Shepard still outranks Ashley

Shepard and Ashley are both Lt. Commanders.  Kaiden is a Major, and technically outranks Shepard.

Wrong  Lt-commander and a Major are both Officer  4's

It isn't a matter of rank, Normandy is assigned to Shepard, even if Ashley was his superior as long as Normandy was assigned to Shepard he is in Command of his ship.

OFFICERS

  • 2nd Lieutenant
  • 1st Lieutenant
  • Staff Lieutenant
  • Lieutenant Commander
  • Staff Commander
  • Captain/Major
  • Rear Admiral/General
  • Admiral
  • Fleet Admiral
Taken from the codex pal.  Try not to forget that the Alliance Military has a different rank structure.

Anderson ordered Shep to take the Normandy. Also, technically the OTHER VS, Kaidan, outranks Shepard. But since an Admiral gave the orders, Shepard's in charge. No worrying about being taken around the galaxy at the whim of your squadmates, brah.

This ain't the US military. Which is a shame, because the US military's hierarchy makes more sense.

Kaidan has enough respect not to step over Shepard.  Also, Kaidan is in Command of the 1st Biotics Operations Company, or something.

Lieutenant Command is the same as Major

I am sure Kaiden is not ranked as navy but as soldier.

Ash is not in command....if I had to guess she represents the council's misstrust of shep....basically a spy. I fear she may make things difficult when shep rejoins the illusive man's cause....we may need to have the airlock ready in case she becomes a problem.

Please re-read my ealier post, I'm not re-quoting myself on Alliance Military structure NOT being a copy and paste of the US military.

I don't care, as long people don't think Major is higher then LT.Cmdr

But it is.

The Systems Alliance military pay grade system may be stupid, but it is canonical.

They are both Spectres and Lt Commanders in the Alliance. Shepard however has Ashley beat on both time in grade (how long he has held the rank) and time in service. That makes Shepard the superior officer. If two people are the same rank the person who is senior is determined first by time in grade, and if by some chance they were promoted on the same day, then time in service. (how long they've been in the military)

Holycrap, why couldn't Anderson just promote Shepard? Besides, I'm sure it'll go same way as it happened with Alistair.

Kaidan and Ashley respect Shepard too much to steal his/hers ship and especially with Reapers attacking entire galaxy, they should let Shepard to have command.

I bet that is a typo in the codex. I have yet to see Kaiden do anything deserving of jumping 4 officer ranks in two years... Also I wonder if Shep is still a LT Commander of if he was promoted to full Commander when they gave him the normandy in ME1. I have never heard of a LT Commander being in command of a frigate.

Take this hint: The main menu in Mass Effect 2 shows your personnel station aboard the Normandy. Now look at ME3, it is still your personnel station but look in the background, it looks more like the room from the intro cinematic. Either Shephard is assigned to a large frigate somewhere in ME3 because Normandy gets destroyed or the frigate is Shephards home.

If it works like real world militaries Anderson can only recommend Shepard for promotion. The recommendation would then go before a promotion selection board made up of other officers.

Anderson says Staff Commander Alenko and Operations Chief Williams in ME 2.  Inconsistency in the codex is obvious,
but Anderson saying it is more important than the codex.

Hm, too true. But I'm sure that it's crisis, he doesn't have time for that (well the comities got blown to hell already), so I don't see why he can't give him temporary powers.

I have a hard time believing that he wouldn't just frock Shepard anyway, or brevet Shepard a more appropriate grade, especially considering the circumstances.

Not unless she's undead in my game. I'm pretty sure the crew will think Shepard has more authority than a corpse.
