my ex girlfriend is a marine and she has her hair in a bun, but when she is off duty she wears skirts dress's makeup the whole works. Though when she comes back on duty she puts her hair in a bun and shows her military side, but when off duty she sorta throws her military style and acting out of the window. So why can't ashley do the same, when she isn't on duty she wears make up and wears skirts and dress's if she wants
it depends on how short a girl's hair is, there are a lot of women in the military that don't have their hair in a bun, as long as it is slightly above shoulder-length or shorter, they don't have to wear their hair in a bun when in uniform
Right. IIRC their hair could not naturally extend past the collar on their uniform. Anything longer had to be pinned up. (in a bun)
sorry but . . . . Han didn't shoot first

Actually, it's a uniform, meant to make her "stylish"
Believe me if there was an choice to give her a hoodie, a T-Shirt, or even FemShep's little black dress, I'd jump at the option.

I disagree, just because she's wearing it in the Alliance base doesn't mean its a uniform. Clearly BW is taking some leniency on how Alliance requires its officers to dress or they aren't bothered by it, but it isn't a uniform by any means. I mean look at Vega, I wouldn't call what he was wearing standard uniform either.

Greedo FTW
If your contention is that Greedo shot first, you are going to have to do better than just George Lucas' word on that. He frequently gets caught lying about how the films originally came about, and about his tinkering with the original trilogy after the fact. In that article, he is telling yet another lie.
From the script for the original Star Wars film:
INTERIOR: MOS EISLEY -- CANTINA.
As Han is about to leave, Greedo, a slimy green-faced alien
with a short trunk-nose, pokes a gun in his side. The creature
speaks in a foreign tongue translated into English subtitles.
GREEDO: Going somewhere, Solo?
HAN: Yes, Greedo. As a matter of fact, I was just going to see your
boss. Tell Jabba that I've got his money.
Han sits down and the alien sits across from him holding
the gun on him.
GREEDO: It's too late. You should have paid him when you had the
chance. Jabba's put a price on your head, so large that every bounty
hunter in the galaxy will be looking for you. I'm lucky I found you
first.
HAN: Yeah, but this time I got the money.
GREEDO: If you give it to me, I might forget I found you.
HAN: I don't have it with me. Tell Jabba...
GREEDO: Jabba's through with you. He has no time for smugglers who
drop their shipments at the first sign of an Imperial cruiser.
HAN: Even I get boarded sometimes. Do you think I had a choice?
Han Solo slowly reaches for his gun under the table.
GREEDO: You can tell that to Jabba. He may only take your ship.
HAN: Over my dead body.
GREEDO: That's the idea. I've been looking forward to killing you for
a long time.
HAN: Yes, I'll bet you have.
Suddenly the slimy alien disappears in a blinding flash of
light. Han pulls his smoking gun from beneath the table as the
other patron look on in bemused amazement. Han gets up and
starts out of the cantina, flipping the bartender some coins
as he leaves.
HAN: Sorry about the mess.
Han shot first.

I believe the art book describes her outfit as a "stylish officer's uniform" someone else may be able to get the exact quote
@kylecouch It's essentially blue N7 armor. But I always liked that armor so I'm happy to have that much, at elast.

She's a specter now. While she has a security clearance, and works side by side with the military, she's not going to be held to military protocol or standards anymore than Shepard was in ME1. Being technically still in the alliance is just a technicality. She can now dress however she wants, and could even tell Admirals to go to hell too, although she's too professional to do that unless its absolutely necessary.
Someone should totally tell this to Kaidan.

You're taking this a little too seriously.
Isn't that the reason we even post on the BSN though?
Because we take Mass Effect a little too seriously.
Besides which I always thought Mass Effect was a series that at least had pretensions to taking itself seriously. With difficult choices, moral ambiguity and emotional attachment. Themes like racism, gender discrimination, class and social standards, what it means to be human and the difficulty of what 'must' be done versus the 'right' thing to do.
I had always thought Mass Effect was a fairly smart series with a brain or two, that's why it saddens me when I see them pull sh*t like this seemingly to appeal to the lowest possible demographic of gamers. Believe me this would annoy me even if it wasn't happening to my favorite female character, which it is.
Still, like I said before, it's better then it was. Much better and I think by this point 'good enough' really is good enough.

This was my initial argument before I read into what happens.
She isn't a spectre at the start of the game contrary to popular belief.

Ultimately, I'm not interested in what is being sold here. Ash was never this kind of beauty queen soldier. Trying to make her into a sexy Miranda-esque chick now -- and the art devs in interviews have talked openly about 'sexing' up Ashley's new look, like it required this -- is just pointless to me.

Indeed. Before Ash was hot without being an adolescent fantasy.
I wish Bioware would treat its fans like grownups rather than as horny teenagers.

And again, you say fans so easily when even the fanbase spawned from ME1 and 2 are conflicted on it. BioWare is going with what sells and just tweaking it based on fan opinion, no matter how much they like their fans they take things in the direction they wish. It sucks but that is just the way it is, they are a business after all.
