Yes.

I guess it's fair to say that the Grissom Academy would be about a year as well.

And I doubt the concept of a brevet promotion would exist in the ME universe.

Do we know how someone joins the Quarian Admiralty Board? Is it really military, or can you be appointed or elected to it?

It's not hereditary, it seems to be voted, but all of the members known are senior members over Captains.

No Brevet Major rank, also a Major is the equivilant of an Alliance Navy Captain.  I can post the Alliance Rank structure from the codex, but you already read it.  Night.

Not sure you know what a Brevet is, so we'll just leave that alone.

Temp status of whatever rank follows. You are holding that rank for the duration of whatever conflict you are involved in.

It still happens today but is very rare. Mostly takes place when they want to promote an individual who has yet to reach the effective date of promotion.

All ranks have a set minimum time of service before you can be promoted. Breveting someone skips this process.

Kaiden and Ash being promoted isn't whats odd, more so when you compare it to real life which we shouldn't really do, least not that literally.

Shepard, on the other hand, not raising in rank AT ALL after dealing with Saren? Also people being promoted in rank 'after death' on duty does happen. Its some weird honor thing and all that. The fact Shepard isn't a higher rank in ME2, and then promoted again after death (or doesn't get the due promotion due to death) is kinda awkward.

Everything related to Shepard and the Alliance is a tad awkward actually. Ashley had a lot of back promotion due to how they handled her, both her and Kaiden rightly deserve there promotions and current rank.

The big mistake with Ash there was calling her an NCO in ME2.

Shepard will never, ever get a promotion, in game anyway. Just like John (Master Chief) will never, ever get a promotion. They both deserve it, but at this point, it's iconic. Also, I'm pretty sure about 80% of the Halo fanbase doesn't know Johns' name.

She was a chief, and jumped two enlisted ranks to Operations chief.  That seems very reasonable for two years and exemplary service.

No, she was still an NCO in ME2. Operations Chief is the last rank for NCOs in the Alliance Navy/Marines, I think. It'd be equal to Sergeant Major, Master Gunnery Sergeant, Master Chief Petty Officer, and Chief Master Sergeant.

I now have a firmly established head-canon.

No, from the information seen, they're in their positions solid.

John would have to get a huge promotion because it would be down-right insulting to commission him as an Ensign.

Hence why I said that I doubt brevetting exists in ME.

You said the mistake was calling Ash an NCO in ME2. I might have misinterpreted what you meant.

Ash/Kaiden proved they can survive in impossible situations... like a Spectre candidate. The least they could do is promote them to a level indicative of that.

Maybe it's because it's 4:30AM here...but I am so confused by what you are saying. How is it their mistake? They got it right...

I'm not following, she was an NCO in ME 1, and still an NCO in ME 2.  She just received a few promotions.

What I am saying is that if she recieved a battlefield promotion after the Battle of the Citadel, then this whole things becomes less crazy. All BW has to do call her Lieutenant Williams in ME2. But they don't. So she gets back from Horizon, is immediatly commisioned as an officer, and then jumps all the way to Lieutenant Commander in a few months.

So I wonder. In 2,5 to 3 years people get promoted pretty fast.

Kadian gets promoted from Staff Lieutenant, 3 ranks to Major.

Ash is even better going from the NCO rank Gunnery Chief, 5 ranks up to Lieutenant Commander, some rank as Shep.

I know i know but got nothing better to do at the moment and yes I know the alliance millitary is not the US Navy/USMC.

p.s.: Worst example of this is  the new awful so called "star trek" movie where 3 year cadet Kirk get promoted to Captain.

Ash is same rank? I'm pretty sure Shep is Staff Commander

From whence does this information come? Again, after working with a terrorist group and then blowing up 300,000 Batarins, did he recieve a promotion?

THAT is the question.

It seems to me it is more political in nature.
Also what is the differents between civilians & millitary personal in the flotillia?

At this point we can just use plot device like every other thing we can't explain.
