Not in the slightest. Seeing the "Action Mode" garbage, the awkward conversations with everyone (no questions, just para or ren options) and the five seconds of Vega left a bad taste in my mouth. Mass Effect 2 blew me away, as did it's demo, but this one felt rushed and incomplete. No intrigue? That's a big part of Mass Effect, one of the reasons people love the games and one of the biggest contributing factors to the roleplaying element. Why even ask us if we want to play in "roleplaying" or "story" modes if we only get three dialogue options in the demo? Talk about misleading.

There was no roleplaying, next to no interactions and it really felt like Bioware was saying "Hey, this is what Shepard is going to do. Sit back and enjoy until it's time to respond to people." If there's this little control over the commander in the retail I won't bother. The demo alone has made me wary of a day one purchase.

Five seconds of vega and you hate him? Remind me to never salute you or show you respect you've been missing for two games.

The combat was good except for sometimes I'd try sticking my head around the corner to shoot and end up zoomed in on the wall. Only other combat complaint I have was that my tech armor didn't seem to help at all, like it wasn't even there.

However my main bugaboo was the dialog and actual storytelling. I know that it's a demo and it's not going to be as extensive as the full game, but that was ridiculous. I was expecting something like candy in a Christmas stocking, it's not horrible nor it's not the greatest thing in the world. Instead we got cat poop in a plastic bottle.

After hearing about all the improvements to combat, I was expecting better than what was in the demo. Shepard was very "floaty" feeling. That's the only way to describe it. The recoil on the Tempest was just plain silly. Oh, and I despise the Atlas and Cerberus engineers. May they burn in hell. >.<

Setting up a singularity + warp bomb *inside* a Cerberus shuttle and killing three troops at once was pretty amazing.

Since I skipped all the cutscenes/dialogue from both segments of the demo, I cannot comment on the quality of the narritive or the writing, but the visuals and gameplay improvements are amazing (epecially the HUD, new level-up menu and talents). HOWEVER I one one substantial gripe regarding the demo -  the animations are shockingly subpar for a AAA title. Here are a few examples of poorly implemented animations off the top of my head -
  • Shepard's sprint animation. Shepard DOES NOT move his/her lower body while sprinting. It looks rediculous (in fact, the animation is so bizarre that it distracted me from focusing as much as I could have).
  • Squad movement looks forced and awkward. Not to be rude, but my brother and I burst into laughing when we saw Anderson's run animations.
  • Reloading is blindingly fast. Playing a shooter with long reloads can be frustrating, but near instantaneous reloads can be equally jarring (imo).
  • Rolling often results in Shepard sliding into cover and vise-versa, greatly ruining the fluidity of combat. EDIT - playing a second time helped me adapt to the mechanics a bit (as did not starting on insanity), but I still found myself floundering more than I should have getting in and out of cover.
  • As with the sprint animation, Shepard does not move the lower-half of his/her body when using heavy melee attacks (at least the Omni-blade), thus the animation lacked the necessary impact to feel satisfying.
I understand that the demo may not be an accurate gauge of the final product (DA2's demo was significantly more flawed than the full game), but I'll be damned if the demo hasn't put some doubts in my head regarding the technical aspects and fluidity of the gameplay.
Just my two cents.

I loved the demo. The combat feels MUCH more fluid than it did in ME2 and the animations also feel the same way. I also dig the new gun sounds, the new grenades (ESPECIALLY Lift, that's easily one of my new favourite things in the ME series) and the new improved biotic/tech powers look great. I love how you don't even really have to fire a shot as an Adept because you're just tearing apart everything with biotics.

Compared to the Earth level, I enjoyed the Sur'Kesh mission more... a lot of action and the running with armor on looks better than in the Earth part. A pity there's no Weapon Workbench to fiddle around with or in-depth conversations to be had. Wrex is awesome and glorious in pretty much every scene, but at the moment the Atlas is being dropped into the battlefield, Wrex seems to have a different voice??? Don't know if that's a glitch or something... (is it Urdnot Wreav's voice maybe?).

There's some debate on it right now, but it looks like they probably mixed some of Wreav's dialogue with Wrex's in the demo.

For me it was only off for the 1st few minutes. After that it got straightened out. Except for some of Andersons lines. Other than that, didnt have a problem.

Absolutely loved it. Hopped right in on Vanguard and started decimating mooks with Charge/SHEPARD PAWNCH combination. AI is great, music is WONDERFUL (especially at the end on Earth, where you get the serene track interrupted occasionally by the "Reaper note".... it was perfect), and I was incredibly happy to see Wrex, Liara, and Garrus actually speaking with each other before Sur'Kesh. Can't wait for multiplayer to open up, I feel like I won't stop playing that until ME3 is here.

