how would I go about doing that?  I've come across mods like

"The elegant Morrigan"

http://dragonage.nex...file.php?id=814

and "Wild and Alluring Morrigan"

http://dragonage.nex...file.php?id=475

but all I want is the hair for Morrigan, not the facial morphs.

The hair for both mods come from More Hairstyles, which I already had installed for my Wardens:

http://dragonage.nex...file.php?id=392

In fact, I'd be fine with using one of the "vanilla" game hair models if I have to.  By the way, despite the fact that a made quite a few things in the Neverwinter Nights toolset, I'm completely clueless about the Dragon Age toolset.  Seems complicated.  I've installed and uninstalled it several times.

You can do that without ever opening the toolset. All you need is the standalone ERF editor to extract the head morph and the standalone GFF editor to edit it (these come with the toolset, so you'll still need to install it).

Open the ERF editor (<DA install dir>\\tools\\ErfEditor.exe). Go to File->Open File and browse to <DA install dir>\\packages\\core\\data\\ and select face.erf. You'll see a whole bunch of MORs - compiled face morphs. For Morrigan, scroll down until you find hf_genfl_morrigan.mor and right click on it. In the pop-up menu, choose Extract Resource and select a convenient place to save it like your Desktop. You can now close the ERF editor.

Open the GFF editor (<DA install dir>\\tools\\GffEditor.exe) and go to File->Open File and browse to the MOR you just extracted (or alternatively, double click on the MOR and when Windows asks, choose to open it with the GFF editor, which will by default associate that file type with the app). With the MOR open, click on the little button next to MORPH_PARTS to expand that section. You'll see that part 2 is listed as hf_har_mora_0. This is the hair model. To change it, just double click on the name to make it editable and replace it with something appropriate. Here is a list of the vanilla human female hairstyles:

hf_har_ha1a_0
hf_har_ha2a_0
hf_har_ha3a_0
hf_har_ha4a_0
hf_har_hb1a_0
hf_har_hb2a_0
hf_har_hb3a_0
hf_har_hb4a_0
hf_har_hc1a_0
hf_har_hc2a_0
hf_har_hc3a_0
hf_har_hc4a_0
hf_har_hd1a_0
hf_har_hd2a_0
hf_har_hd3a_0
hf_har_hd4a_0

You can see pics of them here - http://social.biowar...male_hairstyles If you want custom hair, you'll need to source the models for that and put them in your Override folder (My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\packages\\core\\override\\), then use that filename. If you have More Hairstyles already installed, find the filenames in the included chargenmorphcfg.xml (open in a text editor like Notepad and look under the <hairs> section for the appropriate sex/race).

Once you have made your edit, save the MOR and close the GFF editor. Move the MOR to the Override folder. Start the game and check out your handiwork.

The same process applies for the other companions. Their morphs are of the pattern XY_genfl_Z.mor where X is the one letter race id (E=elf, D=dwarf, H=human, Q=qunari), Y is the one letter sex id (M or F), and Z is the character name.
