I was watching the demo with the little kid, and I almost cried, the piano work was so perfectly fitting and everything was like a film I would pay to see in the cinema.

Absolutely incredible, and this is just a character we dont even know about... imagine if anything happened to our own squad.

Loving it Bioware :D

I think it was alright. With Mass Effect's level of animating and character articulation, it was surprisingly well pulled together. Shepard doing a slow dramatic double take was a bit over the top, but overall the scene played its part well.

This.

The scene could have been a lot better and less obvious at being a deliberate, manipulative attempt to get people "emotionally engaged". The whole intro is based around this random orphan and the sense of helplessness and loss, and it could've been weaved into the narrative more subtly, but it was more like being bludgeoned by the devs and them yelling "cry, damn you!".

Also, for me it was the kid's acting that killed the whole thing. I think if you're going to use a kid in a scene for something as dramatic as that, it should be great, and that kid sounded like he was just pulled into the recording booth, did one take and left. He should've been more involved in the scene, especially with that music playing. As it was, it just came off as cheesy.

I'm glad some people did cry and enjoyed the scene though. I really liked the music and the final scene of the Normandy speeding off past the ship debris. That part was fantastic.

I've convinced myself that the kid talks like that (without emotion) because he is in shock.

Yeah.

I don't understand how people get upset over games.

Tell that to the people who played Final Fantasy 7 when Aerith died lol.

I think finding a scorched teddy bear in a ruin has much more dramaturgy than what Bioware did there.

I agree it was great. It could have easy fallen into the cheesy zone but the delicacy of it coupled with the music lended it much grace and sincerity. Loved it.

Or a shadow on a wall.

Actually that would make me laugh.

I agree. It was very emotional - it showed the reality of war, that many games shy away from. And the music was perfect.

Moral of the story is that kids are stupid and shouldn't get to make life decisions. If I was Shepard I'd have my belt ready for some discipline right then.

Except that scene wasn't only pointed at kid.

Oh I beg to differ. The camera angles and shots clearly indicated that the kid was supposed to be in the centre of attention at that time. I think it is not ok to pick a random kid and try to make it out to be a big deal when he dies. It makes it seem like the other people who died were somehow less important. Just my opinion though. It was sad obviously, but I did not like it anyway.

Thanks for ignoring my point.<_<

SPOILER:The most emotional part for me was the part where the dreadnaught blows up.  You never could tell quite how powerful they were in the previous games, but seing how big and powerful it is, and then, blow up, I was just thinking about how many people must have just been killed on that ship when the massive shockwave from the explosion hit.

I was a little sad, more angry at the reapers though. That Dreadnaught didn't stand a chance "how are you suppost to fight something so powerful"

A kid dying is the most cheapest way to bring in emotion, your emotionally weak if you felt sadness, nearly cried or actually cried.

The Darkness where Jenny gets executed in front of you is cry worthy.

Hey real men cry. Only a monster would never cry. Well actualy even a monster would cry. Anyway, I prefer subtlety. And the issue with the kid in ME3 is as subtle as an elephant stampede.

Don't you dare say that. Dogs can't die. My dog will never die!

But a child melting? Nah, not sad.

It wasn't a bad scene, but the fact that my ruthless Renegade "it's war, people die" Shepard was forced to wince and turn away was disappointing.

Ah that'd take too long. There is just one show where the parents of a guy always buy a new dog because they don't want to tell their son that his dog died.
