What about Mordin and Legion?
Oh Maker... that reminds me, in my Cheating-on-Liara-w/-Jack playthrough I lost Mordin and Legion in the aftermath of the Human-Reaper battle. I'm gonna assume I'm super boned on any possiblity of getting the Geth/Krogan/Quarians on my side since Wrex is also dead, and Tali is in exile.

Character that are better suited out side of Shepard's team
1.Mordin: I love the character but he is better suited as a non-squadie for the story Genophage and STG stuff
2.Wrex: Krogan wouldn't respond well to a leader who is attempting to unite them only to run off with aliens.
3.Miranda: Logically if Miranda were to leave Cerberus TIM would just give the info on her Sister's location to her father for a huge sum of money and may even have her delivered to him.So if Miranda leaves Cerberus after ME2 I think she'd know that TIM would do this so she would go keep a close eye on her sister or right to her father and try and kill him. Not stick with Shepard. Maybe if she killed her father she would join up but depending on her fathers power and resources she may just take over his empire to help stop the Reapers.
4.Samara: As much as it pains me to say this She would depart to Asari space to try and keep innocent Asari safe and protect them from the Reapers it's what the code demands of her.
5.Zaeed: I think Zaeed would be leading the blue suns or some other Group against the Reapers attacks or even against Cerberus points of interest. Even if Vido is alive he'd be easy to have killed given Liara is the Shadow Broker With those resources this is where I think Zaeed would be found and best suited to who he is as a character.
6.If Morinth is alive: She'd be gone and going back to killing again. With the Reapers coming in she'd be able to have her pic of victims, So I wouldn't expect her to pop up in ME3 unless in some unexpected place where she offered people safety only to have s cult of people willing to die for her and give themselves to her
Characters I don't see any reason why the wouldn't be back with Shepard as Squadies or Crew Members
1.Thane: he was trying to make the galaxy a better place before he died and sticking with Shepard is where I think he would be.
2.Legion: He was looking for "Shepard Commander Fought Heretics, opposed old Machine" he was created to go into organic space as a single platform would not spark a war. Unless Legion has other things to help the geth rather then stay on with Shepard-Commander and help save the galaxy and also represent the geth and earn organics Trust.
3.Grunt: I could see him going to work with Wrex but I could also see him staying with Shepard. For the sake of letting players have a Krogan Squadie he'd stay. Would he need a new Mission or could his be part of the Genophage plot line? If so Bioware really could make that it and if he died then they wouldn't have to work to hard to replace him with a Random Krogan in the Genaphage Mission if any at all right?
4.Jack: She is the most problematic Depending on how things where between you and Jack if they were fine she'd stay. If you Pissed her off she'd be gone if she were gone were would she be that she'd fit? I feel Bioware is in a tricky spot here. If you pissed her off maybe it would be best if Bioware killed her off? At the same time if you pissed her off maybe her being at the Grissom Academy for some mental help would be best. Hence maybe the reason the rumors of her being a teacher? I didn't ****** her off in fact all my Shepard's kept her happy on the Normandy So her staying makes perfect sense to me,
Unsure Characters
1.Kasumi: What do we know about her really? She loved Kagi Okuda and was a thief. I don't get this character and her staying makes as much sense as her leaving. I think the people who want her back the most are the people who want her as a LI.
2.Jacob Taylor: If he leaves Ceberus he's stay on with Shepard or he would join up with Anderson who could have him back in the Allaince and stationed. Would anyone give a poop if he was there or would you feel like he was just talking up space? It's all the dumb Iphone games fault he is in this mess.
Crew Members
1.Gabby and Ken: They seemed to join Cerberus just to because they wanted to do something about stopping the Reapers and wanted to support Shepard. They'd be back as part of Shepard's crew.
2.Kelly Chambers: She helps keep moral up and her staying would make more sense than her leaving. The only reason I don't see her coming back is because BW didn't want to make it work.
3.Rupert the chef:I'd see him either staying or leaving. Would anyone miss him if he was gone? I could see him being left out of ME3 just to simplify things.
Bioware is letting Garrus and Tali get a free pass while they had other things higher on there agenda than the ME2 Cast. Like the different types of Game Play options :Action, RPG, and Story along with Multiplayer. If anyone has any objections are sees any flaws in my reasoning please correct me and point them out. I may just make a new thread for this to explain it and gather a census

If it were me, I'd have *at least* Miranda and Legion. They were arguably the most plot-important ME2 squad members. Toss them in with the ME3 squad, maybe replace Tali, and we're GTG.
I like the six we got but I do think that 8 would have been a more ideal squad size. And if there were two slots left I think Miranda and Legion would be the best choices to fill them, for the reason you listed. Also both probably survived most peoples ME2 playthroughs.
I'd honestly rather have Miranda, since there's a glaring lack of Sentinels on the squad if Kaidan is dead (And people kill Kaidan far more than Ashley).
Come to think of it, there aren't any Vanguards on the ME3 squad, aren't there?
There is. Trust me biotics are covered well.
There's Liara, who's an adept, and Spoiler #1, who doesn't seem to have any Vanguard powers, just generic biotics.
Mystery man uno has reave, slam, and believe throw.
Yep. Generic biotics. None of them terribly useful, unless you're playing on higher difficulties or are experimenting.
Ever rock double reave? It's a magical thing.
No, Kaidan has Reave.

So now people are stuck with characters they don't like as much or flat out dislike or who simply have no relevance to the plot.
And I agree with you, having plot-related characters would be better than seeing unimportant characters like Garrus for the third time for an extendend period of time. And I really didn't need my ship as a squadmate either.
But we don't really know how it ends up in the game, maybe there are good reasons why someone can join us again while someone else is only there for one mission. Complaining now definitely won't help.

What? So, we are just supposed to back down and admit our defeat? No, we´ll fight to the end, because that´s what we HUMANS do.

Yep squad is uttelry awful, completely broken and has little variety.
It's funny, because most of the ME3 squadmates' powers and combat abilities can do a lot more than ME2's squad could.
Most of the squadmates' passive powers goes well with each other and adds more variety by being more customizable than ME2's squad, which I could have picked whoever I wanted from, because the moments where they helped were very rare and they often got themselves killed. In ME3, I died more often than the squadmates did and I had to almost compete with Garrus over the kills when I gave him a sniper rifle.
I'd say that Liara's Singularity alone outclasses like 90% of the ME2 squad's powers in terms of utility, because it has a more practical use this time. Same with Garrus' AP Ammo.

I want Thane, Legion and Grunt back. Hell I'm even taking Jacob instead of the two totally boring ladies I'm stuck with. Jack was whining a lot, but she was a fun character to be around. Kasumi had potential. Mordin was hilarious. Samara didn't liked me so it's for the best that she is gone-^.
Well, I guess I just don't have to bring those two along in my party. They can guard my ship while me and my buddies are out killing Reapers. With that I just want to say that I'm waiting to get my copy on ME3 in my hands so I can barricade me in the computerroom for 1-2 weeks.
See you all in outer space// Desh
