Ha, that's not bloody punishment. My sister was imprisoned for ten year for walking on the grass, I was shot in the gut for putting too much butter on my scone and my brother Handy had his hands chopped off for waving too enthusiastically. My father was hard but firm, modern children are just spoiled by this coddling softly-softly behaviour.

Yeah, it could've been a lot worse. Just because he uses a gun to get rid off the daughter's laptop, shouldn't make it in anyway different. It's not like parents haven't done it before or just thrown stuff into trash as punishment. It's still gone. He didn't shoot his daughter, just the darn laptop. And it was -his- laptop anyhow, he had paid for it he can do what the hell he wants with it.

Damn straight. No child can do any sh*t about it! lol

let me interprate the comments here.

Everyone who has some respect to the elders and don't side with scumbags has sympathy with the father. Everyone who is a rebellious anarcho-liberal has sympathy with the daughter by default.

Logical person don't side with neither of them, which shows his soullessness.

But insufficient Data ... No Consensus is possible!

The video was hilarious but that's not good parenting and I don't care what anyone else says. The guy took a gun and started shooting the laptop? The girl was rude to her parents on facebook and in reply, he publicly rebukes her?

Couldn't he have just grounded her again and sold her laptop? He seemed very angry in my opinion. The way he described his daughter is pretty much a good description for nearly every teenager living in Briton. I'd imagine it's a good description for nearly every teenager in America too.

That's just how children and teens are. It's the parents fault for giving into their demands at an early age and not smacking them.

Proverbs 22:15: "Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him."

A few smacks on your child's bottom will not kill him/her, in fact, this discipline could very much save your child.

I've seen children who have grew up being smacked when they've behaved wrong and they are now well-mannered and good behaved. I've seen children who are put on the naughty step when they've behaved wrong and they are little devils. Smacking your child shouldn't be done in all cases but in severe cases? Yes. In this case, the child is too old and what would have been better would have been for the father and the child to sit down and discuss their differences. They are both in the wrong IMO.

What's wrong with this world?

Humanity.

While his punishment was a bit harsh, it's infinitely better to be too harsh than too soft. I'm sure you all know those people who were never disciplined properly as children and grew up to be scumbags or sleazy. If you discipline too lightly, your kids turn into Paris Hilton or a tweaker. If you're too harsh, they might be resentful but will be better than someone who spoils their kids and doesn't discipline them.

Also, that was a sweet 1911. I've got to get me one of those.

I applaud that man. The girl was being an ungrateful, whining little b*tch. Her father spends his hard-earned money to buy her a laptop and upgrade it, and she uses it to talk **** about him. If we had more fathers like this man, I guarantee America wouldn't be such a sh*thole today.

Really? Is that why we have so many drug-dealing, dope smoking little ****s running around?

Seriously?

That Teenager b*tch deserved to be punished, but honestly, Shooting the Laptop?
didn't he said that he spend the entire previous day fixing it?
by shooting it, all he did was officially waste his time, he could've kept it for himself, or sell it on Ebay.

and, in addition, it ultimately says, "If you have a problem, Grab a gun", which is terrible.

He's a dipsh*t, acting like a teenager himself. Just take the laptop away and tell your daughter that anything she wants needs to be earned through a job. He didn't need to go on you tube and put a cap in her PC.

It wasn't "a cap," it was several hollow point rounds. :D

And I did admit it was over the top.
He should've just taken the damn thing.

Still though, well ,damn.

obviously something was bothering the kid, and the father was being ahole. she didnt have anyone she could trust with her problems, so she went to FB. sad truth, but this father should be ashamed.

this father is going to watch his daughter grow up and move out, then wonder why she is a **** and not wanting to speak to him.

Seeing how this is but a glimpse of how he parents his child I assume this is how their relationship is going to turn out. This guy doesn't know how to raise a kid.

HAHAHHAHAHAHA. Stupid parent and child.

The dad should have just grounded her ass for a month or talk it out. Plus, wow, he sure wasted those bullets for nothing.

Depends where you are. In most of the nation, probably not.  They aren't WMDs, you know.

AP rounds maybe. But hollow points don't really penetrate walls and such like other rounds do, so they aren't quite as "dangerous."

Hrmmm... *sorts out thoughts after watching the video* OK, first of all, I'm not saying that what the father did was wrong. He has the right to discipline and raise his child as he sees fit, and he DID spend the money buying that laptop in the first place. I DO think his reaction was excessive; I personally would have taken the laptop away or maybe sold it on eBay if I was mad enough. But willfully destroying valuable property? I'm much too thrifty to ever do something like that. (Plus, he just said the bullets cost money too!)

Not having known the daughter in person, I can't say for sure whether or not she was deserving of that kind of punishment. I mean, I listened to the letter and I honestly thought what she said in it wasn't a big deal. It was rude, yes. Especially to the "cleaning lady", but not unlike what I'd expect from a typical rebellious teenager. Heck, I have colleagues at work who swear much more often and much more colourfully.

I also don't really see anything wrong with paying a child for 'chores'. Heck, that's exactly how I intend to raise my kid. He or she will have a list of chores and responsibilities around the house. In exchange for doing them, they get a monthly allowance, which they can then spend on things as they see fit. (Aside from harmful things like drugs, cigarettes and alcohol, of course.) If they don't do their chores, they don't get their allowance. I also will NEVER buy them expensive items worth more than $50, unless it's their birthday or Christmas. If they want something more expensive than that, they can save up their allowance and buy it themselves. Or they can find a part-time job if they need more money. This way, they learn fiscal responsibility AND it lets them feel that I'm treating them with enough respect to let them make their own decisions about things in their life.

Too many pseudo-expert about how one should be parenting. The dad went too far and now 14 millions of people have seen his video . Probably everyone in her school also. Which is humiliating much more for a teen than he was on her Facebook.

She's fifteen . She vented a bit on facebook .. Who care? I have done worse. Too much Authority can be has destructive than not enough. Teenager are often selfish and don't see what their parent do for them . It's normal and a part of growing up. What he did was wrong.

Also too many ****  who use this to vomit their hatred for teenager. keep that crap for yourself. You were not a 'better' teenager.

I personally wouldn't have shot the laptop up, selling it or simply taking it away would suffice, but the reality is, the kid isn't working or attempting too, I'm going to assume he bought the laptop (therefore he has all right to destroy it), he is providing a roof and food for the kid. Today especially youth seem to think they are entitled to many things just because its become more standard, at least for well off families to appease. Think about people who don't even have food, or don't have a roof over their head, I have always been blessed with a good family so its extremely hard for me to sympathsize with some girl who thinks she is entitled to a free ride.

But to go out an publicly denounce your parents and basically tell them to F off in the long run, wasn't a smart move by any means and is highly disrespectful. If she has issues with them, wait it out, move out when old enough and live, but perpetuating a ****storm is a no-no.

I do find it hilarious how the video has 14 million views however.

The video was amusing, so that's something.

As for the parenting, I won't go into that all that much. But at least SELL the laptop.
