So, what happened to the trial?

Mass Effect 3 was supposed to begin with Shepard on trial for his actions in Arrival.  There are multiple interviews or news stories that claim that the invasion begins in the middle of Shepards trial.  But here, he just walks over to the guys and says 'we fight or we die." and they show up.  Nothing close to a trial.

So was it just cut from the demo, or the game entirely?

A few links to back this up:
"The final ‘Story Demo’ was from the beginning of the game, with Shepard having apparently been summoned to Earth to stand trial"

"Mass Effect 3 will begin immediately following the events of "Arrival". Commander Shepard will face trial and during the hearing, the Reaper invasion will begin."

"Piggybacking off of the final DLC available for Mass Effect 2, Arrival, Mass Effect 3 begins with Commander Shepard on trial. In the middle of it, the Reapers show up and start their attack on Earth."

"The story starts a few months after the end of Mass Effect 2. Mass Effect 3 opens with Commander Shepard on trial on Earth"

There are many more links, here are a few of the more prominent ones.

I remember one of the devs tweeting that it was removed. Don't quote me on it though, as I don't remember who specifically, but I remember reading it on twitter.

Do you mean Mac Walters? I think its on the thread lack of confirmation. But I still kinda have my hopes up as the tweet was made way back in september.

I've only heard rumour that it's been removed, but if it has then it sucks, I'd assumed there were characters from ME2 that will show up at the trial to either defend or accuse you, that would have been great.

I would be very disappointed if it was removed.

I was expecting something like

Shepard: "THE REAPERS WERE COMING. I HAD TO DO IT!

Judge: "Ah yes, "Reapers...."

*Then the reapers come and screw up everyones day*

:D

Instead, everyone now believes the reapers are real right from the beggining.
Disapointed :( .

Lol, thanks! I knew I remembered it, had a feeling it was Walters but didn't want to say without being sure who.

It not really the exclusion of the trail the would hurt me is that such a beginning would be good for a story. Even if its a sequel IMO every sequel needs to have some dialog or event to remind or introduce what has happened in the trilogy so far.

If it's out, it makes less sense why Shepard went to Earth and why James Vega is there. I wondered, when I saw that it didn't really seem like much of a trial in the demo. But I have confidence in Bioware that they'll figure out a way for it to make sense.

I think the trial would have been pretty interesting... Shame.

Why is it disappointing? Most probably it was tried over and over but out just didn't flow. So it was canned. People are stressing too much over half known details when its the entirety of the game that you should worry. It will be great overalll, im sure.

And whats about all the hatred towards the me2 intro im seeing in the forums? If you hate me2 intro no way you will enjoy this one

And a place to re-inforce your characters ideals or change them, for example I might play a paragon but as things unfold in court I get angry and move toward renegade, or a renegade moves toward paragon for redemption, or both stand their ground.

No. Now it makes absolutely no sense at all unless explained differently. I guess they'll just go with "it happened offscreen, before the game begins".

Cool, thanks HM. The lack of explanation for him knowing Vega, being grounded on Earth, etc is really noticeable.

There's hate for it? I thought that was a pretty epic intro. It starts off the game with the Normandy getting destroyed and Shepard dying. It leaves you with a "OK, what is Bioware gonna do NOW?" feeling, and it's cool to see what happens with that.

I just feel like the internet in general just likes to whine.

Exactly. Thanks for reinforcing my point. Its quite obvious this demo isn't showing everything. Heck I even watched the leaked demo and even Anderson mentions Arrival.

"Mass Effect 3 will start with a trial!"
some time after
"Well we decided that it will start right after the trial so our marketing can finally stop making any sense as it does with every game we make now a days".

To be fair, that does say most, rather than all /clutching at straws.
