her outfit, her face textures, added to the facial animation, and I can say that whoever still had doubts and concerns about Ashley looking all herpderpderp from the beta leak can rest easy now.

WOOHOO.

This looks fantastic.  The tweaks to her face, in particular her jawline and eyes make her look more like the old Ash again.  Kudos, Bioware!  I also appreciate that her darker skin tone is evident and I'm so glad they changed those white pants.  haha

in fact yes. She had the same armor, same hairstyle, same everything after 2 years. Kaidan didn't have the same thing (phoenix armor on the normandy, brown armor on horizon) so Ashley gets a completely new look after looking exactly the same for 3 years. about time she changed clothes.

Also by the way anyone saying 'oh it's not a big deal', it's a HUGE deal. I'm amazed that anyone could ever actually defend this.

Unless the game shoves her ass into your face like Miranda in ME2, then no, it's not a huge deal.

Yeah and I see no reason to believe, given how lovingly sculpted it is and how much emphasis they put on it, and factoring in their track record that they wouldn't do just that.

That said I'm over it, the redesign is good as is her new armor. Bioware have finally remembered how to make a female character sexy without robbing her of dignity. So I'm ready to forgive Bioware for doing it, not quite ready to forget about it though.

You're taking this a little too seriously.

I am disappointed in the way BioWare described her change was the need to make her sexy, but the truth is this a common occurence with characters in trilogies.  They change their appearance to show time progression and give people something new to look at, it just happens one of their focal points for the new look was "sex appeal".

Military-esque look on women is fine and all but it doesn't always scream sexy to everyone so they decided to take her in a new direction and give her a more relaxed and womanly look.  There isn't anything wrong with that and the no nonsense soldier Ashley is still there, she just tried on a new uniform for the sake of showing change.

bravo Bioware, Just Bravo. Ive not had a single ill thing to say about ME3. Ive always had complete and total faith in the quality of the product your guys are turning out. The hard work Casey and the rest of the team have done to please us, the fans, should be commended by us all.

The way some of you use such demeaning terms for Ashley is just unbelievable. I look at her in the demo and I see NOTHING provocative or overly sexy about her at all. How people can calling her ****ty or a prostitute or whatever is completely beyond me. Shes covered head to toe with a VERY slight bit of her chest showing. Hanging out on the BSN just further proves to me that a staggering amount of people were raised in a puritan manner. I really cannot fathom how else they could say Ashley's look is overly sexed up otherwise.

But anyway, I digress. Again, AMAZING job to all the guys working on ME3. It might not mean much coming from me, just one of the many millions of fans you have globally, but I am honored to have experienced this series and proud of everything you have achieved.

Some americans and other cultures can get pretty sensitive with sexuality. Violence is mostly ok, no problems with gore put rated-m and it's fine. But erotism? That's a BIG issue. Remember Fox News? OMG, BLUE ALIEN SIDEBOOB!!!1!1!! SEX BOX IS TEH DEVIL!!!!!!

Again thx Capitan Literal...I very much doubt anyones Shepard changes after 3 years....so I don't see this as a very strong argument. btw...Kaiden has the same hair too, the Phoenix armor didn't even make any sense for him second of all. Liara's face looks exactly the same...guess we should complain how shes still the same after 3 years.

Eh my Shep doesn't care as long as she knows when to suit up.

She wants to dress up that's her business. As long as he doesn't have to get an accidental butt shot (hi there Miranda). He doesn't care.

Liara changed lipstick. Guess she could've gone with neon facepaint like that Eclipse leader or something....wouldn't suit an information broker though.

Except...heres a shocker..."sexy" is not a set definiton...everyone perseives "sexy" differently. I for one am totaly turned off by what is considered and defined as "sexy". What Ashley looked like before hand is what I consider "sexy"  Aveline Vallen is what I consider "sexy". I even find Jack "sexy" even though I don't like her all that much. Unfortunetly we live in a world where it's assumed everyone thinks "sexy" means the EXACT SAME THING for everyone. Thats something I have to live and deal with...I understand that...that does not, however...mean I have to like it. As such I don't very much appriciate all the flames I'm receiveing ( in varying degress I admit) about this issue. I have a different opinion...and I am not raving like some nutcase and screaming "SHE LOOKS LIKE A F***ING S***!" No...I am simply disgusted by the design choice...

No, not really.

The controversy surrounding the nudity in Mass Effect 1 was entirely limited to a segment on a talk show on Fox News. It didn't register as even a blip on the radar for the vast majority of Americans. And the loudest voices complaining about that news segment was from American gamers and fans of Mass Effect.

Her lips in LotSB were a shade of dark blue. That might be the natural color of her lips, rather than lipstick.

I think you missed my point, I said Military-esque ME1 was attractive to some but not the majority. I'm not discounting her look in ME1 as ugly, I'm just saying there was a movement for a new look for her and I'm sure that at one point they will give Ash a skin with her old look.

It sucks you are dissatisfied with her new look but there are more than just superficial reasons why it was changed. I hope you at least acknowledge that.

my ex girlfriend is a marine and she has her hair in a bun, but when she is off duty she wears skirts dress's makeup the whole works. Though when she comes back on duty she puts her hair in a bun and shows her military side, but when off duty she sorta throws her military style and acting out of the window. So why can't ashley do the same, when she isn't on duty she wears make up and wears skirts and dress's if she wants

The only part of Ash's new look I wholeheatedly like is the new armor.

Ironic, since I'm 90% certain that wasn't originally on the agenda, but thrown together after the initial outcry of her new outfit.

The hair looks good.  I don't deny that.  But it's pretty inappropriate to wear that way in combat.  I somehow doubt we'll get a "tied back" look for her to go wit hthe armor.  I'll just have to hope it magically stays out of her face while she's spraying a corridor down with an assault rifle.

The "uniform" is eye-bleedingly bad.  eriously.  Ash is an Alliance officer, shouldn't she be wearing an Alliance uniform?  Or at least a close appriximation?  How about a version of Shepard's casual outfit.  You know, since they're both Commanders?

But no, she needs "style".  Her uniform needs more aweseome buttons.  Or something.

::sigh::  at least they made her pants blue instead of the original white.  It makes it "less bad" I guess.

So your saying that "movement for a new look" had nothing to do with superficial reasons?

I do understand whatever the reason was...I still think that "movement" simply reinforces what I said above however...and as I said...I don't have to like it.

Because people ague ME1 Ashley didn't really mention the civilian/girly side to the player and I'm guessing people assumed tomboy meant she would look similar to how she is on duty.  I think its unfortunate BW didn't expand on her off-duty side more earlier so people wouldn't have the misconception but with ME3 showing it I suppose its better late than never.

it depends on how short a girl's hair is, there are a lot of women in the military that don't have their hair in a bun, as long as it is slightly above shoulder-length or shorter, they don't have to wear their hair in a bun when in uniform

Right. IIRC their hair could not naturally extend past the collar on their uniform. Anything longer had to be pinned up. (in a bun)
