Just got the game. While its fun, I'm super disappointed by the lack of holstering. *sigh*, two steps forward, two steps back, the Bioware way.

Does Bioware actually read these forums? If so, yes Bioware, please reinstate the option to holster a weapon, at least as a patch for the PC if nothing else. I agree with the comment of immersion. An RPG is all about immersion in ones character and environment and I feel like I'm playing Gears of War instead of Mass Effect at times. Think of it this way. If there are any Skyrim players here, what would you think if you couldn't holster your weapon in that game? It would be terrible. Skyrim was all about immersion and is Mass Effect not intended to be anymore?

Please Bioware, if you do monitor these posts, release a patch if possible to holster your weapon. A small feature that adds so much to the gameplay experience for many of us. Thanks.

I think the statement regarding memory issues is false. Why was there no memory issues in ME1 and ME2? What has changed in ME3 that could potentially pose a problem to holster.......My guess is it is the KINECT feature! It most likely caused some sort of issues or bugs with kinect. There is no other logical explanation to taking out holstering

I'm disappointed by it too. It's such a small little thing that's borderline absurd we don't have it.

As we know Bioware, they won't add holster button. It would need some scripting. But what they can do in fact, is use relaxed stance with weapon aiming down. Like when facing a wall, person, or like squadmates do. That would extremely improve the real feeling of the game, maybe even more than hoster. Just set some timer that after eg. 15 seconds not firing and not in cover, Shepard stops aiming. This they can do.

So stupid not to have it. We could in ME2, I don't know why it isn't in ME3.

So in short, because people wanted different movements on males and females, they lost the holstering animation? Oh the irony. (I'm sure it's not even close to as simple as that, but you get what I mean)

People wanted some new things, the devs had to cut out others to make room for that, people complain anyway. I love BSN...

So now we wait for some sort of mod to holster weapon?

Or we stop whining and deal with it. It simply can't be in the console versions, then why even put it in the PC version, for a minority of the fanbase?

Look at your statement, play ME1 Eden Prime and then ME3 Intro (Demo for example) and then think about it. The game is more massive with a more dynamic background. Look at all the ships flying around and other stuff going on around you. And it's still running on the same unchanged console as ME1. You know what has changed? We have a more atmospheric scenery and the only thing that is missing is that I can't holster my weapon on a battlefield (what no soldier would do because it could mean his death). The only thing I'm missing is that you don't point your gun at the ground if you look at allies, which would be way more realistic than completely holstering the gun.

It was a issue for me also before I've played the game btw but after finishing it I haven't even recognized it was missing because there was no point where I would have holstered my weapon where it was not possible.

Runalak is probably the wisest person in this thread. He's got the right idea.
It's physically impossible to implement holstering, BECAUSE YOU HAVE A LOT OF OTHER STUFF YOU WANTED IN THE GAME, LIKE BETTER GRAPHICS.

Some people are a little ignorant :(

How are people ignorant because something that they've had through 2 games and hundreds of hours of play, is gone and they miss it?

Please explain to me how that makes one 'ignorant'.

I used the holster weapon key all the time in my playthroughs of Mass Effect 1 and 2. It's just something I like to have control of. It feels cool. Part of the reason I play games. It also means I can look at my character and see their cool gear. I can't do those things now.

I never asked for better graphics. I never asked for any changes. I loved Mass Effect. I loved ME2 even harder. And I always thought the graphics were brilliant. But before I even played ME3 I went to the config util and was surprised to find no 'holster weapon' key.

I for one really miss it. I really hope they put it back in. But I've been playing bioware games for years now so I'm not going to hold my breath. But I would happily pay $5 for a 'holster weapon' DLC. That's how much I liked having the extra control over my character.

Holstering a weapon in a combat zone for a soldier would be really, really dumb.

However, I don't see why it can't be like with our allies and have Shepard lower his gun until you press the L trigger, the R trigger, or encounter gunfire.

