While running about the catwalks in Vancouver, Kaidan/Ashley call in on the radio that they're "trying to take down the Dreadnought". We then see a Reaper destroying a ship that's hovering in mid air with a few shots. Now there's a number of problems with this.

>The Codex clearly states that Dreadnoughts are kilometre long vessels which cannot enter atmosphere even on low gravity worlds. Even Carriers cannot enter atmosphere on a planet with 1 G.

>The Codex states that the main gun of Sovereign would be able to destroy any Alliance ship with a single shot.

Anyone else bothered how unserious BioWare seem to be about consistency?

That ship is a cruiser not a dreadnaught.

VA fail not lore.

They refer to it as a Dreadnaught.  That is the problem.

I haven't seen the intro level in the demo, nor will I watch the scenes till March, but I believe I can answer these with what little I have seen of the intro back in E3 and through Bioware Pulse.

1) It is clearly not an Alliance dreadnought, but a cruiser. I don't know what the VS is referring to, but its not that ship.
2) That Reaper was not using its spine-mounted gun, nor, if you look, even its tentacle cannons. In the Bioware Pulse episode detailing the Sounds of the Reapers (www.youtube.com/watch at 3:52), you can clearly see the Reapers have ANOTHER kind of weapon systems, one that looks like its meant for short range encounters such as firing at infantry while landed. This is the weapon used to destroy the cruiser, meaning, yeah, that Reaper took down an Alliance cruiser with lower powered weapons it uses for ground-based targets.

Yes, the lore states that Dreds don't do so good in atmosphere, so yes, it's a bit wierd to see one right there in front of you.

Yes, soldiers don't typically refer to their own ships as "that dreadnought" - they'll more typically refer to a ship by its own name.

These are very small issues. ME always been full of them, but they shouldn't detract so much from the awesome that is the franchise as a whole.

I think they were referring to the Reaper as the dreadnought, but obviously Ashley thought wrong that it could be taken down by a mere cruiser lol.

the reapoers can land on planets because they are the masters of mass effect field technology.. and millions of years old. all technology is based on there technology.

as for the dreadnaught and people thinking its a cruiser. bioware just reuses the same model for cruisers and dreds.

as for the dred landing on a planet it probably couldnt because it would probably be crushed by its own weight once the mass core was shut down. so yeah it cant land.

but as to it going in atmo. with how vauable the drednaughts are id say its more a fact that nobody was crazy enough to take the risk of cruising a multi billion credit warship into an atmo to see if it can do it or now since there are other ships in the fleet deisnged to do that.

Yes I know, but Alliance Dreadnaughts don't look like Cruisers.

Its a book, there are typos and bad writing.  This is a game which arguably takes just as much if not more work than writing a book as its writing a book + making a game.  Something like this can sometimes happen, an oversight.

People who get their butts hurt over it just make things worse.

I have not seen this part, but I would not start calling foul yet, even if it is a Dreadnaught. Nothing ever said they would instantly breakdown in atmosphere. My guess is that they would not have the lift to get back out into space and that is why they don't typically do it.. However, if I am a captain of a Dreadnaught and I see giant reapers destroying everything I love, I think I might risk bringing the ship into the fight. It is better than doing nothing.

As for the gun... a .50 cal bullet can kill a man in a single shot. Does this mean that every person ever shot with a .50 bullet died in the first shot?

I imagine that, even in the future, there will be physicists.

Which would mean they don't actually need to do it to know exactly what would happen. ;-)

So the dreadnought should fire from orbit instead? Where it's at an angle so the planet is in the way, not to mention the newly made debris field?

Yeah, that'll work out just fine.

It was that way in the beta too.  Actually, have we even seen an Alliance Dreadnaught yet?  I don't have the demo until Valentines day.  :(

Outside of orbit, the codex offers ME Space combat tactic insight.  Not only does being in a gravity well do wonderful things to MA rounds, but also can cook the ships drives faster in combat.  A dreadnought would probably be able to sit in low orbit, but then crash or have to get pulled out somehow.  In this case, it's a Cruiser made to look like a Dreadnought,or called one to add to the effect the Reaper's weapons are devastating.

So you think that someone's opinon is invalid just because they have not registared their games? So it is not possible to have read a book without registering games, or have the games registaered to a diffrent account, or even simply played the games and never registered them? Or are you saying that you are somehow more entilted to your opinon because you update your profile more often? <_<

I think everyones opinions on the GAMES are valid but not telling other people that they should get a life because they have an opinion on the game - my point is people can praise the games or critize them all they want and should not be belittled because of it.

Oh of course, but it was probably intentionally done.  To be fair, they need to re-examine and retcon the current codex.
