Council choose Kaidan because he is competent..and not a whiner.

All this Shep-is-bigger-than-life vibe is getting on my nerves.

I guess you will want to play ME3 using Ashley or Kaidan as the lead character. Of course Shepard is larger-than-life.  He/she is the hero..in case u didn't notice.

Useless strawman is useless.
It doesnt' matter if he's the hero. There's plenty of Heros who don't have the messiah complex Sheaprd has.

And don't even start about Ashley. She talks about other species like they are animals...willing to go to any lengths to uplift her family's pride...a lost cause.

You silly man.
If you saw an Elcor on a remote planet, you would consider it an animal too. Because it DOES look like some space cow. It's ALIEN. Of course some will look like animals to us!

And yes, they are competent.

The VS are garbage compared to Liara , Wrex and Garrus .

TBH, I still wonder why people still overreact to the Horizon situation.
That whole scene was badly written, on both ends, and yet there are those who rage so much about one side of
It.

I mean seriously - "It's been a long time, how have you been?" (paraphrased)
Who the hell would say that after two years of being declared dead?

Let me put it this way no matter what the alliance says or Ash or Kaidan says, i'd rather give command of the normandy to joker and edi. Oh wait joker and edi are the commanders of the normandy because you can't go where you want to go unless joker says okay, the same can be said of edi.I also doubt that edi and joker would accept Ash and kaidans command.

@at ares

I would say the same thing and 5 of my friends agree with me on this, that shepard was fine but the vs was not.

And I don't really get why would the Council choose a racist like Ashley Williams or a Whiner like Kaiden Alencko to become Spectres. Just fantacizing here guys, no need to get worked up about it.

Good grief! not again, Ashley is xenophobic, learn the difference, and yes there is a difference, and no, I'm not an Ashley fan.

thanks man. At least someone sees the world as it is. Right...Ashley is an outright xenophobe. And she is also soooooo competent ;)....as her intro in ME1 gives us a very accurate picture about her competence...Running like chicken from the geth...I've always thought her as a soldier who fled the battlefield to let her squad die.

Oh, so that's why she had no problem agreeing to take on more geth with only two others at her side, yeah, that makes sense <_<

I know it is badly written on both ends (well the entire situation is, ingeneral, really)

my point is merely that it is a very binary situation, the whole "shades of gray" argument some people propose is merely a crutch. Ultimately the VS (Ashley in my case) has a simple situation "given all I know about Shepard from my past and given what I have infront of my eyes do I trust shepard or do I not?" She chse NOT to trust shepard and to run back to the alliance crying foul when I showed up to her after
1: Getting reinstated as a spectre....yeah, still an agent of the council
2: Getting Anderson's personal blessing and protection from the alliance
3: Getting Hackett to cover my back (according to the LOTSB records)
4: Showing up with a Salarian ex STG and Garrus on Horizon

it does not even matter what her thought process was, ultimately she made a simple choice, not to trust Shepard. Given all that we have been through and how the Alliance ruined shepard's reputation calling him pretty much crazy that REALLY bothered me. If she refused to come along but her reaction had been different  (like "Shepard, I believe you, I worry about your alliances right now but I know you will do the right thing. I am still an alliance Marine, I have orders to follow and now a colony to rebuild...I am sorry I cannot come with you) I would have been 100% ok with it......but it was not.

so.......untill I can thoroughly call her on her utter crap and/or she retracts it and recognizes her BS she is blacklisted. I have no need for someone who is THAT blind

Some peoples' opinions on Ashley seem VERY random. I've been shaking my head at CerberusSoldier and Vikxx for a while.

I'm guessing you've never heard the "I want to believe you Shepard, but I don't trust Cerberus" line.

She did have a lot of problems. She was just afraid she would have to face court martial if Shepard found that she was fleeing from her duty. So she reluctantly agreed to assist.;)

I have......I have also heard "you betrayed everything we stood for"

and "Cerberus might be behind the disapperances and is manipulating you"

that is not saying "I trust you will do the right thing"

sorry but that is too meger of a consolation

also I am not being random

@crimzontearz

That is a large part of why I say the scene was badly written.
In the end, it was just a plot point to save them for ME3. The problem is; BW could have done a much better job at it.

So I blame the writers more than the characters on this one.

ETA: IIRC, the VS was sent to Horizon before Shepard spoke with Anderson (and possibly reinstated).

A coward does not say "Time for payback"; they are more likely to make excuses why they cannot remain to fight, and Ashley's character has always struck me as the type who would turn themselves in to face the music in rather than go on the run, don't mistake this as me letting her off, her whole unit died and that does need questioning, was it her judgement call that caused their deaths or was it bad intel.

Yeah, Ashley never striked me as a coward. She even stands up for Wrex and shoots him if needed, she doesn't whine about being left behind to die by the nuke either.

Do you remember Virmire? Where Ashley shot Wrex if u hadn't completed Wrex's family armor assignment?Apparently Ashley shot Wrex even without Shepard prompting her. And the look on her face...repetitive shots on the back of Wrex's skull...the mock emphasis on the word 'Not today friend!' all point towards her t being an Alien hater...which, given the variety of species in the galaxy makes her a Xenophobic.
I don't want a person like that in my squad.

Huh no, she was doing her job protecting her commanding officer, she did precisely what Shepard ordered her to do "Be ready"

Thats fair....but she would not relish it so much if she was just following orders. She also really wanted to do it anyway. Shepard told her to be ready in front of Kaidan...yet when Ashley shoots Wrex(without the signal from Shepard) kaidan comes forward looking baffled and asks what happened? clearly that was not Kaidan's or my idea of readiness.

Taking the initiative to protect her commanding officer, it's the same thing, she was doing her job as a soldier.
