Most emotional moment was for me when the tresher maw attacked the Reaper. Hope he made it. Poor thing.

Knowing me, I'll probably laugh instead, I know I laughed when the little girl in MW3 got blown up.
"Look, mommy! BIRRRRDS!!!"
*BOOM*
Then I laughed.

I thought it was stupid.

Knowing you, anything that doesn't involve a Vanguard blowing the living hell out of a husk's head is "stupid".

Just sayin'.

I also like most bars across the galaxy and Urz.

But seriously, that kid scene feels forced. I thought that showing the death of one kid on Earth is pointless and I really couldn't care less since Reapers have killed (and will kill) a lot more people. That kid is not special IMHO.

The way I see it, is the scene is supposed to demonstrate and reflect what's coming down the road. It fits with Shepard's earlier line to Anderson "...no matter how hard you try, you can't save them all."

So I thought it was rather well done for what it is. You could say it's a show-not-tell kind of thing, which I like.

It was pretty silly scene, I have to admit. And by silly I mean poorly done and served no purpose.

Dunno about your Shep, but mine knows that not everyone can be saved in war. The forced kid scene just does not work for me.

Many people use laughter to cover the uncomfortable feeling of sadness.

Except that scene wasn't only pointed at kid.

Forgot about those civilians and soldiers in shuttles?
They died too.

Reason why it's is more focused on kid is to show player that Reapers don't care who you are or what you are.
They will still kill you or worse.
And that's for entire galaxy.

That scene shows that NOBODY is safe from Reapers, while they still exist.

What about the renegade line with Anderson? "It's war. People Die!"

How does that symbolically fit in with the child scene? It doesn't, because Shepard's taken a canonization to the knee.

Of course it was forced, he was supposed to be the physical representation of how you can't save everyone.

Still doesn't mean it wasn't sad.

In emotion, The Darkness blows the Mass Effect series out of the water with just one scene, Jenny's death. The scenes involving you just watching TV together is just as good.

I liked that too. Popeye FTW.

People tend to laugh at dumb, pointless things. That's why movies like dumb and dumber exist.

On a personal level, a part of me just can't understand how some people just don't even bat an eyelid towards the poor kid. For starters, that breaks Infant Immortality:crying:

And on another note.... IT'S JUST PLAIN SAD.

Adorable kids in danger make better sad moments than adults in the same situation. I know some of you disagree, but that's is true to many people and Bioware knows it.

True, he was just another person, just another pile of flesh and bone, but I (and other people) don't see it that way.

Sure, but not me, it was just poorly done, and the kid acted ridiculous.
I didn't laugh because the kid died.

The scene could have been a lot better and less obvious at being a deliberate, manipulative attempt to get people "emotionally engaged". The whole intro is based around this random orphan and the sense of helplessness and loss, and it could've been weaved into the narrative more subtly, but it was more like being bludgeoned by the devs and them yelling "cry, damn you!".

Also, for me it was the kid's acting that killed the whole thing. I think if you're going to use a kid in a scene for something as dramatic as that, it should be great, and that kid sounded like he was just pulled into the recording booth, did one take and left. He should've been more involved in the scene, especially with that music playing. As it was, it just came off as cheesy.

I'm glad some people did cry and enjoyed the scene though. I really liked the music and the final scene of the Normandy speeding off past the ship debris. That part was fantastic.

I think it was alright. With Mass Effect's level of animating and character articulation, it was surprisingly well pulled together. Shepard doing a slow dramatic double take was a bit over the top, but overall the scene played its part well.

I liked the scenes with the kid. It was moving.

But the whole thing was emotional for me, with Reapers everywhere destroying everything. But thats just me. When I play a game, watch a movie or read a book, I find myself very deep into it.

Because we know why they did it. It is like they trying hard and fail. Trying too hard that is. It's like what they did to Hawke's Mom in DA2. Some people said it was dramatic. I thought it was stupid. If it's done well I will be sad. But I can only laugh at fail dramaturgy.

Oh I beg to differ. The camera angles and shots clearly indicated that the kid was supposed to be in the centre of attention at that time. I think it is not ok to pick a random kid and try to make it out to be a big deal when he dies. It makes it seem like the other people who died were somehow less important. Just my opinion though. It was sad obviously, but I did not like it anyway.
