Is it still possible to holster weapons?

And all the arguments about not holstering in a war zone are, frankly, laughable. ME3 is not a pure FPS; Shepard does a lot more than just shoot at stuff then run back to the Normandy. So now when we select a console or other interactive object, we're supposed to just imagine that Shepard has holstered to manipulate it, I suppose -- or maybe just tucked it under the ol' armpit because it's "a forward area"? Or when we are in an enclosed space and all the Cerberus operatives are bleeding out on the floor, we have to search the place with our weapon drawn because "a soldier NEVER holsters in a battle zone"??? Uh-huh, sure.
So even though this is a very sophisticated RPG in many other respects, the game now controls yet another aspect of the game play that had previously been (very reasonably) a player option.

You realise Sony owns Blu Ray right? So Xbox WON'T have Blu Ray because Sony prefers it's OWN console to Microsoft's.

Especially in forward hold areas.. ie: during the 1st Taurian quest. Running around in the little secure area where there are no enemies with your gun drawn like an idiot is crazy. Just started the game myself, so I can imagine how many times this is going to happen. I have never heard of a 3rd person game that you can not holster your weapon
Please Bioware... figure out a way to add this pronto.

Please Bioware, if you do monitor these posts, release a patch if possible to holster your weapon. A small feature that adds so much to the gameplay experience for many of us. Thanks.

Brenon, could you bring more details into that? It's a RAM memory issue or disc-space file size issue? It's a problem exclusive to the demo or the full game too?
It's a runtime memory cost, not a disk space issue. You need those anims for the non-combat areas... so they're going to be on disk regardless.
In order to support exploration in the combat areas, you'd need to have all the anims loaded in memory... so that would be things like the 8-way walks, runs, incline anims, idles, idle twitches, male/female variant overrides, eye noise... etc.
All in all (iirc) it came out to around 2-4MB, which is relatively significant. Also, as you've guessed, yes - I'm referring to the main game (as well as the demo).
Why was this not an issue in ME1 and 2, but became one in 3? The only guess I could hazard is the additional memory required for the upgrades BW did to the Unreal engine making it something of a...."Well, we can have this giant Reaper marching around in the backround, or you can holster your weapon"?
That would be the only presumption I could make; since there is an AWFUL lot going on the in the backround now compared to the first two titles.

And as mentioned above, some areas it blatantly makes no sense not being able to holster your weapon.
A patch to fix this for PC users, or more likely player made fix is a must.

So I was also having an issue w/choppy game play, but since I'm running a 6 core processer I just went into the msconfig and switched my boot tab to utilise 6 processors and "poof" no more chop. I am wondering if this memory issue they speak of, pertaining to "Holstering weapon" was due to BioWare having to design the game for the slowest PC's. just a thought. Honestly I hate not being able to holster my weapon. BUT what a great story! BioWare has done an incredable job. I was totaly emotionaly invested and allready have one complet playthrough under my belt. I'm going to play thru ME2 again, just so I can make different choices and see how they play out. GREAT job BioWare. Now just fix the holstering thing.

Although I have recently landed on a certain Turian area mentioned earlier, and my Shepard is running around aiming her gun at everyone like a paranoid spastic, a happy medium might have been having Shepard point the gun at the gorund (as seen done automatically when facing certain objects) while in areas with no active combat.
But of cource, fixing the ability to holster your weapon again for PC will do the game a great service.
EDIT: Hell being able to toggle the aim-at-ground (which has idle/walk animations already present in the game) would have been fine...at least better than what's in the game now, Bioware, Y U NO...

Yeah, at least aiming the gun down when no enemy is around will make do. In many situations it extremely lowers the feeling I'm playing sophisticated space opera RPG. It kills the mood completely. Shepard with his gun aiming all the time like some stupid multiplayer bot. Then it looks like I'm playing some lower grade shooter. But this is Mass Effect. The pinnacle of RPG space opera, where every detail counts. And you are Bioware, the best RPG developer studio. Make Mass Effect 3 proud, make yourself proud, make your fans proud. Please deal with this awkward issue.Nauks wrote...
Yeah it can't be stressed enough, the story is amazingly well crafted so far.

Actually, Sony does not own exclusive rights to licensing of blu-ray technology. That's handled by the Blu-ray Disc Association.

It is 2012 now! not being able to even holster your weapon is seriously wrong, the same crap as with SWTOR with not being able to take your hood down. I keep saying it over and over again, the small details is what matters... Like in Skyrim they even got sheaths for their weapons. Seeing games without it now just makes me think they are lesser developers.
Sorry but something like this is just lazy and extreamly disappointing, At least we have a company like CDproject Red that actually add features to their games instead of removing stuff, and does not charge for dlc. The gaming inustry has gotten worse and worse over the years, I miss the old school Bioware.

Its called PS3 having f all memory and the other two platforms paying for it because developers dont like to differentiate their products.
Wouldnt it be better if they just played to the strengths of each platform!!

This right here is one of many reasons i decided to pirate this game. This is such a sloppy console port it's not even funny. Sorry to the console crowd, if it really is a hardware limitation -- but pissing on the PC crowd like this does not get you my $60.

Your a theif plain and simple. A theif.
People pirating games is why devs no longer care for us as a group of gamers.
