With the amount of work they put into ME3 and the chances of being slightly sleep-deprived during the devolopment followed by a bunch of people trashing the entire game based off a demo with two missions, I think he has the right to be a dismissive ass if he feels like it. I know if I worked hard on something and I wound up getting slammed with "Discriminating bastards!" and "You did a s**tty job!" before they see all of my work on what they're bashing, I would be far more impatient than he has been.

Hey guys,

I know this will start to become a concern as we get into the launch timeframe with the demo and...other things..and it may seem like we are "favoring" certain platforms.

What I want to tell you is this: we don't care what platform you play on. If you are a player of our game, a fan of BioWare, Mass Effect (and SWTOR, and DA....etc) we value you. Very, very highly. Sometimes there are going to be things that happen that may make you question that, but please don't. You are the bedrock our successes are built on.  When we have to omit a particular platform or group of players from something, we do so regretfully and only after carefully considering all the options on the table.

Now, the thing is I can't come here and publicly tell you *exactly* why some platforms will or won't be involved in any particular release or promotion. There are always a LOT of variables that affect those things. Many people, multiple companies, many days/weeks/hours of discussions, much planning, much debate. Often it is groups that you guys don't have any real visibility to. Sometimes, things are actually beyond our control (and by that I mean EA as well) and we just have to make the best of that.

So basically: please know that we are always going to make every effort to bring every promotion and release (and content) to as many platforms and fans as we can. At no point does anyone ever think "oh well, those are just XYZ players. No big deal.".

That's about as up front as I can be on this topic (without getting in hot water). In less than a week, everyone will be playing the entire demo. Hopefully multiple times and many hours of multiplayer :)  The war is almost here.

This doesn´t change the fact that a part of your fans get to play the demo much earlier. It doesn´t really matter that much to me, but I cal BS.

Very understandable people are getting pissed :wizard:

Sigh. -_- I've posted a list of five things that explain the difference between the 360 and ps3 and out of those five, you just zoom in on one and ignore the rest huh? Is reading always this challenging to you or do you just like to spew stuff and see what bounces back?

No, unlike most 360 owners in this thread, PS3 / PC gamers are more civilized.

Chris didn't put any work into ME3. Probably they wouldn't let him stay late in the office, even if he wanted to. :P

He has the right to be dismissive because he has to put up with this crap every single day. Imagine if it was your job to facilitate interaction with the people here.

There's a reason nobody else from BioWare really ever comes here that often. If Chris had that same luxury, I'm sure he'd make only substantive, magnanimous posts. Jarrett never comes here, so he doesn't yet know enough to not waste his energy.

Lol don't people realise it's Microsoft who is giving out these demo codes, not Bioware/EA. Love how everyone jumps on the band wagon of hate for something that is not even in the hands of the people you're hating on.

sorry if i offend, but some of your replies(mostly all) are considered by me straight trolling, give a real reply to those who wanna know 'why', because right now ea and mostly bioware are really acting this way, u cant probably not see it because u work for them, again nothing against u, but replies like the one above are not acceptable...

...Or, it simply could be that Chris and certain other BioWare folks on these boards are sick and tired of certain people constantly and irrationally accusing them of idiotic, utterly-imagined biases where none exist, and respond accordingly.

I don't think so, you're fine to do it.

But seriously, some people are being hyperbolic but I agree that the ME team does a slightly lazy job on the PC version. I got seriously frustrated when they twitted there wouldn't be menu hotkeys, i.e., there wouldn't be BARE MINIMUM features. If you're gonna do a PC RPG game, then do menu hotkeys, it's a standard. That message automatically said it would be a port like ME2 and nothing more. No high resolution textures, DX10, 11, controller support, those menu hotkeys people asked, nothing. That message said they didn't add more features based on the extensive feedback in ME2 from the PC gamers in hope that they would receive a better PC Mass Effect 3. And this is sad.

Although if there aren't any major problems, that won't affect my judgement on the game. I really just want a kick ass polished game.

Third of as for it being solely for 360, even PC gamers need to remember that when they decide to bash PS3 for getting the ME series. Thanks to EA from what I understand PC was able to get ME1, ME2, and ME3. From what I understand Mass Effect series was originally going to be for 360 only but something went wrong there I am sure. I aint going to state what i think happened there but I am sure you know where I am heading with that statement.

It wasn't anything "wrong," per se, but rather that EA acquired BioWare through their purchase of Pandemic Studios, and essentially convinced BioWare to release the PC version of ME1 in mid-2008.

Prior to this, when BioWare was a subsidiary of Microsoft, the first game was only intended to be a total Xbox 360 exclusive (in the same vein as DA:O initially being a total PC exclusive) -- and while EA could dictate the imperative for console versions of Dragon Age to BioWare, contractually, they could not do the same for the Mass Effect franchise (BioWare having retained sole control over the series as a condition of the sale)

However, BioWare evidently felt comfortable enough with the notion of a PC port of ME1 (and, later PS3 ports of the second and third games) to consent to this plan, which leads to the current release-strategy of today.

