And on another note.... IT'S JUST PLAIN SAD.

Because we know why they did it. It is like they trying hard and fail. Trying too hard that is. It's like what they did to Hawke's Mom in DA2. Some people said it was dramatic. I thought it was stupid. If it's done well I will be sad. But I can only laugh at fail dramaturgy.

I have to agree with you on Hawke's mom, but for a completely different reason. When DA2 was being promoed, Bioware did this big stance on how Family was going to be a huge part in this game.

...Then in the first hour of the demo, your sibling of your same/similar class DIES. YOU CANNOT PREVENT THIS IN ANY WAY. I thought it was sad, but okay. But then, after arc 1, YOU LOSE YOUR SECOND SIBLING AND CANNOT PREVENT THIS IN ANY WAY. Then your mom is kidnapped, decapitated and stitched onto a make do Frankestein-esque corpse. YOU CANNOT PREVENT THIS IN ANY WAY.

My point shouldn't have to be explained.

A lot of us, if not all of us, knew why they made a point with that kid. **** just got real and no one's safe. I thought it was really well done personally. Others felt it was forced and overdramatic. Whatever the feelings are, I still feel it's necessary to have there.

Man up.

Hey real men cry. Only a monster would never cry. Well actualy even a monster would cry. Anyway, I prefer subtlety. And the issue with the kid in ME3 is as subtle as an elephant stampede.

Agreed, doesn't make the person somehow weak if they cry. Crying is a good way to handle stress and help dealing with losses. But I have to say that I haven't cried in years.

Few years ago, my dog, my mom and my grandma died in 6 month's time. I didn't cry about it, I still haven't cried about it. But I do care about other people, I just handle my grief with other ways. So, it's pretty obvious that people are different and handle sittulations in different manners.

so killing little kids is funny . . . . ok walking away now . . . .

You don't kill kids in CoD.

but he finds watching little kids die funny . . . ergo little kids dying is funny

He finds watching virtual kids dying in a scene trying to force you to feel emotionally engaged in the game. To be honest, I found it kinda funny myself.

King Minos wrote...

A kid dying is the most cheapest way to bring in emotion, your emotionally weak if you felt sadness, nearly cried or actually cried.

The Darkness where Jenny gets executed in front of you is cry worthy.

No sir, that's dogs dying.

Don't you dare say that. Dogs can't die. My dog will never die!

Ever watched King of Queens?

No, what is it?

Ah that'd take too long. There is just one show where the parents of a guy always buy a new dog because they don't want to tell their son that his dog died.

I would hate to see my dog curled up in the front room not moving. Any dog that is injured will touch me.

I like to keep things in perspective and some ****** fake kid in a game ain't worth the colonel's tears. I cry for the kids who can't make it in real life. Man up.

True, but I don't think it's a completely fair comparison. The Darkness was probably one of the best examples of how character death should be handled in a game. Being amongst the best moments, I wouldn't say that really nullifies Mass Effect's emotional qualities.

I get the part about people not feeling anything, or being irritated by a forced scene, what I don't get is this.

Thing is I am quite emotional even playing a game. Not that tears run down my cheek all the time. But for example the scene at the Citadel assault when Sovereign blew up all the alliance ship was very dramatic. Just that most people see an exploding ship, and you don't get to see the crew on board etc. So I really don't need to get it spelled out what it means that people die. It just comes across like Bioware thinks they need to explain something that they don't need to explain. I don't need to see a kid die to know what happens if a Reaper rips through a ship, a building or whatever with his death beam. It felt alike drama overload and then it's hard to take it serious for me.

Watching a child and other passengers getting obliterated is the most incredible moment of your life?

Shepard: Don't worry. I can save you.
Child: You can't save me. Nobody can.
Shepard: Come on kiddo, come with me.
Child: I have to go.
Shepard: Come back here you stupid kid [grabs arm]. You're coming with me whether you like it or not.
Anderson: Shepard! We have to go. Now!
Child: Let go of my arm.
Shepard: I'm not letting your stupid ass get inside one of those unarmoured shuttles that will only get blown up by the Reapers. Was that your stupid plan. Come with me and I'll get you to safety.
Anderson: Here take this (passes a gun to the child.

Later on. The child panics when fighting husks and accidently kills Comander Shepard and Captain Anderson. Oops.:o

The Mass Effect series fails in emotion, i have not felt sadness from any game but Jennys death was the best death scene i have ever watched, Jennys theme is sweet, sad but also sinister.

Mass Effect just sucks at emotion. I still don't see how people cry over games. Then again, i have not cried in a long time, nearly did when Ash Ketchum got turned to stone in the first movie but i was 8 then.

I thought it was incredibly poorly done. Forced emotion is bad emotion. The "you can't help me," is nothing but unrealistic symbolic trite, as is the Normandy sticking around long enough for Shepard, a person who's seen people liquified, twisted into husks, blown up a hundreds of thousands, and potentially wiped out civilians and pirates alike on Torfan, to show emotion. Only thing well-done was the music, especially as the Reaper turned its attention on the kid.

If they wanted to garner a reaction and shown how helpless the fight is with the kid, this is how they should've done it:

When you first encounter husks they're climbing a wall and chasing after something. That something is the kid. He's screaming, attempting to run away, and cut off from you, and a half dozen husks have their eyes on him. Kills the husks and he escapes, heading toward the port. Don't, and they tackle him and it is implied they tear him to shreds and he screams. Later at the port, the Normandy isn't just staying for the view. We see the hatch slowly closing and Shepard glances over to the port to see others make their escape. If the kid survived we see him getting into the ship, along with many others. If not then we just get the others. The reaper turns its attention, not just on the smaller shuttles, but the Normandy. As they take off it unleashes a blast, taking them down. The hatch closes, just as the blast is reaching for the Normandy, Shepard's last sight of earth being the shuttle blowing apart. If Paragon he closes his eyes and turns his head. If renegade he frowns, turns, and walks away.

More subtlety, less hammering you over the top of your head screaming, "FEEL SAD."

So was the season finale for Season 1 of Digimon.

Always funny how people focus on the 1 child, rather than all the other people that died. The whole thing was corny. As soon as that kid ran i thought "He'll be dead soon in some attempt at an emotional scene."

The music was fantastic yes, but the kid
eh i was like oh well one down.millions more that "could be saved" time to drink a bottle of jack and kill some stuff, also far as "character reaction/development" is was nice to see/know a child die and view shepards reaction made it seem like shep finally had to get the ball rollin

I think some people are missing the point of that scene. I don't think it's about that one kid, not really. He is supposed to represent everyone on Earth, all the children, civilians and helpless people in general you are leaving behind.

Remember Mordin's talk about his nephew? "Can't anthropomorphize galaxy"
That's the point of that scene. Establishing that there are people, real people and individuals behind those diminishing numbers, sons, daughters and loved ones you are leaving behind at reaper's mercy.
