ME3 combines the best elements of ME1's storytelling and customization with ME2's better characerization and combat.
This exactly. ME1 storytelling+ME2 Combat+combo of both games' customization and characterization= ME3 Finale Full of Win.

The problem with them is that they can't get over their ME 1 nostaliga and they are so blinded by it they never gave ME 2 a chance. Since they were so mad that ME 2 wasn't ME 1 2.0 they label anyone that loves ME 2 as "CoD gamer or shooter fan" even if the person that loves ME 2 was a big fan of ME 1 as well.
BTW there is nothing wrong with being a CoD or shooter fan.
I didn't play ME1 till January 2011, and played ME2 immediately after with no break.
I fail to see how nostalgia is "clouding" my argument

On shooters, I would definitely argue that Halo's plot is good. It's just that most of the good stuff is buried in the novels and just sort of slapped onto the game.
You could say the same thing about the Gears of War books but noone ever seems to remember that

I won't say otherwise until I see the game and convinced of the opposite, which is unlikely. ME2 had countless flaws, ME1 had countless flaws, ME3 will have countless flaws, but it will be very, very convincing. At least I hope so.

For me, story is always my top priority. So, regardless of gameplay and all that, ME3 will most likely be a success for me personally due to the conclusion of this story, which I've been waiting for the past few years.
From playing the demo, I can see that ME3 will be very cinematic, and that makes me happy... my main hope for the game is that at the end of it, I'll say to myself... "Gee willerkers bd, that was fcuking EPIC!" And then proceed to load my next Shepard.
Not to spoil you, but if you're hoping for a good, happy and overall "Perfect" ending, you'll be very disappointed.

Well thats actually the problem. If you play ME2 right after ME1, you'll be so thrown off by how different it is( Because it is EXTREMELY different, in a lot of ways). I played ME2 after not playing ME1 for many months, forgetting how the gameplay felt, and it had a more positive effect.

I played them back to back my first time through and fell in love with ME2's simplefied system almost immediately.

Depends in what context you mean "perfect"; I don't know about aridor, but I'm not looking for a fairy tale happy ending, that's not going to happen anyway since millions of lives have already been lost, but I do want to come away from the game knowing I did the best I could, I just hope there is no button to shut down all reapers, that would really ruin it.Not to spoil you, but if you're hoping for a good, happy and overall "Perfect" ending, you'll be very disappointed.

Then your standards are low enough to be pleased with anything Bioware ****s on a disc, don't worry.
ME 2 is the one of the best video games out there. You being a hater and hating it doesn't make it a bad game. I guess you were blind to all of the GOTY awards it got, or the meta critic score it got.
ME2 is an abysmal faliure in many ways. It?s also great in other ways.
A good game, but the best? Lol! Not even CLOSE.
Marketing having influences ppl and the ignorant masses not paying attention is not my problem.

For me it was the best game of this console generation. It has the most playtroughs out of all my games on 360. But we all have our own tastes.
But it more than earned those GOTY awards it got.

Personally, shooters and RPGs are my two favorite genres, so Mass Effect is one of my all-time favorite series. I can see both sides of the argument - some people prefer a focus on a solid storyline while others put more emphasis on graphics, smooth gameplay, and fast-paced action gameplay. I think Mass Effect combines these two genres about as well as you could hope for. I do agree that ME1 was focused more on RPG elements while ME2 was focused on shooter/action elements.
From what I have heard so far, it sounds like ME3 is going to be more of a compromise between these two genres, which is exactly what I was hoping for. Bottom line is ,I think this forum needs to be a lot less contentious. People need to learn to respect the opinions of others and recognize that everyone's opinion is just as valid as their own. It really is stupid to argue over personal preference.
I think this forum is filled with intelligent people and informed gamers. Unfortunately some people are so contentious about their opinions it gets silly sometimes - some people just need to lighten up! We are here to discuss a shared hobby! It's a video game - no need to get so offensive and angry - they idea is that it's something that you enjoy, something that relaxes you! Coming into this forum you'd think we were debating politics or religion! Damn! Mass Effect is so much more interesting haha!

Call of Duty adds nothing new and each game gets multiple awards.
So what you're saying is...although it may be a financial success, and although it might get great reviews, it still might not be a success?
What is success in your eyes, something that only you like?
A game like Call of Duty does not deserve the rewards or reviews it gets.
Mass Effect isn't CoD.
Not by a longshot.

I don't think that ME1 had better gameplay, ME2 really improved gameplay in many ways, especially for Biotics. But that doesn't change that it was sloppily written at best. ME1 I can get so enthralled that I'll literally marathon play it continuously for 2-3 days and beat a playthrough. It takes me a month of maybe an hour or two a day to get through an ME2 playthrough because of how dull and messy the writing is.
