Yeah, completion rates are really quite low for games in general.

Reminds me of this.

Mass Effect needs to be shorter, like about as long as Portal.

Then it'll get a larger percentage of people completing the game...

I have an idiot friend who didn't get past Eden Prime because he claimed the game was too 'boring'

I'm willing to bet this is the reason most of those players didn't finish ME2. Casual players were drawn in with promises of Gears-like combat, then went "What's up with all of this talkie crap?" ME3 has "Action Mode" for players with shorter attention spans.

and who ever suggests that needs to be punished

Excuse me waiter, this meal tastes too good, could you bring me something that will not satisfy me, please?

" half the people who started Mass Effect hadn't completed it"
It's normal. I red somewhere that generally only 20 % gameres complite there games.
Regarding Mass effect, some people play ones, some never finish, and some people like me, played 5 times.
So i finished this game for these 4 people who didn't play to the end, AND YOU KNOW WHAT IT WAS AMAZING EVERY SINGLE TIME

It's fine as it is, I don't want a "fast food" game that takes less than 10 h to complete

And honestly, having completed the Darkness II in like five hours with its incredibly short/disappointing campaign, I can honestly say I don't think we need games to continue decreasing in length.

YES INDEED! Let's make them SHORTER! HERP DERP. If you think they're too long, then that's your problem, OP...If you can't focus enough on one game for a while, then switch to another game...it's THAT simple. Really, people on here complain about EVERYTHING...Be happy with the games you get, dammit. Bioware could just as well say '**** you' and make games without even listening to their audience...

Hmm, I don't know... but you might have a point about shorter games having better completion rates, OP.:pinched:Though, the relation is not absolute.

sauce: http://www.gamasutra...g_feedback_.php which is quite interesting article in itself.

Personally, I would be nowhere near as excited during my 1st playthrough if I knew that the adventure will not end / will probably end with some kind of cliffhanger and that it will be pretty short. So, as much as shorter campaigns may make sense, I don't like this idea.

However, since you have asked what should Bioware do to boost Mass Effect's completion rates, I would like to point you to aforementioned article on Gamasutra from which I borrowed the chart. It nicely describes how the games should try to avoid discouraging players from trying by using ending screens such as "game over",  "you lost" or "mission failed" and also should monitor players' progress and point out the things in which they have improved and motivate them to keep trying.

Imagine Mass effect 3 complite playthrough in 5 hours. Like uncharted 3. Literally get out of earth, get back, kill some reapers, marry wrex, the end lol

50% completion rate for ME2 is not bad, hell it's a good competition rate.

Hmm - the games at the top of that completion list are also games that completion can be measured in hours and one sitting.

Why is everyone so worried whether people complete the game or not?
I personally don't give a frak. I complete it, what other people do is not my concern.
And as far as ME goes, I don't think they are too long. The only part that feels a bit too long is the resource gathering in both games but that has been talked to death already. I just know that I don't want shorter ME games, rather longer ones because they are just awesome.

CrustyBot casts: resist Dragon Age 2 insult.

CrustyBot: Will Save vs Snarky Comment: *Failure*: (0 + 0 = 0 vs DC: Press + Button = Awesome).

Also, why is everybody calling the OP a troll? Sure he makes unpopular threads, but ****, seeing some of the threads on BSN which are regarded in all seriousness by it's participants, I don't get why tetris is singled out.

I think he's a pretty cool guy, eh makes threads and doesnt afraid of anything.

I would place blame on the mining mini-game/garbage. It tries the patience of enve the most stubborn FAN, let alone people new to the series. As for length, Nah. It now takes me 34 to 35 hours to complete these days. :P

For me (I can feel like an old gamer) the answer is simple... Games are too damn SHORT nowadays. And no, ME1/2 isn't too long!

Nothing wrong with some casul fun. I spend lots of time playing multiplayer with the general public (opposite of competitive gaming - that **** takes commitment) and Arkham City is fun in small doses.

Arkham City? Small doses? Hah! I played 4-6 hours a day and I'm only at 46% completion (that's counting EVERYTHING, I beat the story)!

Mass Effect 2 was too short for me to be honest and yes I did a perfect playthrough doing all the side missions and getting all the minerals. Let's hope ME3 will be longer.

ha Arkham city in small doses I beat Arkham city the same day I got it and that was 6-7 hours later, and then I went to the next difficulty and it took me about 6 hours straight to beat it on the newer difficultiy. Now on to mass effect it is not to short, as a matter of fact Mass Effect needs to be longer than what it is.

Well naturally I did a week long marathon for the campaign, trophies and challenge rooms. But it gets old fast.

Damn, I never ever thought I'd be praising a game for it's collectables, and I usually don't take them seriously but there was just something about the trophies in this game that I found addicting. I think the full use of Batmans large utility belt and pressure plates made collecting a lot of fun.
