This made me smile. A dad puts this video on his ungrateful daughter's facebook wall to teach her about responisbility. It seems a little harsh, but I was laughing to hard to care. I especially love how he built up suspense before taking out his gun.

What do you guys think? Good parent or bad parent? Personally, I take the dad's side because I hate ungrateful kids.

The dad and daughter both suck as far as I'm concerned.

How is that harsh? The girl disrespected her parents by posting that on a social network and even worse a friend of the family who she referred to as "the cleaning lady".

Spoiled little brat who thought she could get away with anything as her punishment was being grounded.

Maybe it will send a message to other parents that they should be harder on their kids or else they will end up with a 30 year old sponger living in their house in the near future.

I salute you, one dad from another.

I "liked" that video for its entertainment value. Got a good chuckle out of it. The punishment is heavy handed, however; and ultimately meaningless. I went through a similar experience in my early teens after bringing home one too many bad grades. My dad smashed something of mine with a sledgehammer in front of me, then took away the television. Guess what? It didn't work.

I still kept up my bad habits and ramped up my reading to replace the loss of gaming and TV. What finally made me "get it" was not any of my dad's punishments or lectures. It was learning things the hard way through life experience.

I doubt this girl and I are in similar situations, but I do think the end result will be similar. This is highly unlikely to correct her behavior. If she didn't have reason to hate her parents before, she probably will now. I mean, what kind of a dad humiliates his child in front of the world like that? It's bad enough to do it in a public setting offline; but on Facebook and YouTube?

This guy is an ***hat. :P

That video was a whole lot of pain to be honest. That dad is a major A hole. I understand teenagers have tantrums and disrespect their parents, but it's really your job as a parent to guide your child. Showing off your gun and shooting her laptop is one of the worst ways you can discipline her.

Seriously, does anyone here think this is putting a good message on parenting? If you cant handle teenagers, don't get kids, and furthermore don't start shooting s**t and posting the video on the most popular social outlets, if there's one thing this video did, is it reinforced some really big stereotypes, and made the guy look like a p**ck. Not to mention unstable.

The kids is out of line, rude and disrespectful but at least she has the excuse of being a teenager.. What the hell is the dads excuse?

I thought it was cool, but at the same time, really?

Hell, he read her post. Sounds to me like she's being overworked and is stressed out. Lets be honest, when you come home from school all you want to do is relax. Yeah, you got to get your homework done, but after that you'd just like to rest and have fun.

Same goes for the parents who work. When you get home, you don't want to have to do chores. You want to relax. You'll still have to do some necessary things like cook food, but otherwise you'd want to be in the clear.

The parents are older. They know about responsibilities and hard work. Their daughter is 15 going on 16, she's still too young to have the same mindset as an older individual would.

Hell, I think she made a good choice. Its kind of like a diary- it gave her a way to relax and settle down a little.

She likely would've been better off if she maturely went to her parents, sat them down, and talked this over. I don't know if they would've listened, but it would've been better received I imagine than them being surprised by a facebook note/wall post.

As for shooting the laptop, yeah that was overkill. It was cool, but it was overkill. I believe the correct response would've been to sit their daughter down, bring up the facebook post, and then civilly discuss what's going on(with a little chastising since they were insulted).

Destroying the laptop and not talking about it helps no one. She's just gonna resent them for it, get pissed off, and her anger is going to stress her out even further.

I believe this will just exacerbate the problem, rather than help alleviate or even fix it.

One of my cousins was somebody who was allowed to get away with too much as a kid and became a real scumbag when he got older, the kind that would beat up his mother and sisters. Maybe some of that was his nature but the lack of his father in his life (divorce) certainly didn't help.

I certainly support this father here, maybe it was harsh but someday she will understand the lesson.

-Note as a gun freak: Hollow point bullets don't "explode" on impact, rather they expand to increase the wound-channel.

Solving problems irrationally with guns ftw. I think that was an awfully silly waste of money. Just sell the thing if she can't have it and you don't want it.

Yeah or give it away, maybe to that nice cleaning lady.  I think a George Carlin quote is applicable here " The truth
is, obedience and respect should not be granted automatically. They should be earned. They should be based on the parents' performance. Some parents deserve respect. Most of them don't. Period."

Now admittedly this is based on a single one sided episode, but he knowingly brought those conditions on himself.

Eh, maybe it was a cheaper laptop. You can never have enough videos of people shooting electronics, cars, microwaves, lawnmowers, etc. on the internet.

Believe it or not, I thought her facebook post was actually very well worded.

Could've been worded better, but hey it got her emotions out.

Or you can put them through a blender. I am presented with a thought. A Reaper. Will it blend?

I lol'd hard at the part where he pulled out a gun and shot the laptop. Indeed, there are no problems that a gun can't solve. What a sh*thead dad. I agree with Fidget, they both suck.

I can understand his frustration. His daughter is at an age where a teenager can be quite difficult to handle. Her lack of respect could be his fault or it could just be her acting out. Goodness knows I acted out at that age and I had fantastic parents. Sure, it's a waste of money to destroy the laptop but, at the end of the day, materialism isn't as important as teaching a child that disrespect will get you nowhere.

Can't say I agree with shooting it but I can sympathise with the guy, at least.

I suppose magnums are one way to solve the problem, but I would have preferred to have seen it solved with a bucket of napalm myself.

I'm afraid the reapers beat you to it with their policy of: A colonist. Will it blend?

Agreed. And if anything remains of the galaxy's current species, let it be that blender superweapon.

As for the parent thing the daughter was obviously in the wrong, but the dad acted so poorly about it. I will admit that it was funny at first though.

That was crazy. I kind of feel sorry for both parties. You see, I've gone through similar stuff with my parents, although it was less disrespectful FB posts and more not doing schoolwork. The father in this case feels like his daughter has no respect for authority figures and is feeling entitled to doing nothing and getting a free ride. The daughter is probably going through a rough time in school, and has to also deal with the usual little brother, teen angst, and growing up. She probably finally snapped, just like the father did. I agree that sitting down, talking it out, and actually coming to a realization would have been much more effective, as this sort of thing is what I would call a worst-case scenario, at least from her perspective.

However, what is true and has always been true is that ultimately, growing up and learning respect is up to the girl. She's only 15, and has quite a bit of learning ahead of her. Hell, I only finally got my **** together when I went off to college (university). It's an overreaction on both sides, except that the father is the adult, and he's the one who actually broke something physical.
