So, what happened to the trial?

@Il Divo - Don't both arguing/talking/discussing with txgoldrush, it will be a complete waste of time. tx unalterably believes that his position is perfect and unassailable and it hasn't changed an iota from how he attacks people on the DA2 forums who are critical of DA2.
@Oricard - Shepard had to have already had the trial/hearing, that's the only way he had the command of the Normandy taken from him, stripped of his rank and confined. Those things can't all be done without one.
Because hating on DAII is the favorite pastime of BSN...its not a great game and a very flawed one, but the idiocy on that forum and the clinging on to the old ways is moronic. And there are elements of the game that Bioware does nail, and fans just do not see it.
BSN has become a cesspool of whiners the last few years.

That’s to bad Bioware didn’t include a trial in ME3, the murder trial in NWN2 was one of my favorite moments in the game.

Looking at the big beta leak...as for the trail.....GOOD RIDDANCE.
Basically the trial of Shepard became a defense hearing. And really the trial makes the human leadership look beyond stupid as they continue to deny the Reapers before they are "reaped". The new version actually instead of making the human leadership completely idiotic, makes them naturally scared, even Shep has a bit if fear in this scene. Even he doesn't know how to fight the Reapers.
I am going to say, THANK YOU BIOWARE.

But surely they could have just given a trial to people who imported a character and used the crappy defense hearing for new players

It's sad to see this thread die, as I felt that the discussions contain herein were some of the best on BSN. The discourse on the nature of roleplaying, what constitutes good cinematic pacing, and the penchant for fans to have pre-conceived notions and obtainable expectations for a finished product were, for the most part, level-headed and extremely interesting. Understanding Bioware to be the cerebral company that they are, I want to believe that they had these very same conversations internally, and therefore, was hoping that at some point Chris or one of the devs would comment on why they decided to move away from the trial in the end.
yea, I actually tried to keep up with this thread while I was home (I have classes in the evenings) to see if anyone would answer the questions being asked here. Chris came in and said he didn't understand why people were disappointed or something earlier on then nothing since. I would like someone to say something also, but I guess that is too much to ask for. There were some very good arguments here though and I agree with a lot of them.

and so you want humans to look like complete idiots and keep denying the Reapers exist? That plot thread has worn out its welcome and would have been highly redundant.
All the trial was was Shep and Anderson trading barbs and accusations against the committee, there was no real development.

Well this topic died horribly.
It never really died out as such, we had about 20-30 pages of being insulted and attacked for having shown disappointment in lack of trial and the benefit we saw it could of had to the RPG element of the game. Plus expressing concern over lack of dialogue and heavy implementation of (out of character) dialogue imposed upon our Shepard in the demo.
But reason it has gone more quiet is because we have all for the most part expressed our concerns, defended them successfully against trolls and now have a feedback thread stickied on front page asking for reviews and feedback which is what original intention of this thread was. In that sense it is more productive now to post in a stickied thread our reviews rather than a thread that will constantly disappear off the front page.
Which is what I have done hence why I have been so quiet on this thread recently. As shown by my sig which links to the basic overall feedback I gave in this thread but now located in the stickied review thread created by Chris.

They already look like idiots from the demo. They could not look more idiotic if they tried.
"Wahhh Reapers are coming soon... Oh wait they already here... Oh shucks they not just already here they already just strolled past our defenses... Oh crappy doodle doo they right outside our window... SHEPARD! We are incompetent! Tell us what to do after we took away your ship, your command and all your authority!"
*Do'h, dead already*
Was going to use troll spray on you, then decided your just not worth it.

If so, that's quite disappointing. I was looking forward to discovering the consequences of your choices during arrival.
I presume if they pulled it this late in dev then it would mean they have already done the scene and dialogue, etc. so...
Hey BW, since you are probably already shipping the copies to warehouses, why not take that content you already made, and give us some free DLC for those of us that spent a fair amount of cash on "Arrival" with the promise that it would result in a trial and would affect how the trial proceeded?

So it is 100% confirmed that the trial has been removed from the game? Would look back but 57 pages is a lot to surf through when it's mostly arguing.
We were told explictely when this thread started that the intro in the demo is that same as the full game.

Chris confirmed that the start of the demo is the start of the actual game. I also think the trial will be sold to us at a later date as (optional content) DLC. Seems like something Bioware would do these days and like an idiot I would end up buying because I wanted to experience it in first place as to me it would of added to the role playing quality of the title even though it should of been in the game (imho) on the RPG mode to begin with.

It's just going to make a small change in the dialogue. Anderson will mentioned Arrival more clearly, as he did in the leaked beta.

Come to think of it, if bioware wanted to make the game more accessible to newcomers the trial could just have been left in for importing players.

What? Effectively meaning that we shouldn't buy the game at launch, but to wait until we can get the better intro?

It's not EA or Bioware that's at fault for this push to DLC, it's the industry, they are just capitalizing on modern standards. Now with the rumor that Microsoft will make it impossible to play used games on their next console, and EA's new policy of including activation codes with new game, things are taking a turn for the worse.
I do feel we will certainly have another "crash" of the gaming industry if this exploitation continues. Fans will get fed up at one point or another. Luckily for me Mass Effect is the only series besides the ES series that I'm into enough to buy DLC for. Certainly haven't spent a dime on new maps for Black Ops when the old ones worked just fine.

Bethesda is the one studio who seems to have the right idea. Their development and publishing is all done in house with what Todd Howard described as "no involvement from Zenimax, much like our other games." So the only people they really have to answer to are themselves and their fans, not the publisher funding their foray. When you buy an Elder Scrolls or Fallout game, you get a massive world and it is complete. Any DLC afterwords is not at all required to get full enjoyment out of the game, and according to recent interviews, they have no intention of charging for any-small scale DLC for Skyrim like they did for Oblivion (I still shudder at 3 dollars for horse armor) meaning all DLC that isn't free will be basically a massive expansion pack, which is a return to what gaming used to be like.
I love BW and I'll continue to support them as long as they continue to make great games without taking advantage of their fans, but I really hope their Dev team considers splitting from EA and starting up their own publishing studio, given the amazing games they make, I'm sure they wouldn't have too much of a problem getting up and running with fan support, though I suppose it would mean they'd no longer have the rights to the Mass Effect franchise which wouldn't be good; I wouldn't trust anyone else to work on the amazing universe they've created.
