So, what happened to the trial?

@Oricard - Shepard had to have already had the trial/hearing, that's the only way he had the command of the Normandy taken from him, stripped of his rank and confined. Those things can't all be done without one.

This is what I'm hoping for, and why I think the lack of trial, while annoying, isn't the end of the world.
Still, would have been nice to have it as well ..
I think that's the other aspect that's kinda bothering me. Given the uhh "tension" between Shepard and the VS, who is also a love interest in my case, I was actually looking forward to playing out the first time they would meet up since Horizon.

Well, there's that too. I hope there's varied reactions based on your relationship with the VS at least, in the full game.

And really were the older titles that good....NWN's was a huge step back from Baldur's Gate (and easily bested by its sequel), Jade Empire had a flawed combat system, KOTOR's characters were pretty much one dimensional compared to newer Bioware characters.
Not by a long shot.
Heh...funny...I too was thinking just the opposite...I think their new companions are horrendus compared to old ones...opinions are beautiful aren't they? Also...I still think Jade Empire was by far their strongest game...so ha.

@Il Divo - Don't both arguing/talking/discussing with txgoldrush, it will be a complete waste of time. tx unalterably believes that his position is perfect and unassailable and it hasn't changed an iota from how he attacks people on the DA2 forums who are critical of DA2.

It's fairly obvious..."any other soldier would have been tried, court marsheld and discharged." We was NOT put on trial....for any reason at all.

I'll just leave this hereOricard wrote...
He was actually waiting to be put on trial until Earth's colonies started going dark. After that you have to pretty much assume that the trial was off until answers were found. Then the repears crash the party. No trial for reason of extinction event.

Mass Effect 3 starts (roughly) 6 months after the end of Mass Effect 2. It starts with the end of the trial of Commander Shepard during which the Reapers first arrive on earth. This is the bit that starts the game and the demo.

Also...wth is with everyone suddenly believeing everything Shepard has ever told them? They have been in complete denail this entire time and now they suddenly believe him? Lame...just another thing the intro screwed up imo.
Also...something Anderson says is rather troubleing..." Why haven't we heard from Admiral Hackett?" hmm...eaither dead already or....

Shepard could have been relieved of command of the Normandy at any time. He could have been imprisoned before a court martial without actually coming to trial. But IIRC you can't strip an officer of his rank without a court-martial, assuming the Alliance still does things the way we do.

As long as the devs word on dialogue choice being present in the final version of the intro holds true then i'll cope without a full blown trial.
game as a whole NOT intro - intro is what it is...the other thing is the amount of autodialague in general in the demo - hard to believe Bioware choose the sequences that completely misrepresent the amount of autodialogue in the complete product.

Please point me to the tweet/comment that says intro auto-dialogue in intro is in final game because yesterdays tweets suggest the opposite.

Remember when Riccitiello came out and said they were shooting for a 'wider market opportunity'? They found it, and guess what? You're not it.
Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING about this game has been designed with one purpose in mind: sell as many copies as humanely possible. Everything else is tangential. Welcome to hell.

If you're disappointed now in things like railroaded dialogue/level design, crappy dialogue, the missing trial, and nonsensical plot points then I've got some bad news.

I agree. What I don't understand is that everything else in Society is becoming more complex and yet, game developers are stuck on the notion that things need to be simplified. When you factor in the average age of a gamer is somewhere in the mid 30's it makes even less sense. I would also add that Bioware clearly didn't want a RPG with a Space Opera feel to it. They wanted a Shooter with a little bit deeper story than found in other SciFi shooters.
