Hasn't this already been answered by Chris?

The information was shoddy at best.  What did you honestly expect?

Not to mention about 33.34% of the time Chris is wrong and another 33.34% of the time he's just trolling us.

I take everything he says with a bowl of salt.

I reserve that for the entire ME Bioware team.

I reserve that for any development team.

I reserve that for humans.

I reserve that for mortals.

I reserve that for the reserves

I haven't read the entire thread, but does anyone have an idea whether the decision generator at the beginning is a button press just like the Ashley/Kaidan choice in the demo? I thought it would be a bit more interactive.

Ok, I know I'm a tool of the Man and all, but how so?

If you are a new player (haven't played ME1 or ME2) you learn who Shepard is, why he's on earth, what the Reaper threat is, and then the story begins.

If you are a continuing player (have played either or both of the previous games) you already know the plot and character development because you helped form it with your previous play throughs and the story picks up after ME2.

I'm sorry you're disappointed, but I'm not completely sure why?

Hey Chris. I think more people were expecting to take Shepherd through the trial, and the wording when discussing the opening of ME3 heavily suggested this would be the case. You(BioWare) have said a lot about wanting Shepard to grow as a character and having to go through Shepard's trial and having her defend herself is exactly the type of content suited to building the character. Having it all take place offscreen can lessen it, which I think is a reasonable concern. Plus it adds a layer of impact for when the war kicks off that you won't get through great visuals or combat choreography.

The fact that you just expanded on what I said made my sarcasm sense tingle. But okay.

Sorry for being a stupid idiot, but do Anderson/anyone else actually mention the reason Shepard in on earth in the demo? All they say is that he's been grounded, nothing about batarians or Cerberus. I must have missed it.

Interestingly, he did mention it in the leaked beta demo. Anderson says "When you blew up the batarian relay hundreds of thousands of batarians died.". In the finished demo, they seem to have changed this line to "The sh*t you've done, any other soldier would have been tried, court martialed, and discharged.".

This sentence from Anderson bothers me. What does he mean with "The sh*t you have done"? The destruction of the relais was necessary to delay the Reaper arrival. Anderson should know that.

Also all those fleet admirals at the beginning were in complete denial about the reaper threat? No one except Shepard+Cerberus did anything to prepare for the Reaper attack the last 2 years? Good bye earth then :pinched:

Yeah, the trial thing is a bit weird since... (almost?) every BioWare game has a trial (normal or "find the guilty"). :P

OMG what a major gripe! Pre-order cancelled!<_<

Even without the comics the game will have an explanation. It's called storytelling. It doesn't have to hold a persons hand. There's hardly anything confusing going on here.

No one's confused. But it's absurd to "rely" on other types of media to tell part of a game. If it's in the game, then fine, no biggie. If it's not, then just another little thing that ME3 got wrong.

Again, no biggie.

He'll be introduced properly in the game. All of the characters will be, including the old favourites.

With all of the whingeing I've read about Bioware's desire to make the game accessible to new players being "hand-holding" it's somewhat amusing to read people complaining that as experienced players their hands aren't being held quite enough.

You blow up a whole system. Most of the galaxy does not believe in the reaper threat so yeah they want to know why you did that.

Anderson will mention that... if you're not a new player.

Apologies if this has already been posted (this is one long thread) but assuming that Shepard in on Earth because he (SPOILER) and is being held accounted for it, then how did the reapers get to Earth so quick (as I thought the thingys helped everything travel through the galaxy)

Sorry If this needs to be deleted or edited or whatever its fine, i dont want to give away spoilers

Reapers arrived in the Galaxy.  The Timer wasn't for show, it was the time it would take them to reach the system from FTL travel.  This is the reason why the Batarians went dark, because the Reapers sacked them by the time the game happened.  Hence, the Batarian husk analogues.

Mass Effect 3 starts (roughly) 6 months after the end of Mass Effect 2. It starts with the end of the trial of Commander Shepard during which the Reapers first arrive on earth. This is the bit that starts the game and the demo.

Having played the demo, i'm extremely disappointed to hear
that is the entire opening. Whilst it's good, there's is absolutely NOTHING in
the way of a trial as previously mentioned. Shepard is in detention, Vega and
Anderson come and retrieve him to talk to the council. Heck, even Anderson's
dialogue with Shepard suggests that a trial has already taken place off screen! If I were a new player, I would be pretty confused by the opening.

Whilst i'm ridiculously hyped for the game and I still think
it's going to be possibly one of the greatest gaming experiences ever, this was
a massive disappointment. I really wanted to see a trial where you could defend
your actions in character.

Hey, don't worry people. I'm sure if enough of us ask for it, BioWare will release an optional, paid DLC featuring a more substantial and less rushed intro.

So... for just $10 or so, we can get the introduction the game SHOULD have had from the beginning (no pun intended...)

I read about half this thread before realizing the arguments were going around in circles, I'll take an individual perspective here, I'm sorely disappointed the trial has been removed, I'm still getting the CE because I've very much looked forward to this game. but it will be the last, it's not just because the trial has been removed from this game, it's because being told one thing and then getting something else has become an all too recurring theme in the gaming industry, I look at it this way, if marketing and/or devs do not know for sure something is going to be in, shut up until you know for certain, this is a trust issue, and if I cannot trust you stick to your word then I can no longer hand over my cash to you.
