I just got ME2, and the game has started crashing whenever I hit esc to pause the game. After doing some research on these forums, I've found that it's a result of the newer version of the driver for my Intel Graphics HD 3000, and the problem can be mitigated by installing an older version of the driver, as seen in bromad's post at this link: http://social.biowar...25025/1#8920171

However, the link that bromad's post links to is dead. Does anyone know where I could find the earlier driver?

downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx

try intel, they are the best place to look, if you haven't already.  Just search the DL pages for previous version instead of using the latest.

Yeah, I had already checked there. They don't seem to keep any archive of old drivers at all.

I just wanted to post here so that people know I found the solution to the problem.
If your PC is running a Intel HD 3000 graphics driver, when you try to open the menu it will result in a crash and will bring you back to windows. there is however a solution that dose not require you to go out and by a new PC the solution is to use the older .2361 drivers.
you can download this from
http://www.wikidrive...MA_15.22.1.2361
once you install that the game will function beautifully. you can hit escape all day long and you won't crash to desktop
Thanks again everyone. See you around.

"Beautifully" is an exaggeration, and the reason the game doesn't try to operate with any other Intel video drivers is that the strain of attempting to handle chores so far above the designed capacity are quite likely to damage the system itself as a result.

The fact that some people are too badly brain-washed by the Intel Corporation to be able to shop intelligently for a better system that costs less and meets the minimum requirements is because the Federal Government didn't apply a large enough fine on Intel for its illegal behaviors, not because the minimum requirements are incorrect.

Bnomad the links on those pages don't work, at least not for the 64-bit.

As for the Intel video driver, I've run much more graphic intensive games than the Mass Effect 3 demo with great results and no crashes. Its only been with this game and Mass Effect 2

Awesome! Thanks for the solution bnomad. SinfulJester, you're right, those x64 links are dead. I Googled the driver and found a Polish site (with a good reputation according to Web of Trust) that provides the x64 driver, though you have to change the drop-down from x86 (32-bit) to x64 (64-bit). The link is below. The file downloaded and installed successfully and the game is now running great. I hit the Esc key twenty times in rapid succession just for the sheer joy of seeing it not only not crash, but not even lag. Thanks again.
