Yeah, I decided to play through on Hard and am enjoying but still debating about switching up to Nightmare for a real challenge. Not sure though,

The increase in combat length of Hard is nice when you start breezing through.

Go watch a movie or read a book instead and quit turning gaming into mindless suck. It's bad enough Bioware had to release a patch making the easy setting even more easy for people unable or unwilling to learn something but instead want to be rewarded for participating.
I bet all of you saying such things were picked last in the rare chance you actually had to compete in a game against anyone where everyone couldn't be a winner.

I'm starting my Nightmare playthrough at the end of the semester. Dwarf noble!

I dont play the game for the battles but for the story.
Little point for me in setting the difficulty at anything but easy.
Unless if there were a "cakewalk" difficulty below "easy", then I'd have used that.

Much like the earlier poster, what's the reason for posting this? Does it make you feel better about yourself to belittle someone else who prefers a more laid-back gaming experience? It's not like it's impeding your ability to play the game.

I just started my second playthrough on hard, my first being on normal. I find it easier now than I did the first team despite the difficulty increase because I know what everyone's abilties and spells do, I'm better at tactics, etc. I even had 2 mages last time around and now only 1.
So yes, it is definately more satisfying!
I'm only level 8 atm, being half way through Redcliffe though, so -you know what- will probably pwn me at the entrance of -you know where- and it will probably get a lot tougher but I'm enjoying my Rogue archer with dex hotfix.
I'm in the same boat. I played on Normal on my first play through and found it extremely difficult at first. There were actually a couple of battles where I turned it down to Easy just to get past them - after half a dozen or more attempts. The first time I turned it down to Easy I probably spent at LEAST a dozen attempts before giving in. And now playing through again on Hard, fights that I got stuck on while playing Normal I now breeze through. It's just a matter of learning abilities, and how to maximize the effect of your crowd control options.
If you're in a fight of 4+ enemies, if you're not stunning/freezing/trapping (and don't forget pausing/queing!), you're going to have a much harder time. If you're not used to this sort of play style (I wasn't) on your first play through, Normal should provide plenty of challenge and still remain fun. Once you've beaten the game though, I highly recommend playing through again with a different Origin, roleplay style, and party on Hard mode. This way you get to experience the story in a different way, and also get a more satisfying combat experience.

Maybe you need to get a real life outside your basement-based achievement hunt so you are able to understand what he is talking about. Sorry, couldnt resist. Also I agree with him.
I am a very competetive gamer, quite active MMO gamer for years and I am satisfied only when I can attribute myself perfect gameplay - but against computer controlled AI ... no way. There is no sense of achievement for me, the game does not become more satisfying and rewarding because I won against my PC.
It is lame and boring and honestly, wasting my time when I have to keep reloading over and over until I get it right.
On the rare occassions when I play single player games I just enjoy the ride, I am not looking for a challenge, I want to enjoy great storylines, shiny graphics or exciting gameplay.
I think a lot of players are not interested in "hard mode" gaming unless competing with real human players.
If you cant understand that and have to label them as insecure grass holes I feel nothing but pity for you.
That being said - playing the game on normal has been great for me, some fights like the Dragons are rewarding enough on normal.

As of now I'm still playing through my first time on hard, but I'm planning on trying nightmare my second time through. I really enjoy difficult games. I have since I was a little kid. Puzzles and math equations always piqued my interest, and I love that this game rewards smart gameplay.
I've always been competitive. I see playing against the AI as playing against the game developers. It isn't quite as satisfying as playing against live people, but I still get a sense of achievement from it.

Well, Nightmare is even more satisfying. And with my Dex Rogue main I'm finding it more enjoyable then a Mage main on hard. I'm also reloading much less. I guess the fact that I'm making Alistair Dex based also helps as well.

For nightmare, my biggest worry is that I will need to many consumable items to survive and that might mean that I slowly will run out. Any of the longer multi-part quests might get me in too deep...

The game has been challenging (especially at the beginning before I learn to use all the nice spell combos).
Boss battles are great and sometimes I've got to reload more than once (even becuase I reload every time a characther "die" in battle: I want to win without any death). Some battles were really difficult and interesting.
Mob fights are great at the beginning but going forward with the plot it seems that you fight the same enemy over and over again... I don't know if it's a problem based on the scaling system, if it's the bestiary that is too little or if it's a false impression based on my ignorance of game mechanics/game rules/talents and spell... I only know that 90% of the time I face mobs I have to use the same strategy and the same spells/talents in the same order.
But I admit that even in BG I played in the same manner at the end... only that enemies were more different in the various encounters so you've got to use different strategies for different encounter and combat was not that quick so you've got more time to build your strategy.
Sorry if I've gone a little bit OT. I would like to ask something to the various person who are playing on hard or nightmare: are you using the tactic screen? Or do you micromanage like me?

I basically have some of the constantly on talents in the tactics so they get "recast" if they drop off and then some potion related ones and my mage has automatic heal on allies.

I completed on Normal and I am now doing it in Hard mode, its fun and also gives me a chance to change the outcome.
As was stated previously, the difficulty setting is a personal choice, and not a competition.

I find real life challenging enough, wife, kids, work and I dont need a game to create a challenge in my life, so I just like it to take it easy, enjoy the dialogue, feel the atmosphere and immersion ... much like reading a book or watching a movie, the difference is that I am actually controlling a character and making some choices.
But I am glad you are having a good time with your game on hard, its what its all about ... everyone getting their entertainment value for the money.
Congratulations. You are officially insecure **** #498. Want a cookie? I just love people that try to phrase remarks like that in a 'serious' manner to pretend they aren't just utter ****s.

Isn't that a little harsh? He sounded pretty sincere to me and frankly I can sympathize with him.
Of course, the over-the-top response was even more defensive.
I guess you did not understand him correctly.I am exactly like him.I play the game for the atmosphere .. the story and to some degree the combat. The Ai act exactly the same on all difficulties. They simply do more dmg and you do less damage. Some people like it some don't .. The game 's very lenghty so i don't see the point(Or my point) of increasing it with the difficulty setting. The only thing really increasing it's time invested setting the tactic option and how much time it's take to kill a monster. You're not a genius because you can beat the game on nightmare .
If i want a challenge ill play Street fighter 4 . I am not playing dragon age for competion. It's a single player game anyway. But i can somewhat understand who enjoy it.But personnaly i don't.
Do i want my character to feel more powerful? Yes maybe .That prob why i play also on a lesser difficulty.Who know. There's many reason.Trying to belittle someone because they enjoy playing a game on a lesser difficulty , it,s what i call insecuty
