Anyone Else really excited about the pen and paper version... I am, just wondering what others think, and is there a release date?

I don't know about excited. I haven't played PnP rpgs since the early 80's. But...I will probably get it. I really enjoy the world the writers have come up with, and would like to read more about the background, which I am assuming there will be quite a bit of in the gamebook and whatever modules/expansions are published,

I read that the system is going to be unlike that in the game. I question the wisdom of that if the rumor is true, but I guess we'll find out.

I'm looking forward to it. I've already been babbling about the game non-stop to my tabletop RPG group for weeks, so I've got people who are interested when it actually arrives. I'm a big fan of Green Ronin's work already. We'd actually need to take a break from my Mutants and Masterminds campaign in order for me to run a session or two of Dragon Age
.
I wouldn't be running a full campaign right away, but I do have lots of ideas.

I haven't yet, but I read a couple of really good reviews, that they were far above and beyond the standard "book from a game", and were very enjoyable reads on their own. I'm planning on picking one up this week. Thanks for the tip!

So what is the extent of Bioware's involvement here? Active contributors? Lore consultants? Just strictly IP management?

I don't know ... I probably won't get it ...
I am a RPG veteran, having played almost everything from (A)D&D to Vampire, GURPS and DSA.
Now, if the PnP version of DA:O is similar to the rules system used in the game (which we must assume), it's not suited for a PnP game.
Also, just 64 pages per rules book is ... slim, to put it nicely. I always said that the complex PnP rulest of e.g. D&D (or DSA in case of Drakensang) is not suited for a CRPG - same is true the other way round.
Also, character development in DA:O is quite limited - if you're really into playing PnP RPGs, you won't be happy - ultimately, you *want* more options in such a game.
Last but not least, the kingdom of Ferelden is too small - why not use the already rich and vast areas of available worlds?
So ... I highly doubt that DA:O will be a PnP game worth its while. It seems to me, it's aimed at new players who'd like to start without a rulest thousands of pages strong (of course, new players don't know that they wouldn't have to use all the rules (of large-scale games) right away ... but it's good to know that they're there
) - so I'm not the target group

I'll be getting it, and running a Dragon Age campaign. I'm looking forward to it.