So what DarthSilver is saying, if it wasn't for Electronic Arts, the Playstation 3 and Personal Computer would not have been able to play Mass Effect 2 & 3 (also Mass Effect 1 for Personal Computer). The entire trilogy would have been XBox only along with other great games such as Halo series, Gears of War and oh wait, that's it.

Is that true?

Pretty much, yeah -- the Mass Effect franchise essentially would've remained another of Microsoft's proprietary properties, and although we might've still eventually seen PC releases of the games, anything on the PS3 would've been totally out of consideration.

I get tired of people whining over textures and spending the extra .02 seconds it takes to navigate through the ESC key like someones on a crusade against them. Guess we both get to deal with it.

I think the issues with UI adaptation are somewhat different than you imagine them to be.

Look at it this way:
For the XBox 360 they map and work all controls to work smooth and as easy as the controller allows it. Menu Navigation is designed so that you can easily move through it with your thumbpad(s). You can probably scroll through text on the 360, and the limited hotkeys are used as best as they can.
Then when it's time to do the PC (and I imagine the PS3 gets the same treatement), they remap the keys and allow the mouse to do the work of the thumbpads. For the rest there is no optimization to allow the other control schemes the same ease as the 360.

I'm not saying it's a dealbreaker, it's a sign of poor porting though and rather poor show to not take the same effort for the other platforms.

Why is it "poor" for them to not invest a whole bunch of time remapping the controls? Or, as most people seem to desire, creating a whole new set of controls. If there was a difference in response that would be one thing, but there isn't, and my mouse controls better than the thumbstick, hands down.

I guess I just don't see how having to use the same control scheme mapped onto my keyboard is some kind of giant snub by Bioware.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but you really don't know what you're talking about. You may need to branch out and play more pc games from different devs to understand what is being discussed here.  I for one get tired of people defending lazy development. Many gamers don't know any better cause all they've played are gimped console ports.

I was going to look for that post which said: "keep giving them average stuff so they eventually get used to it and stop complaining".

It's not a giant snub, it's a lack off effort towards these platforms that the 360 does get.
That they could always do a worse job isn't much of an excuse to not do a better job.

What is this whole bunch of time you keep saying? It should be very simple for the company which make Neverwinter Nights. A game which was greatly implemented for the PC, in every possible way, patched to perfection and had ONLY 36 (thirty fraking six!!!!) slots in the quick bar.

It should be real easy for them to make it. Hell, ME1 had it.  What's wrong with this people? As the years goes by, those kind of features should improve not regress! Oh wait, perhaps they never really played a PC game.

I fail to see how I'm being screwed if I get the same game as the 360 users. As for the demo being four days earlier for 360 players, I don't care, it's a demo, I'm not paying for it (and no, I don't get upset over the "principle" of the situation).

Sony and Microsoft charge companies for putting games on their platforms that is why it use to be console games were 60$ and PC games were 50$. Now PC games are 60$ too. If PCs are just getting complete ports without modding, high res textures, etc. Then yes you are getting 'cheated'. Since it is just a 10$ fee charge for the hell of it.

People are complaing about demo releases and origin being needed for pc? Get over it, Mass Effect started out as Xbox exclusive, just be happy your getting the game and as for demo's? I don't even play them, there one HUGE spoiler! (Bioware needs to keep up a good relationship with Microsoft )

See but it's not really a lack of effort. An XBox 360 user is not getting anything more than I am. They get the same control scheme.  A Kinect user does get extra stuff, but that's because they paid Microsoft a bunch of money, and Microsoft subsequently gave some of that money to Bioware to make stuff for Kinect. What you guys are actually complaining about is not getting MORE effort for the same amount of money everyone else paid. That's not the same as being ignored. Now it's nice when a company puts all that effort into extra PC only features, but I fail to see how it's some kind of God-given right the way people in these topics seem to expect.

As a non-expert  in PC programming, I assume it must take time and effort by a programmer to add extra functionality to to a control scheme for a single platform. If someone out there makes video games and knows better, feel free to correct me.

And yes, ME1 had it. When it disappeared in ME2, I barely noticed. It helped that I wasn't constantly having to open my inventory to delete all the junk loot. My guess is that the reason they didn't include it is that they felt spending the time it had taken to do that wasn't worth it compared to spending that time making the content better across ALL the platforms.

Wow everyone but me can make jokes..... well that's normal.

But I have already made my views known and I agree with the posts from Bioware since there appears to be an agreement made (most likely initiated from Microsoft) in regards to the early release.

But again this is normal in busines, one company wants an edge over the other, in this case Microsoft getting early access to content which makes the system appear more viable for the game.  Happens all the time as I stated in my last few posts about all the PS3 exclusives Sony has made contracts for over the years.
