So I wonder. In 2,5 to 3 years people get promoted pretty fast.

Kadian gets promoted from Staff Lieutenant, 3 ranks to Major.

Ash is even better going from the NCO rank Gunnery Chief, 5 ranks up to Lieutenant Commander, some rank as Shep.

I know i know but got nothing better to do at the moment and yes I know the alliance millitary is not the US Navy/USMC.

p.s.: Worst example of this is  the new awful so called "star trek" movie where 3 year cadet Kirk get promoted to Captain.

Since you first mentioned it, I feel quite within my rights to say:

It's "nit-picking."

Promotion is likely based on merit and not time served, being part of the team that took down Saren, not to mention being a Spectre, is likely going to count towards that.

Ash jumps from LT in ME2, to LT Commander in ME3. Four ranks. One year. That would not happen, ever. Yes it's nit picky, but it's also dumb as hell. VS doesn't need to be shoehorned into importance. They already get spectre status.

LT commander isn't the same rank as Commander, learn your Navy ranks.

Shepard is a LT Commander, and Alliance ranks are diferent from Navy ranks.

Its the future, man. If it helps, Shepard could have demolished the Citadel economy with all the cash s/he racked up in ME1.

So how come Shepard doesn't get a promotion? T_T

And Shepard still is not a Captain.  It's pretty surreal.

Maybe the alliance wants all their Spectres to be Lt. Commanders at minimum...

The PC getting money is gameplay, that's different.

Op Shepard is Commander and Captain of the SR 2 in ME 3 . Kaiden is and never will be above Shepard.

Spectre status means nothing on a Alliance star ship . Shepard is in charge not Kaiden

It's actually worse then that. In ME2, she is refererd to as an Operations Chief, which seems to be a senior NCO rank.

So she earned her commision as a Lieutentant. and then shot all the way up to Lieutenant Commander.

It would be nice to have some other ranks. ME has just about reached lt. carrying capacity.

Yes he is . he is the commanding officer of the SR 2 as well Commander . that makes him the Captain of the ship

Yeah, I don't know what people are talking about. Kaidan outranks Shepard. I wonder if there is going to be some friction there.

He is neither of those things. He is suspended from duty. He has no assigment at all.

Shepard has seniority and command of the mission, superseding rank over Kaidan and Ashley. Just like when Master Chief had command over an NCO as his mission superseded importance and had backing by higher ranks.

@iz

Did you play the demo?  He is reinstated in the military by an Admiral as well as given an assignment, in the constraints of the situation, that is about as official as it gets.

In traditional role and skipper duty.  He is still a Lieutenant Commander.

'Commander' is iconic, I guess.

The next rank up is Captain.

It's sort of a retcon. They clearly wanted Ashley to be an officer of some sort, but in the previous games she was always an NCO.

Shepard isn't promoted as he left alliance in ME2 to work for cerberus and as such, when he is re instated into alliance, they aint gunna promote him, even if he did stop collectors. As for ME1 promotion for stopping saren and doing all those N7 missions, they didn't get around to promoting him as he was out fighting geth, they never had the chance to promote him.
