Yeah up until now people have been content to just let Shepard be Shepard, however given that Shepard being Shepard destroyed an entire solar system the powers that be might want to put a bit more restraint on him/her.
Oh please the alliance needs Shepard so badly its not even funny and Anderson even says in the demo he wants you to do what you do in other words get the job done no matter what
Yes they need him/her but they also need there to be something left when all is said and done. Like I said it makes sense for the powers that be in universe to want to reign Shepard in a bit. Not so much that s/he can't do their job, but enough that Bahak (sp?) doesn't happen again.

And don't even start about Ashley. She talks about other species like they are animals...
Yes because the aliens have shown humanity such courtesy in the past. You know how they all but forced us into conflict with the Batarians to further their own agenda, how they'll only allow us to colonize systems that provide a buffer between them and the Terminus, and sitting on their hands when a mutual enemy goes on the offensive in space they claim to control. Yes the aliens have been just pampering us haven't they.
Ash see's the aliens and their motives for what they are, selfish just like us. She acknowledges that if it comes down to us or them they are never going to pick us.

willing to go to any lengths to uplift her family's pride...a lost cause.
Yes how dare she try to redeem her family name that has been tarnished simply because her grandfather felt that protecting his people was more important than fighting a battle he couldn't hope to win. How dare her grandfather allow the Alliance's ego to be bruised.

still wonder why people strenuously defend the VS' temper tantrums
Fondness for the characters mostly.

The VS are garbage and I have no use for either one I saved Kaiden cause he is half way understanding then in ME 2 he calls my shepard a traitor how dare that worthless piece of scum do that . I want to murder his ass in ME 3 and if I get the chance I will .
You are voluntarily working alongside the enemy and you aren't part of either an undercover operation or temporary alliance. I think that's almost textbook traitor. I know we don't like to admit it but in ME2 Shepard is at best a hired gun and at worst a traitor and a criminal.

I wouldnot mind taking orders from them if their characters were like that of Garrus or Liarra.
Overly emotional and not particularly bright? I'd say that fits with the VS characterization in ME2.
