I have a problem in my Mass Effect 2 that the 7.1 surround sound refuses to work, and only runs in 5.1. The side speakers have no noise coming from them at all. Switching my computer to 5.1 from 7.1 causes sound to come from the side speakers in game.
Running speaker and noise tests on Windows shows that all 7.1 speakers are working perfectly, and the speakers are working fine for TV/PS3 so it's deifnetely not a receiver problem or... by the looks of it a Windows problem but something in game.
This isn't just limited to Mass Effect 2, but is in all Source games (TF2, HL2, Portal etc) and Civ V, and I'm sure many others if I tested them. Weirdly enough, Mass Effect 1, the most notorious game in the world for sound problems runs in 7.1 fine.
I have an Auzentech X-Fi Hometheatre HD running 7.1 speakers through one HDMI cable. To Windows I am running 7.1 (Speakers) not some special HDMI, or Dolby Digital option or anything. Running Windows 7 and using an ATI graphics card if that helps. All other sound devices have been disabled besides the one I am using. All unneccasry sound options have also been shut off in the Creative control panel, such as the stereo expander...
Any input on this problem would be much appreciated.
