ME lore states that, thanks to improvements in medicine, living standards, diet, technology, and in the case of Alliance personnel and those who can afford it, genetic modification, everyone looks younger and healthier, with the vast majority of people in their 50's/60's barely looking 30 by today's standards.

So really, being pissed of about Femshep looking as young as she actually should look, while so many other characters look far older than they should be, is really getting the argument arse about face.

First: On the off chance that you are the Total Bisquit: I like your videos (..although I've only seen a few).

Not to burst anyone's bubbles, but turning 40 and looking like that isn't natural. Yeah, plastical surgery, tons of makeup or simply retouched picture.

Edit - Shepard wouldn't have time to fight the reapers if she had to do an 8 hour beauty regime everyday.

if she was a celebrity (which i would assume she is or at least celebrites would do this), its not like she does this everyday

I read that she does that everyday, someone put a link to her site on another thread like this.

I'm 28 and I still get ID, several times just for trying to buy an 18 certificate game, but I'm not trying to save the galaxy. So it's not that I don't believe older people can't look young, I just think that Shepard with all that stress shouldn't look as young as she does, especially when othercharacters don't look as young.

She does look older in-game than official artwork, so I'm not that fuss about it anymore.

well i'm in the military (6+ years) and been under extreme stress (2 tours in Iraq 1 in Afghanistan) and i still look really young

Back to the topic, this setting does take place in the future. I'm not surprised to see that 30 year olds in the future don't look like 30 now a day.

Either way: I'll grant you the point, technically, but will not accept it as an argument, until they retcon the appearance of John Shepard, who is the same person in everything but gender, to the same state.

At the end of the day, the power of demographics are at work here and it's not only about pandering to the libido of young guys either -- as culture goes, a majority of female gamers are likely to prefer stepping into the role of a young and beautiful heroine, over one that is old and perhaps plain, whereas a fellow gets to be a bit rough and grizzled, which is an element of their definition of handsome.
Is this a bad thing?  -Everyone will have their own answer.

I would have preferred the default Jane Shepard to look older like John Shepard does but that's the way it is.

Femshep not so much ...

 But if I were ever to use the default Jane I would just RP that she was a direct descendent of Audie Murphy the most decorated man of WWII ... works for me.

Perhaps femShep has availed herself of the youthfulness enhancing cosmetic procedures available in the MEverse and mShep hasn't.

FemShep does not look 16 at all... She looks like a lighter framed 20something, which is pretty much how I originally pictured her for my edits. 5'6" mostly renegade former gangbanger straight off the streets redhead bad^^^ femShep. :-)

She looks a little glossy, but great.

edit: If anything at all makes her look a little younger, other than that screencap's expression, her eyes might be just slightly, slighty large for her face, but that seems to be part of the west's cultural language for female characters.

Meh I'm pushing thirty and everyone I'm friends with demands I keep my goatee... Why? Cos when I shave it off I look 18 ;; I get asked for ID buying cigs or to get into nightclubs.

Some people just look naturally young regardless. Women also have the power of make up... If femshep went without makeup I'm sure she'd look near 90 years old. Weird thing really, but I find girls who don't hide behind make up from a young age tend to age more gracefully, make up seriously ruins their skin in the short and long term imo.