I readily concur with your sentiment Sxio. I've only played ME1 to date (holding off on playing 2 & 3 until I get a fancier rig) and I spent a ton of time panned out just ogling my armour, environment and Ashley's a-- uh, I mean Ashley's alien friends. Yeah...

I'm super sad that this feature has been omitted from the PC edition of ME3, as it added
immensely to the immersion factor and somehow felt like it expanded the scale of my adventure.
And my squad mates won't holster their weapons either? BioWare, you're breaking my heart. :crying:

If this isn't within the power of our developer gurus to alleviate then maybe as a community we could contract an independent dev through rent-a-coder to make this mod for us? I don't know much about how we'd go about this, but if there is someone out there who does then please tell us how! I'd donate $5 in a flash if we set up a fund.
[Disclaimer: I'm not sure if that bit I just posted contravenes some policy of what you can post - so please stay the ban hammer sir!]

BioWare, as PC RPG'ers you don't owe us anything.
We've been with you for a long time, we just want to keep it that way.

Anyone had luck tryng to mod the game to add the command to lower weapons...
Bioware won't change the game for a few minority you can bet on that... but maybe there's a way to make the "lower gun" command available at any moment

the way I see it is sure we lost the ability to holster, but we gained the ability to roll, cover hop, edge around corners in cover, increased melee options, ladders, jumping etc.

Adding new holstered animations for all that would have been to taxing on the consoles apparently, but considering all the things that we were given, I dont mind that holstering was sacrificed.

Having Shep automatically lower his weapon like he does when facing a wall or character during a non combative situation would have been nice tho.

That would at least be something. Though I think what those here are upset about is the fact that they can't have a wide visual pan in combat areas, and not so much that Shepard is playing lazertag with the walls.

As far as I can see, there's no chance to mod that. The command does not work, most likely because it was deactivated somewhere in the source code.

Also it probably wouldn't do any good if we could bring that back because afaik there aren't any anis for jumping, rolling etc. without a weapon.

Also There is nothing wrong in expressing your wants, needs, or even complaints in a constructive manner.  Peeps explained why they wanted the holster function. No need  for insults or name calling.
For me having the weapon holster meant I could spin the camera around and take some screenshots. I could take a moment and look at my surroundings in a bigger view. Yea we got the roll, automated jump, and edge around the corners. But would have like the holster weapon function still because it was used in ME1 and ME2.

Exactly. ^_^I think some people might benefit from googling "forum" and reading up a bit about it's origin.

Back on topic, I'd be more enthused by BioWare releasing a patch for this than I would be for any forthcoming DLC - and yeah I do have all the PC DLC for the series in case you thought I was a DLC objectionist.

Ok, I just posted a thread about this, but it disappeared kinda quickly:

http://social.biowar...10490564-1.html

Here are the key points I made:

"I notice that you can alter a savegame using Gibbed's (beta) savegame
editor to change the raw value IsCombatPawn (or bCombatPawn?) to false
-- then when you load the save in Mass Effect 3, you will be walking
around in normal exploration mode if you had saved on a combat level.

"This
is NOT useful in itself (it's just an observation), since you can't get
back into combat mode without saving and exiting the game and changing
it back to true.

I'd be interested in someone figuring out how to make this practical...

Thanks for that jagdwarf, hopefully you've started someone off on the right path.
Not that I know much (okay nothing) about this, but would it be possible to use the ME2 animations to holster your weapons in ME3? I heard this mentioned but can't say where...
Now all we need is someone with a little know-how.:wizard:

Its not so much the holstering as the HAVING to have one on my characters in MP and SP that dont use one. Hell my biotic does infinitely more damage than any gun they ever carry.

It was replaced by the quick save which I find a hell of a lot more useful. I don't miss holstering one damn bit.

The holster problem I can understand on the Xbox360 and PS3 with their limited memory.
But come on! on the PC too??? most people have machines like beasts and could easily load those few extra animations....
