Are the Mass Effect games too long?

I don't know if it counts how many times a single player starts, because if it did, I had about 65 to 5000 DAO characters that I never finished the game with. I also don't know how many times other people jumped on my computer and started a character and had a bash.
I also know that on the xbox everyone who has come around has probably started at least one ME game in my house.
If those are being counted then it massively throws the numbers out - then there are the people who may not have internet access (I would say since less than 50% use xbox live gold) the number of people on Xbox that don't use the internet on their console could be high and thus throwing figures out as well.
Anyway point is - I don't think this figure ever represents an accurate figure for companies to use. Even if by some miracle it was an accurate figure, I still have a huge list of games I love and adore that I have never got around to finishing, but when people ask - I tell them its one of the best games I've ever played.
Whoa - Ok that was off topic and kind of blah blah. Yeah I think ME length (one and two) is bang on. Any longer and the interest drops, any shorter and I think they would have to cut too much out of the story they want to tell.

Same here. A friend of mine didn't even get past the first 15 minutes of ME1, because it had "too much talking". You see, this is why we can't have nice things.Sweawm wrote...

There are bound to be a ton of people who borrow the game and don't like it, or rent it and don't feel like completing it, or buy it used and don't find the time for it, etc. Think about ALL the different people who could possibly put the game in and press start at least once. All of those people are part of that statistic, not just us.

ALL video-games have an average completion rate of 50%, not only Mass Effect.
It's only completely normal that only 50% of all players finish Mass Effect. It's like that with ALL video-games. It has been like that for years. It is in fact the very reason why many developers these days make shot(er) games.
Now tell me OP, would you honestly want Mass Effect to become shorter, just because the majority chose not to finish their game? Does that mean all games should become shorter? Does that mean the games also should become cheaper? Or do you think we should get less content but still pay the same price?

First of all, the reason Valve used the episodic model for the Half-Life franchise is to not make fans wait 6 years between each game. They have also abandoned this model, after seeing that it's not satisfying enough, hence the long wait for Half-Life 3.
Also, check out Steam's global achievements stats. You'd be surprised how many people never finished some of the single player games...
