Really the demo can't be correct surely, auto dialogue everywhere. Completely immersion breaking. Why is it called RPG mode then?

The demo was missing a lot of dialogue sections that we've seen elsewhere - it was a heavily cut section so the only places were combat zones. It didn't have the hub sections that we've seen elsewhere.

The only area where there does appear to be a distinct lack of dialogue options where there should be - is on the way to the committee - but there is a lot of dialogue that we've heard there that isn't used. So maybe for the demo they've kept it as simple as possible so new players who aren't familiar with Mass Effect get TOLD the story first.

Its just speculation, but from the amount of outcomes, choices, dialogue in the leak - it does look to be the exception even if it doesn't have a lot of dialogue options in the new game proper.

Cheers, thought i'd seen different dialogue on the way to the committee before. I'll keep my fingers crossed there is.

It has also been said that dialogue will change depending on whether you import or not. Since we can't import in the demo, it is highly possible that we may get more/different dialogue especially in the intro sections once we import our saves.

How so? You did nearly 100% of the time in ME1, and MOST of the time in ME2.

This game feels SOOO much more scripted that even ME2, and that scares me.

When most of the dialogues in ME1 were:

1. You're just a machine.
2. You're just a machine.
3. You're just a machine.

And I have to choose dialogue options all the time for Shepard to give pretty much single word answers, it's getting a little tedious.

"Are you sure about this?

-Yes.

Are you really sure about this?

-Yes.

Are you absolutely certain?

-Goddamnit, yes. I am certain. Get on with it."

The pacing and mood doesn't allow Shepard to get much choice in talking during that first five or ten minutes in the Alliance base because they are heading to the committee and they need Shepard setting the mood instead of asking questions.

Kinda like in ME1 on Eden Prime? or Ilos?

I'm sorry, but you spent a LOT of time in ME1 during troubling times trying to get the lay of the land before acting. Based on my experience with the demo, ME3 is pure combat...made all the more disheartening when the default game mode choice is neither RPG, or even STORY...but ACTION.

It's very off putting. I'm still going to be picking up my CE, but at this point, the question is if ME3 is the last BioWare game I'll ever buy. Pretty scary, because I've bought every single one of their games since KOTOR sight unseen, no questions asked. But my heart sunk with ME2...and then plummeted more so with DA2...if ME3 is the game I see in the demo...then it will hit the ground and shatter.

Going on an instinct, notice how Action, then RPG, then Story are alphabetised. They couldve easily done Story, RPG, Action. Plus, it makes sense, because the "top" of the menu is the "hardest" difficulty (because action is harder but auto dialog) while Story at the bottom is the "easiest" difficulty (because it is all about you enjoying the story without worrying too much)

I'm pretty sure I heard in a couple of interviews them saying we would have a chance to explain / defend our actions. I'm still clinging to the belief that there is a LOT of content for that starting piece we haven't seen yet.

Hardly "most".  There are some like that, and more where 2 of the three possible dialogues are the same.  But the comparison between the number of choices you have in the dialogue at the start of ME1 and in the ME3 demo are pretty stark.

I wonder if there is a way to combine Story and Action modes.

I was thinking of a mode where the game auto picks dialogue but where combat is easy/removed as well. I've long wished for a Cinematic Narrative mode where you don't really play a game but instead watch or experience the glorious narrative that BioWare expertly weaves.

oh then RPG mode and choose "limited decisions", everything is auto dialogue except for "major" decisions, and just change the difficulty to easy

I hate to sound like a total douche but... why not wait and see, because you won't know until you play it.

And even if there were less dialogue options, what are you going to do about it? Cancel the pre-order? Moan and then play it anyway?

Clearly this technique's use in conveying a story of Metroid: Other M's caliber indicates that it is the perfect medium for watching Shep save the universe from the plot of Matrix Reloaded and Tali's virginity.
