BioWare HAS confirmed on these forums that there IS a trial....it was Mr. Priestly I believe if I remember correctly that has posted this.

There isn't any conclusive evidence that the demo intro is the game intro.

It would make sense if it was, minus some parts. They wouldnt make an entirely separate demo that has nothing to do with the game, and they would not put the demo in the middle where it would be hard to omit spoilers. It is most likely the beginning.

Ironically the Dead Space 2 Demo is actually set in Chapter five out of fifteen chapters, not the beginning.  However, I think the demo follows what the beta intro was too, so.

From my perspective the demo would be fine, but I see why someone not familiar or someone waiting on explanations would be arise.  However, this is what happens when you allow your IP to be written off into Comics and Novels.

players of the demo, professional reviewers - everyone has said the same thing: "the intro feels rushed and confusing."

i fail to believe that BioWare wouldn't catch how poorly paced the intro is. i just can't bring myself to believe it - but the leaked demo AND the official demo all start at the same place - and no dev confirmation of a trial (or anything) before the demo start point leaves us with only one conclusion:

where the demo starts is where the game starts. good luck to new players because they are gonna be so confused, and a wasted opportunity for import-players to refresh their choices.

And here we go again, someone mistaking their opinion with fact. Everyone huh? IF this is the actual beginning, I love it. Adore it. Want the rest of the game. I'm excited. Stoked. You're entitled to your opinion, but don't start off your thread trying to make an impression that the feeling is a universal "it sucks".  You couldn't possibly be more wrong.

That trial could be the hearing we see right before the Reapers attack.  It would be an extremely crappy interpretation but a possibly correct one.

@incinerator950 Yes at times they do but I've been around long enough to know when they are missinforming and Mr. Priestly hasn't blatantly and deliberately lied, he'll just make ambiguous and vague statements that can easily make you jump to the wrong assumption but when he says something clearly and directly it's generally the truth.

@AlphaJarmel yes....if there is a hearing that could be it but I haven't seen the demo intro yet and I likely won't until the 17th or 18th....life and all getting in the way.

Honestly I don't care, new people to the game series are either picking this up to play a fun shooter or to bang Jessica Chobot.

People who are following the series know what is happening and that's all that matters.

I'm fully approving of the "screw new players" sentiment....if they want to know they better back up and start with ME1.

I'm telling you guys, I remember a dev tweeting that there wasn't going to be a trial. Check the twitter thread it's bound to be in there. I know what I saw.

Well If that's true I guess the hearing is it....at any rate I saw someone mentioned they didn't know how Vega met Shep.....you might want to google an awesome and free little 8 page comic called Mass Effect: Conviction.

I'm thinking they are trying to leave things as ambiguous as possible as to not risk anymore spoilers. Not to mention said trial could have numerous variations based on what career your Sheperd has had.
Get a gist of the intro of the game, and then a taste of the Salarian homeworld mission and leave you hungry for the real, whole game.

Just my 2 cents.

The thing is, the beginning as seen in the demo and that leaked footage from late last year definitely seems structured as an opening and very much feels like one. You couldn't have much more than that or it would be too long for an opening, given when the logo appears. For an intro it seems about the right length, but the problem is that it's not particularly well handled given that it's the third part and feels rushed.

I know a lot of this is probably due to expectations given early dev comments such as those in the GameInformer magazine early last year, and that because of that a lot of us were expecting an actual, proper trial to at least begin and perhaps reflect some of our Shepard's decisions and past deeds, etc.. As it stands it definitely does feel rushed, isolated and that not enough questions are answered. Why does Shepard know Vega to some degree already? Where are Garrus, Tali, etc. if we still had them at the end of ME2? What's the story for those of us who made Anderson Councilor? (ie. is there at least an explanation from him for it to fit that he no longer is somewhere?). On top of it all, it seems to just get to The Reapers landing far too quickly and doesn't really get to establish anything; it's just, "Bam! In there! GO!". The overall lack of any non-automated dialogue is a concern as well.

unless i'm missing something in my demo, we're all lacking a starting comic that bioware has said they will include for all new players

i think narrative wise the into will be less jarring / confusing with said inclusion assuming it's the same quality as the PS3 comic for ME2 that I saw. if u're a returning player and finds the intro confusing then i dont have any comment

Its excluded from the demo for space concerns.

BioWare never said there would be a comic this time.

Chris is the devs' facial orifice. He says things they want to.

Anderson said in the demo: "Any other soldier would have been tried, court martial, and discharged." That implies that there was no trial. The Alliance brass merely grounded Shepard.

This demo was with a "new-player profile" people...

Shepard and Anderson would've talked about the Batarian deaths otherwise.

I suppose what I really found most jarring was this implied gap in time and the cordial way he greets Vega. For the first time ever since Shepard walked towards the cockpit of the SR1, it seemed like I'd completely lost control of Shepard. I felt quite helpless there when this canonically unknown character entered the room, as if I really should've be saying is "Who the **** are you?"

Image IPB   Not a nice feeling for someone who takes their role-playing pretty seriously.

I think people are confusing the word "rushed" with the concept of "fast paced".

The demo is slick, polished, fantastic. Dialogue choices are removed to streamline the experience and get new players interested without talking their ears off with too much 'blah blah blah'. Returning players see some favorites and enjoy revamped powersets and a faster, stronger Shepard.

It's face paced, frantic action. The world's coming to an end.

If this was a game about an earthquake ripping apart a city, or a hurricane destroying a town, would people still say it's "rushed"?

Reapers wouldn't hang around in orbit because one small insignificant human being can't figure out how to run around with a pistol. They're here to wipe out all life, they're not going to wait. Shepard better get moving, there's a whole galaxy to save!