I agree about the running animation - it's awful. The hips don't rotate enough making shep look like he's towing something heavy behind him or is attached to a bungee rope.

Gameplay wise it's excellent. The powers pack more of a punch and the guns particularly the shotguns have more utility from mid range. I was blown away by all the biotic classes but the tech ones left me a bit stale. The caster classes were dealt a rough hand in the demo. In the first part you had the low cooldowns but hardly any powers to make use of them and in the second half you had all the powers but crippling cooldowns making combos impossible without squad help.

I understand folks complaints about the cover - gears of war does this so much better. I lost track of the times I got sucked into cover or rolled out of cover by mistake - it was probably the main reason I died during the demo. That said it's not gamebreaking and can be adapted to hopefully.

Roll on March!

Yes, it more than met my expectations - The wait for March 9th is now more painful than ever. On the combat side, I found it very easy to pick up. A bit of a struggle the first time, but it becomes second nature very quickly. I sure didn't have any problems with cover or the roll. And Vanguard now replaces Adept as my new favourite class!! Nova is too cool :)

Audio is a huge step up on ME2. The guns sound and feel great, the music in many places has a more synth ME1 vibe to it.

Funny how people who say they loved it and it exceeded their expectations generally go on to praise the combat and the weapons sounds/customization. But don't say or share any particular concerns about the reduced dialogue options (I know it's been confirmed there should be more but I don't expect a lot of folks to know about that when they try the demo), the facial animations being kind of off, and the wax doll syndrome. Just saying... Could the people who are blown away be more into the action side of Mass Effect?

The GUNS! Bloody 'ell do they feel satisfying to shoot. The way they handled powers is awesomesauce too. Moving around corners is going to take a bit of getting used too. And it looks like they amped up the squad interaction (going by the opening of the 2nd mission abord the, what is that, space cab?). All in all, loved it.

The only animations that really took me out of it were Anderson's walk and Liara's run. Everything else? It's BioWare. Doesn't bother me. The wax doll syndrome hasn't done anything to me either. I don't mind it at all.

The auto-dialogue? Yeah, it's worrying. That's the only thing, but it's a big thing.

Oh fiiine. Yeah, the faicial sync was off up untill the hearing for me, then it cleared up. Things seemed almost too dark in some scenes. Not too worried about the cnovos, thought there was a few points where the action paused for a convo to take place and was then played out for you without input. Not sure if I should worry or not. I'll have faith.

As for what the demo did demonstrate, well, thats my opinion, no need to go spreading it around.

I'm glad so many people have mentioned automated dialogue, because I was honestly starting to think I was crazy and alone. On the first play through of the demo, I have to admit I *hated* it. If that's how the intro to the main game is going to be in the full retail, then I'm skipping it every single time. Having so little control over Shepard and the dialogue options was as jarring as it was disheartening, and I found it extremely hard to care about the situation going on around me when I couldn't get involved in any way except for a handful of dialogue options that don't mean anything. Picking one way or another on all of them gets you exactly the same response. I wasn't happy.

However on the second play through, I enjoyed it a whole lot more. Now the initial shock of how much automated dialogue was in and how you could get further expansion on nothing going on around you had worn off, I had a lot of fun. The combat is smoother, the new powers are awesome and the old powers never looked better. The gameplay is fantastic, and I had a lot more fun in the combat sections on Sur'Kesh than I think I've ever had in combat on ME1 or ME2.

So right now, I'm crossing all my fingers that the introduction is different for those who import saves (with more choices, not more automated dialogue) and that if that's not the case, it's the exception to the rule and the rest of the game will deliver everything story and dialogue wise we've come to know and love for this series. Bioware have really nailed the combat now, I just hope they haven't done it at the expense of everything else.

Overall, looking forward to seeing how the multi-player and the main game works out on release! :D

Something tells me automated dialogue is going to be common in the main game.

I thought it was great, i loved the combat. There were a few problems though like:
- Less dialogue options. But ive heard its only because its a demo so.. yeah
- Yeah some character facial animation was just awful. "THE **** YOU'VE DONE SHEPARD!" Anderson says angrily with a complete straight face
- Cover system is a bit clunky

other than that its all plain sailing yo. gj.

It met my expectations, in that ME combat will always feel slightly wonky but oddly enjoyable. Graphics are improved over ME2, although everyone looks more plasticy and the eyes look worse than in ME2 (to me). I liked the more meaty power customisation, look forward to playing with the weapon customisation. I don't want pass judgment on anything else, but the amount of auto-dialogue is concerning (hope the full game + imported shep will make a difference).
